Here's a little conclusion to the story. I know I probably didn't have to write it, but I like to provide a little closure to wrap the whole thing up sometimes. I hope you enjoy it!
After Deborah Part Eight Rated: PG MacGyver, Nikki, and Pete were all gathered in Pete’s office for a debriefing. MacGyver’s finger had been stitched and was swathed in bandages. He sat on the edge of Pete’s desk, examining the bandage for a moment. He then looked up at both Nikki and Pete. “So, how did you know where to find me?” He asked. Nikki exchanged glances with Pete and bit her lower lip. “It was Anna,” she said. “She…told me, in secret.” “Anna?” MacGyver asked. “After I told her about your situation with Deborah, she wanted to open up to me. She was scared, Mac. She didn’t want the same thing to happen to you again and have it be her fault.” MacGyver lowered his head and pinched the bridge of his nose with his healthy fingers. “And Li killed her,” he said sadly. “That’s true, but the point is she saved your life, MacGyver,” Nikki said. “She finally told you and us the truth. If she hadn’t done those things, you might not be here right now.” “Let’s not forget that without her information, Li might still be out there, trying to sell his bombs,” Pete said. “She made the ultimate sacrifice, Mac,” Nikki said, gently placing her hand on his shoulder. MacGyver looked up at both of them. “Still, there could have been something I could have done to help her,” he said. “I didn’t want to listen to her. I was so angry over being used again that I…” his voice trailed away. Pete stood and faced him. “You did the best you could,” he said. “Anna made her choice. She redeemed herself in the end, but it was just too late. There was nothing you could do. Now, why don’t you go home and get some rest?” “I’ll drive you home,” Nikki said. MacGyver looked at her with the eyes she had unfortunately come to know well the past few months—dark and sad. “All right,” he said quietly. As they left the building, Nikki wrapped her arm around his waist, partly as a gesture of friendship and partly as if she was trying to protect him. Even though she despised him at times, a part of her wished their relationship could evolve into something more than strictly professional. He was a good man. She had seen how much he cared about her late brother and how much he cared about people in general. Yet, he never gave himself enough credit. She felt he deserved much more. “MacGyver, I know these past few weeks have been tough on you,” she said. “I’m really sorry. I…I don’t know what else to say.” “It’ll be fine,” MacGyver said. “You were right, you know.” Nikki looked up at him. “About what?” She asked. “Maybe it is time I open up more to women. I thought Anna would turn out just as badly as Deborah did, but she showed me that it’s never too late to trust someone, that there’s a chance for forgiveness and change.” “That’s a good thought, MacGyver.” “I guess it’s as Pete said…without her providing the intelligence and without you coming to my rescue, things could have turned out much differently.” “Ah, MacGyver I didn’t do that much,” Nikki said. “You were the one we found climbing around the ventilation shafts without your pants on.” She grinned and winked at him. She separated herself from him and began walking toward her car, glancing back playfully at him occasionally.
MacGyver stopped and watched her, shaking his head. “There’s a perfectly good explanation for that, I’ll have you know,” he said, grinning.
