Okay guys, here is the conclusion to this story. I have another one in the works coming soon, so be patient! For now, enjoy the ending of this one! smile.gif

Memories of Life and Death Part Six
Rated: PG

Ellen’s humming echoed and followed MacGyver to the present. It lingered eerily in the cemetery, floating gently in the breeze and then fading. He looked around, wondering if some her spirit remained or if it was just a product of his memories. Shaking his head after seeing nothing, he reminded himself that it was useless to go searching for ghosts. Still, it didn’t explain his experience while in a coma. He supposed nothing ever would. Footsteps crunched on the ground behind him, and MacGyver slowly turned, half expecting to see the specter of Harry standing there. Instead, it was Pete.

“I thought I’d find you here,” he said, placing his hand on MacGyver’s back in support. “How are you feeling?”

MacGyver smiled slightly. “Fine, I think,” he said. “Thanks, Pete.”

Pete stared at the gathering of MacGyver’s relatives buried in the cemetery; Harry’s being the most recent. A shudder ran through him when he thought he’d see MacGyver’s name on one of them. He still couldn’t get over how close his friend had come to dying. All it would have taken was one small change of fate, and he would have been buried there, too. Nothing was certain when MacGyver fought for his life, the poison given to him by Hakim’s security man and thief of the Sun Boat to accelerate his death strong and almost unbeatable, but then again, Pete knew, it was MacGyver, surviving the odds as usual. He considered his friend one of the most fortunate, always cheating death. He looked at MacGyver, glad to find him looking so healthy after lying in a coma, pale and fragile. Color had returned to his skin, and his lively brown eyes sparkled with intelligence and curiosity. Pete marveled at how calm he seemed after his coma. He didn’t seem sad standing there in the cemetery among his relatives. Instead, he looked pensive and reflective, a wise smile on his face. It seemed his friend had matured in his outlook on life, and it impressed him.

“I still don’t understand what I saw when I was in a coma,” MacGyver said, looking at Pete. “It all seemed so real. I just…how do I know if it was or not?”

Pete shrugged. “I don’t think there ever will be a way to know,” he said. “I guess it just depends on what you believe.”

“That’s just the thing, Pete,” MacGyver said. “You know me. I don’t believe in the supernatural, and I’ve never been very spiritual. I believe in things I can explain, and this I just can’t.”

Pete smiled an almost fatherly smile. “Some things you can’t explain,” he said.

“I know, but I want to. I want to know what happened. I want to know if my mother actually forgives me or not.”

“I’m sure she does. Mac, you can’t drag around your guilt like a punishment for the rest of your life. You’ve been given a second chance. It’s time to move on with the rest of your life.”

MacGyver looked down at his mother’s and Harry’s gravestones. “Maybe you’re right, Pete,” he said. Even if he had missed their funerals, he was paying tribute to them now.

“Also, I think you need to leave a little room to accept those things that are unexplained,” Pete said. “There are some things science just can’t touch.”

In the distance, MacGyver saw an apparition appearing. A transparent, fog-like substance materialized into a human form, and as the features became more defined, he noticed that it was Harry. Not believing what he was seeing, he stared at it for awhile. Harry smiled and nodded at him, tipping his hat at him. Then slowly, he disappeared again, evaporating behind a massive tree, leaving his life yet again yet showing him that he would be around if he needed him.

“What is it, Mac?” Pete asked, watching him stare. “What’s wrong?”

“Did you just see that?” MacGyver asked, still looking in the direction where Harry had been.

Pete looked in the direction where MacGyver was staring. “See what?” He asked.

MacGyver smiled and shook his head. “Nothing, Pete,” he said.

Pretty short conclusion, but great story though.

I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver.
Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you.
It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

Yeah, I know it's short. Somehow, it felt right for this story, though. There will be more stories on the way soon! smile.gif

Talk about capturing your audience... Wow!

Wonderful, wonderful ending. I absolutely loved this story. Seeing Mac as a young man, and then tying it in with Passages at the end was brilliant storytelling!

Thank you!

Very nice... I like how you've taken the idea and continued it. I always felt that Passages was sort of unfinished... Mac never really had closure when Harry died (or with his mother - in GX-1 - for that matter), so your ending is a nice touch.

That which has been established will endure even with time and at a distance.

I can't tell you anything about what happens after the cameras go off, mostly because I'm usually unconscious by then.
