I feel very fortunate that I am allowed to use the internet here. It gets lonely in the office all by myself. There was one time that the internet went down here. And I was on night shift. That was the longest eight hours ever.
And it seems I have successfully squandered another shift here. The last part of it went by pretty fast, thanks to MacGyver clips on YouTube. When I come back for night shift tomorrow, I'm bringing the DVDs!
Good night!

Yeah, Season 1 is awesome! If you do sell the dvd sets here cheaper than Walmart does, I may buy from here as I still need seasons, 4, 5 and 7 to complete.

The only thing that's annoying about the 1st season DVDs is you have to sit through all those previews and you can't skip to the menu Who cares about the previews I just wanna watch the show!

Yeah that is annoying, but at least you can fast forward through them.

Just finished season 1 few days ago and I gotta say it was far better what I had remembered. I have seen the first season more often than any other, but still, it's been a while. If I were to choose, lets say 5 of my favorite episodes, those would have to be Pilot, The Heist, Nightmares, Target MacGyver and The Assassin. Some weaker ones to my taste were The Golden Triangle, Trumbo's World and To Be a Man. Some familiar guest faces I recognized from season 1 were Peter Jurasik Babylon 5, Vernon Wells Mad Max 2, Lisa Allen Wishmaster, Robert Englund Nightmare On Elm Street, Steven Williams The X-Files, John De Lancie Star Trek TNG, Anthony De Longis Masters Of The Universe and Nana Visitor Star Trek DS9. Overall a very good season and many good episodes.

Going through the seasons again since a few weeks. I'm into season 2 but I am going to give a review about the first season. In the passed few years I mostly took a handful of episodes scattered over the season in no particular order. This is the first time in years I'm following the episodes in the order they were aired. Interesting about the first season, I seem to remember again the episodes I disliked in the first place. The season itself started strong but about 3/4 into the season the show reached a terrible low and I always find it hard to get through those episodes. Episodes I disliked in season 1 are Thief of Budapest, The Prodigal, Flame's End. Out of these three I think Flame's End is the best and I liked what Mac was supposed to do in The Prodigal, to get Frank Bennett to his mother but the episode in all is just not interesting. I'm not even going to start about Thief of Budapest. Episodes afterwards are pretty good until The Enemy Within. That episode is still acceptable but quality like it was way below to what else was done before and it kept declining in Every Time She Smiles, To Be A Man and especially in Ugly Duckling. Slow Death was a nice one but The Escape was another terrible episode. A Prisoner of Conscience was getting better and The Assassin was more my style again. A nice episode to finish the season. But episode 15 through 20 is hard to get through. Not really their best episodes. I think this is the only time in the series it happens for that long. I only noticed just now how many episodes that has firsts are not so great. The Prodigal features his first home (not counting the observatory) for the remainder of the season and also Ugly Duckling introduces the Jeep for the first time and Twice Stung is the episode that mentions MacGyverisms. I know that's second season but they all belong to my least favorite episodes. Interesting for a show I considerate my favorite.

I think Ugly Duckling has a little too much scientific talk. I mean who would really think to use the sap of cactus that has electrolytes to get a radiosignal? And Kate is a little too annoying and arrogant. Not my kind of episode at all.

Isn't that the whole point of MacGyver? he uses science and explains it as he goes.
And to be honest this is nothing more than a school science project. It's the same science as running a clock with a potato so I think this would appeal to quite a few people who have done that.
One of the big deals about MacGyver was that it taught people to think and turned them on to science and this woudl be one of the main episode which does that. I shows that being smart "is the new black".

I just finished the Season 1 DVD's and loved it. My favorites were Target MacGyver and To Be a Man, but I loved them all. Good old fashioned 80s television at its finest! I love all the creativity that Mac has, and would love to try the potato powered clock, and my sons love all of it!

Mostly they keep it down to a minimum and simple when it comes to scientific talk but in that episode it's a little too much for my taste and it's little far fetched.

It's a lot LESS far fetched than the bamboo plane that's for sure.
You've seen tomato and potato clocks right? Well Cacti are known for their electrolytes. So much so that Cactus water is a health thing because of the electrolytes in it, so they were probably pretty close to the ball on that one.
That heating the bullet in the gun using the reflector was absolute nonsense though. And they pulled the same stunt again in "The Path Not Taken" except that time they used the rosary beads... even less believable.

It just seemed farfetched to me. Probably because I'm not that much into science. Not at that level at least.
