Jorma Taccone will direct the new "Magruber" movie, based on the SNL sketch parody of the TV show "MacGyver" filming begins next month in New Mexico.
The movie will be based on the Saturday Night Live sketch which parody’s MacGyver, the 80’s super-spy series starring Richard Dean Anderson. Few details have been made available about the movie plot other than it has been written by Will Forte, John Solomon and Jorma Taccone.
Meanwhile the producers of the announced MacGyver movie remain worryingly quiet. One has to wonder if they are waiting to see how, or if, this MacGruber movie will affect them, or juts taking their time to make sure they come up with a decent movie which pays appropriate homage to, and is worthy of the MacGyver name.

Yes it is. Strangely enough, while going to work this morning I already had this odd feeling that it suddenly became so (too) quiet around the MacGruber trash.
If they stain the MacGyver name...
And who the hell is Jorma Taccone?

What really worries me is that this movie now has cast speculation (with at least one fairly big name associated with it), but the real movie doesn't seem to be even moving.

Guys, guys guys. Look at the bigger picture.
They won't stain the MacGyver name. They CAN'T stain the MacGyver name, this is a parody movie, not a re-creation.
I loved Night at the Roxbury, that was a great SNL movie.
Jorma Taccone is a great director and actor. I've followed his and the other "Dudes'" (Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer) exploits since their pilot episode of "Awesometown". Since that didn't pick up, they have done many things from music videos to writing for and acting in SNL. The trio created the cult hit "Hot Rod". They are really talented and funny, and I love them.
And I think you guys are forgetting the biggest point of all... RDA likes Macgruber! He even participated in 3 of the skits, and I think he was great in them. "Your hair is WAY more 80's!"
Downloading and watching all the Macgruber skits was very enjoyable for me. It mixed the well known part of MacGyver (Macgyverisms) with social commentary. The point is, it only touched on the most popular part of Mac, the "He can make a bomb out of a paperclip and a tin of spam" mentality. You can bet that the Macgruber movie will only touch on this, and not go into the deeper aspects of Mac that we all know and appreciate. It is because of this that it has no chance of actually staining the MacGyver name.
Worry not! I am the biggest fan of MacGyver that I or anyone that knows me knows. And I am looking forward to this movie, because if it does suck, it won't matter. Because all that I know of MacGyver, and all I will ever know of MacGyver, ended in 1992.

I don't care if it's a parody or not. You're missing the point here. We're actually more upset about the fact SNL came up with the parody at high speed on the moment things were finally going for the actual MacGyver film. There was interest for the movie, the owners of the houseboat told the producers they could use it if they wanted it. Things finally got going and than *boom* with all horns and bells SNL announces they were going to make a MacGruber film. Suddenly the mill for the movie stops turning. That's why we're so ticked off about this.

The two will be completely separate entitys. Don't let something that isn't supposed to be taken seriously affect your attitude towards the progression of the real movie.
Also, I would rather watch the Macgruber movie than the new MacGyver movie. Lets be realistic here, the MacGyver movie is in no way going to capture the feel of the original show. It will go the way of Indy 4 and the new Star Wars movies. Film has changed a lot in 20 years. It will be disappointing for the simple fact that we will go in there expecting to see something, and get something completely different.

We don't know if the actual movie is still a go. Indy 4 didn't go a bad way, they made a very good attempt of still going the right way. Harrison Ford was still in it, which meant a lot to his fans. The only new thing was the CGI, everything else was the same.
That it's not going to get the same feeling as before, we all know that.

In these matters don't expect anything, so you won't be disappointed. If sequels are made twenty years after the last one but the main character is still the original actor and they do everything they used to do in the old days now, never expect anything. I don't wanna know about trailers or anything, just the date of release. Look at Rocky 6 for instance.
