The owners of the houseboat originally used to film the MacGyver TV show say they have contacted Raffaella Productions, the company producing the new MacGyver movie, with an offer to use their houseboat once again as MacGyver’s home in the upcoming movie.

“We read about it in the paper and phoned California right away.” They said of hearing the news of the upcoming movie.

The plan to make the MacGyver movie was announced earlier this week by Raffaella Productions in conjunction with New Line Cinema. There’s currently no script or writers associated with the movie, so whether they will need the houseboat or not is unknown at this time, but the offer will be there if they do.

The houseboat was used as MacGyver’s home during the 4 years (season 3-6) the show was filmed in Vancouver Canada, and is still one of the more associated icons of the show. The boat was moored in the Bute Marina at Coal Harbour and subsequently sold and moved as redevelopment of the waterfront area began and production of the show moved back to Los Angeles. Since those days the house has undergone extensive internal renovations and an new paint job externally.

According to FAQs, "In episode 127 – The Hood, we hear that MacGyver’s houseboat burnt down in a fire, and this is the reason he moved into the loft apartment."

If the houseboat is used in the movie, what situations is it used in ?
When is the setting of the times?

If they use the houseboat, then they have to use RDA. Both are the original stars of the show, after all.

Maybe not burnt down but burnt out. There's always rebuilding.

I agree with MGod -- burnt out does not equal burned down. Or Mac could have missed the houseboat so much he got another one just like it!

That's not a bad idea, considering the renovations.

I hope they don't use the houseboat, only because that means they're probably setting it in the 1980s, which means they can't use RDA. Given a choice between the houseboat or RDA, I'd prefer RDA.

Have you actually seen the pictures of the renovation of the houseboat? It's blue now with white interiors and a whole different rearranging of the furniture. Kitchen in the show is now siting room and sitting room is now kitchen.

The only way I think they'd be able to use it would be if Mac either used that year in the loft to rebuild the inside, thus explaining the changes or to a lesser degree, missed the houseboat so much he had another one built almost just like it. I truely don't think it's needed though.

Or setting is present and in a flashback the 1980s (like opening gambit) houseboat may be used. I associate with "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". So RDA may become present MacGyver.

Flashbacks could be an interesting idea, as long as they're not over used.. i.e. not a clip show movie.

It's great to hear that they use the legendary houseboat... but the houseboat has changed from inside a lot.

Yeah I think if they want to keep all the elements which make the show great, it would need to be set within the series time frame.
