I don't consider either 'YouTube' (a video sharing site) nor 'Google' (a search engine, corporate advertising service, and added-service provider..) to actually be proper "Social sites" as such ~ at least not yet.
I have both 'FaceBook' and 'Twitter' accounts, but I'm not exactly active on them ~ I use them mostly for logging into some sites, and for "liking" different business sites and products. As such, I'm probably less-than inactive - maybe "dis-active" would be a better description??
My 'MySpace' page disappeared last month (or at least I can no longer access it..) ~ looks like it may be a common problem with their latest upgrade last month, as their homepage has a blurb that says something like "Can't access your MyPage account anymore ? Press here (points to button..) to re-register your account." !?!
(I've been on the Internet since 1988, (on and off..) - three or four years before most of the world had even heard of it - despite being developed in the early 70's, it wasn't until the 'world wide web' made it more accessible in '91/'92, that the Internet really took off..).

Back in the days when BBS's were all the rage.

Google+ is a social network aimed at being direct competition to Facebook. Although I think they are failing because I don't know a single person who has joined and/or uses Google+. Only reason I use it is because it links to my Android phone.
Youtube is a social media site. It allows you to build networks of friends and subscribers as well as social discussion of the videos along with private messages.

AFTER Facebook's announcements about their new system, style and upgrades (and floating the company..) over the last couple of weeks, I expect that Google will be revisiting their so-far-pretty-lame "social site" attempt (I don't know anybody using the Google social site, either..).
Especially now that Facebook will be targeting more advertising revenue, and will be threatening other internet businesses like Google (probably the biggest advertising company in the world at present..), and maybe also other internet players like Amazon and eBay ~ after all, after their float, Facebook will have to look at growing their income base..
That's why I say that I don't consider Google a proper "social site", as yet ~ maybe they should buy "MySpace", and use its previously-successful model to improve their own struggling would-be social site efforts. Plus, with Google now owning YouTube as well..
Then Google could be a "real" member of that "social site" set...

I'm inactive on most of the major networks . . . that is, I have accounts that I don't use.
I have Google+ account -- I got on during the beta -- but it hasn't rocked my world and I rarely look at it any more.
I have a Facebook account under my real name, which I can't use because of ethical restrictions relating to my work. I'm also on LinkedIn, where my activities are severely restricted for the same reason.
I have a Facebook account under my fandom ID of Beth Owen, which is a technical violation of the Facebook TOS; but I regard Facebook as grotesquely unethical in its entrenched corporate attitudes and policies, and I have no compunction about the violation. I don't use it much, though. I signed up for Twitter to follow a few people, but rarely bother.
I use LiveJournal on a daily basis, like it very much and expect to continue using that as my home base. The amusing twist is that I originally became active on LJ so I'd have a place to post my LOLMacs! I also have a parallel account at Dreamwidth, which I don't use, but might someday.
So feel free to look up lolmac.livejournal.com, or bethinexile.livejournal.com. You can also look up Beth Owen on Facebook. I'm the one in costume, sitting on Ba'al's throne at Gatecon.
Incidentally, MySpace has successfully reinvented itself as the definitive site for musicians, especially indie bands. It's retrenched well enough that it's likely to outlive a good many of the people who've tried to speak at its funeral.

I work in a heavily regulated industry in the US. Anything I do under my real name on any social media platform is subject to official discovery by a governmental regulatory agency, without a warrant. This is the result of a mishmash of fuzzy directives, which in turn is caused by the fact that governmental regulatory agencies aren't very good at reacting quickly to changing technology. And technology changes fast! So the regs are a mess, and meanwhile, I have to watch my own butt.
So I stay inactive under my real name, and keep my fandom identity segregated online.
