Chapter 12: A Quick Getaway

Jack hefted Bruce over to the idle chopper. He flung open the hatch and set his foot on the door frame. Bruce carefully crawled into the cockpit. Jack hopped in and helped him into the side seat. He buckled him in and sat down himself.

Jack clicked the belt into position and he reached for the controls. He licked his lips, realizing that he really didn’t know how to fly a chopper.

”Just like flying a plane, right?” he asked to the battered prisoner.

His beleaguered stare didn’t provide Jack the answer he wanted. Jack sighed and went to work.

He grasped a joystick and pulled back. The helicopter started beating, slowly lifting into the air. Jack laughed in his accomplishment.

His laughter, however, was interrupted by the soldiers flooding back into the compound.

Jack’s face went blank and he turned the stick. The chopper swiveled, the spinning tail blade turning around.

Suddenly, a screeching halt sounded. Jack kept turning. He lifted off the site, turning around. He realized that he lopped off the top floor of a crumbling structure.

Bricks showered on the men, halting their “ten-gun salute.” Jack spun the chopper back around, realizing that this spinning was purely accidental.

He quietly slipped back out. Soon, he found himself back at the controls of the helicopter. He hovered above the dirt landing strip. In circular patterns, dust flew away beneath him. Jack gripped the controls tight.

Hang on, buddy! I’m comin’ to get you! He thought. Jack didn’t realize how literal his thoughts were…

The tension keeps building up.

I'll give you a nifty 5 for keeping me interested in the story. And reading it is a breeze! Easy to follow for trouble-makers like myself. Keep the good work!
