The Troubleshooter Blues

I'm a simple man, wearin' flannel an' jeans
A simple man, yeah, not much more to me
But when there's trouble, I just gotta come see

I'm not a man who's got a lotta bucks
No fancy car, don't like to wear a tux
Sometimes, just being me, it kinda sucks...

I get shot at a lot, oh yeah! I hate that part!
Get in a lot of fights, oh, that I don't start!
Mama sez findin' trouble is my art!

Can't help myself, no, can't stay out of it
Can't keep to myself and just watch and sit
Once the fire is set or the fuse is lit...

So what's the official format for a "blues" sonnet anyway? That's a new one on me.

And how are you supposed to see to read when you're wearing sunglasses indoors?

According to Primula, our poetry professor (informal) this is how it goes:

A Blues Sonnet is fourteen lines consisting of four blues stanzas (the triplet rhymed lines we've already practiced)

It is written in iambic pentameter (10 beats per line, alternating stressed and unstressed syllables.)

It ends with a heroic couplet.(2 lines, again 10 syllables each)

There is a volta after the last triplet - this means in the last two lines there is a shift in the direction or thought that the rest of the sonnet was pursuing.


The pattern would therefore be something like:

AAa
BBb
CCc
DDd
ee

And you even managed to make the final couplet 'heroic' on two different levels, with an extra layer of pun involving the volta (for the truly bent minds) . . . accomplishing at least two nested levels of wordplay. My grandmother would be either proud or envious.

Actually, my grandmother would probably write a risqué limerick in either French or Latin, just to show off, and because Mac provides that kind of inspiration.
