I think stuff like the "whirlwind punch" really depends on the actor. RDA just happened to be pretty good at doing some silly stuff like that. I wouldn't want Lucas trying to replicate it. But hopefully Lucas adds his OWN humorous little quirks to the character every once in a while. Stuff like that helps make the character likable.
By the way, what episode was that whirlwind punch from? I'm thinking "Prisoner Of Conscience," but I haven't seen that episode in ages, so I may be completely wrong.

I liked the two-hands-whirlwind-punch especially *lol*
I really hope they give MacGyver some real fighting skills. I never liked how RDA's MacGyver couldn't fight. I know he didn't like fighting, but as they said in The Karate Kid... You don't learn Karate to fight, you learn it so you don't have to fight.
Basing the show on just two main characters (Mac and Pete, but mostly Mac) - was a weakness of the original show.
The show was taxing on RDA, because he was required for nearly every shot.
It also brought with it a very limited shelf life.
They are doing the right thing having a team around MacGyver, he can still have those lone episodes once and a while, but every successful show has a strong supporting cast amongst it's fabric.
For example the Big Bang Theory (Also made by CBS) would not have lasted 10 season, if they had not introduced the guys girlfriends and made them an integral part of the show. This brought about a new dimension and also allowed writers to expand the world around the four lads.
Similarly they are doing this with the new MacGyver show.

Yes, you're right!
They didn't show the episodes in correct order in Germany and I think I only saw this first season episode much later (probably after season 3 or 4). It always stuck with me as a kid.
Being a psychologist who worked in different psychiatric wards in Switzerland, I still wonder if psych wards in other countries really (or still) look like directly out of the "cuckoo's nest". It's also the reason why I recognized the hospital in the "Blood Brothers" episode as an empty psych ward, which just recently got confirmed by the Phoenix Foundation Podcast and some own googling *lol*.

If MacGyver had zero fighting skills whatsover why did he mostly had the upperhand in plenty of fights? Despite losing the fight in The Wasteland he stood his ground for a short time against four guys on his own. And he seemed to know how to handle that bar in the garage fight in Murderers' Sky.
I don't expect much lone MacGyver actually since everything is like team based and with season length storylines lately.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

Couldn't fight? We must have been watching a different show. In the MacGyver I watched, he knocked people out cold with a single punch. I just rewatched The Stringer last night, and had to laugh at how easily he dispatched the long-haired guy on the ship!
But yeah, his fighting technique was a bit silly, so I do know what you mean. On the other hand, I hope they keep that to some degree. It's part of what made him relate-able. I recently watched an episode of Hawaii 5-0, and Steve McGarrett's fighting skills are too over-the-top for a show like MacGyver. It's like watching a professionally trained martial-artist, doing flying kicks, etc. That wouldn't work for MacGyver. MacGyver is supposed to be more of an "everyman."
Speaking of MacGyver's magical knock-out punches-- Why didn't he teach that technique to Earl Dent when he was training him for the boxing match? Earl could have won that fight in three seconds.

In some episodes Mac was poor fighter because the enemy maybe had little bit better fighting skills You know sometimes people are complaining that why the main star doesn't never get hit by shooting gun or why he/she always wins the bad guy, so maybe they wanted to be a fair in some episodes and give a score for the enemy too, for example in fighting. In "Back from the Dead" episode the writer cheated the audience and put the story turn into the fighting scene, everyone "knew" that Mac was gonna win, but the story suddenly changed it direction to worse, when he was shot and almost drowned.

Despite what fans say and the skill of most heroes, they usually get punched down once in while whether you're name is Rocky, Indiana Jones or John McClane. With Rocky that is dramatic, with Indiana Jones it's the same maybe a little more suspense (Temple of Doom fight), with John McClane it's actually funny when he gets beaten because he's just arrogant himself. A guy with lots of talk but gets his butt kicked nevertheless.
MacGyver took a beating in Easy Target at first but won in the end, in Log Jam he eventually gained the upperhand, in Gunz 'N Boyz he pretty much took a beating. And that was about the last good fight in the series. Trail To Doomsday it was the same but he won eventually.
I think it's pretty much even when it comes to winning or losing.

I wonder if these are the re-enforcements?
Maybe renting a Tank is so expensive they lent it someone for the production of a Music video? Or its featured in a Music video for the soundtrack by this George Lott? No clue, really... Are these the Ninja actors they hired? *lol*

I reckon my wish for this new series has come true - I wonder if these are the re-enforcements?
MacGyver is finally coming of age !
Oh wow, let's hope that image is NOT indicative of what the show will be like! haha. "Baywatch With Tanks" is NOT the image they should be going for with a MacGyver reboot.

I disagree ! Sounds like the perfect combination
Hey, aren't you the guy who said you wanted this to be a "serious action show"? "Baywatch With Tanks" is very, very far from "serious"!
