It was nearly midnight when Mac and Stacey came home to the houseboat. There was a hint of coolness in the air, a sign that summer was almost over. They stopped for a moment on the dock to look out over the ocean. The water was completely calm, and a full moon hung in the sky, sending its light over everything. What a difference, thought Stacey, from the night I first stumbled onto this place. Talk about seeing things in a different light. It’s funny how even the most desperate situations have a way of working themselves out, especially when you run into people this good. They walked in, and Stacey looked up at MacGyver.
“Good thing tomorrow’s Saturday, so neither of us has to work. It’s going to take me awhile to get to sleep, after all the excitement tonight.”
“Yeah, tell me about it.” Her father yawned. “I have a few projects planned for tomorrow, but the evening is pretty much open. We might go over and join the pickup street hockey game in the park, if you want.”
“Sounds like fun. I always liked hockey, even as a kid. I’m not that great, but I just play for the heck of it.”
“You know, Stacey, UCLA has registration soon for fall classes. If you like, you could sign up for a class or two, get back into the swing of things before you try to go back full time.” Stacey had expressed interest in getting a sociology degree, then continuing to work for the Phoenix Foundation.
“Yeah, I know. I’ve been thinking about that, and I think I might try taking one class. That’s about all I can handle right now… I’ve been out of school so long, I’ve almost forgotten how to go about it.”
“Well, you can call them on Monday and request a catalog and application. Also,” he added with a sly smile, “I’m going to talk to Pete and see about getting you a scholarship.”
“Dad, you and Pete have been so good to me,” Stacey’s voice had a slight catch in it. “Do you remember that day you took me to the safehouse?”
“Sure. Why?”
“I remember you saying to me, ‘For all the trouble this is causing, I’m darned glad the houseboat you ended up on was mine.’” She hugged him. “I’m glad, too.”
For a long time, MacGyver stood holding his daughter, tears running down his face. Finally, he released her, and the two of them headed off to bed, to awaken the next morning to the rest of whatever their lives held in store.

I haven't read all of this yet, but I put it in Word doc to read this later on my PDA... it's a bit long to read in one sitting.

It looks Goo-ood! biggrin.gif
