Thought I'd start a new thread based on TV shows you have seen which you are currently watching / seen years ago.

We just started watching Seinfeld again for like the 3rd or 4th time! It's a classic sitcom which is incredibly funny and has the perfect cast. If you were temporarily in another galaxy during its run on TV, don't even hesitate to pick it up and watch it. It's a 5 star entertainment package! thumbsup.gif

Not really following anything right now. The last show I saw from beginning to end was Ally McBeal.

Afterwards an old Belgian sitcom called 'Familie Backeljau'. It's nowhere else known except here but it resembles a sort of Married With Children about a low class family. The father is a lazy, agressive man much like Al Bundy who works in construction, drinks and hits his son a lot. His son is gay but doesn't know it yet. His daughter is the typical blonde girl with as much brains as Kelly Bundy and works as cop. Than there is also the mother, a chubby redhead dressed like Peggy Bundy would, who is pretty much the most normal family member. Than there is also the grandmother (played by the same actor as the father) who lives quite dangerously for her age with all sorts of hobbies she does with her dog. Her dog is also her scapegoat blaming him for everything she does wrong. Than there also the son's girlfriend who has six brothers looking like Hell's Angels and the Italian boyfriend of the daughter who might or might not have connections with the mob. There's also the neighbor who was one of the most popular characters of the show. Complaining and calling the cops for everything the family does. He himself is an annoying man wearing silly glasses with a band aid on and hearing aid. It was popular when it aired in the 90's and there has been many reruns through the years. It even got a rerelease on dvd about a month ago.

Seinfeld is on my list if I ever get around to buy it.

Right now I'm picking up an episode every now and than from Two and a Half Men when it's aired. I think it's one of the best sitcoms I've ever seen.

What my tv collection is concerned I take pride in MacGyver, Magnum PI, Xena Warrior Princess, Might Morphin Power Rangers, Band of the Brothers and The Pacific.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles completely. Futurama (a long time ago) nearly completely. The Simpsons, most episodes. 24, completely. Curb Your Enthusiasm, almost completely. Arrested Development, season 1-3. Lost, completely. Deadwood, completely. Prison Break, almost completely.

We're watching Burn Notice, Leverage and The Librarians at the moment :-)

Oh, and Midnight Caller biggrin.gif

One I have fully seen on YouTube was Boy Meets World, all seven seasons. It's one of my favorite shows. I was always partial to Saved By The Bell as a kid but after seeing those episodes again I know, Boy Meets World is far more superior despite there very silly and cheesy opening credits in the first season. And they have a worthy sequel with Girl Meets World. Though I'm a little bothered by the terrible acting of 6 year olds. The new generation is doing better: Riley, Maya, Farkle, Lucas. They have just entered the third season and seem to be going for the long run. Some episodes contain good lessons. Things I wish I knew or understood when I was their age. Because there were a lot things I never saw coming or understood in matters that things were changing. Anyway it's a good show and so is Girl Meets World. I think this is the first television show who managed to become a worthy sequel to it's original and a lot of it's people are involved: Executive producers and creators Michael Jacobs and April Kelly. Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel who became producers themselves and are even directing episodes every now and than and also Rider Strong who makes an occasional guest appearance and directed several episodes himself. Maybe it's all a bit more polished because it's from Disney now instead of ABC but it's definitely worth a watch.

Never got around to watching Boy Meets World but it was quite successful if i recall.

Rocket, I am eager to watch Librarians but just don't get the chance. Burn Notice too!

MacGyver1985, Game of Thrones season 6 was superb. I recently decided to put my distaste for the show behind me and caught up. Nice to see the good guys finally winning. There are regrettably only 2 seasons left according to the developers. Season was going to be launched around the same time as this season being around April 2017 however some delays have pushed its release date to a possible May / June date. Also only 7 episodes are expected to be produced. Its slowly drawing to an end.

We got around to watching the pilot episode of Netflix's Stranger Things on Friday and it was very good! A mix of X-Files with a dash of 80's Spielberg made for a rather impressively well produced show. Can't wait to see episode 2.

You should give it a chance. It's one of those shows who dared to go where others usually backed off. Girl Meets World is continuing that.

I will try to find it sometime and give it a go. Thanks, MacGyverGod! thumbsup.gif

We finally got around to watching the pilot of 11.22.63 last night and it was incredible! Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name and produced by JJ. Abrams, 11.22.63 tells the story of Jake Epping, an English teacher who inadvertently stumbles across a time portal which sends him hurtling back to 1960 on a quest to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Production, plot, dialogue and stars all work together to recreate a lost time which looks more lavish than Back to the Future ever did!

5 stars from me!

Game of Thrones is one of those shows that I love to hate, or hate to love... I'm not sure which. lol My sister hasn't finished the 6th season yet, so I've been watching it with her. I already know what happens, but still... it's fun to watch again. Brienne of Tarth has to be my favorite character... lol

I also follow Supernatural (obviously) and American Horror Story. I was watching Containment there for a while, but I believe it was canceled. I did check out the remake of Voltron on Netflix, which isn't bad if you like Anime.

Posted by: denizen 19 July 2016 - 08:15 PM
Voltron remake is fantastic! Love it! smile.gif

Ah, Brienne of Tarth. What a loyal and brave warrior.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 20 July 2016 - 12:01 AM
Brienne! Taller than most men. I think she's about six foot three inches for a woman and in reality more attractive than in the show. I'd go for the Mother of Dragons.

Posted by: denizen 20 July 2016 - 12:56 AM
Since we're all pledging our allegiance, i will second House of Targaryen. laugh.gif

My sister is also for Daenerys. lol She cheered at the end of Book of the Stranger.

I do love Tyrion Lannister as well. Also, I love how social media has eaten up Brienne and Tormund. XD I so feel Brienne in this show. lol That and the memes are hilarious. XD

GOT is a difficult show to watch, granted. Mostly due to the fact that the good guys don't always win. However for what its worth, Season 6 is quite possibly the most rewarding season as the tables turn for most of the bad characters.

Last night i finally got around to watching the pilot episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion (Japanese Anime Classic to those who are not familiar with it) and it was quite good. Quite scary just how many movies have ripped off its ideas such as Pacific Rim. But it is a fun show to watch if you like your anime.

For all you fans of MacGyverisms and quick fixes to everyday problems, Hack My Life is an awesome show to watch!
user posted image

TV personality Kevin Pereira and comic Brooke Van Poppelen explore the world of "life hacks": procedures or actions that solve problems, simplify tasks or reduce frustrations. From opening a wine bottle with a shoe, eliminating pet hair on fabric with a squeegee and flip-flop, or using a sock to make a toilet seat more comfortable, the successful hacks are designed to be fun, inexpensive time-savers. Those that don't live up to the hype are exposed, and undercover hacks challenge members of the public to overcome pitfalls.

2 Thumbs up!

Started watching Stranger Things on Netflix. It's so good! Not only is it set in the early 80's, but the style of the show is VERY 80's and in a good way, even the intro. So far, I've only watched three episodes, but there's tons of throwbacks to the 80's.

I miss Trapper Keepers... lol And there's even a scene with use of a Swiss Army Knife... well, to open beer cans, but it was in there! lol

Posted by: denizen 1 August 2016 - 08:32 PM
Yup. Watching Stranger Things too. Also only seen 3 episodes so far but its getting interesting.

Everything about it is so 80's. Even the John Carpenter music. biggrin.gif

"Listen very carefully I shall say this only once" we are back to the 80's at the moment, I got a boxed set for silly money at a second-hand sale and I introduced the kids to the silliness that is 'Allo 'Allo. Anyone for the egg whisk and wet celery!!!? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink!

Miami Vice, I mostly liked seasons 1-3, I haven't yet finished all seasons I'm going on season 4......gosh it was I guess 2013 when I last time watched it blink.gif
I don't remember what happend, I guess I didn't have time to watch those and then finally forgot that I had almost full season of unwatched episodes laugh.gif

Posted by: MacGyverGod 23 August 2016 - 08:26 AM
Right now, I'm watching Entourage. Just needed a little something to laugh at. Though not the first time I'm watching it, even if I haven't seen the last two seasons yet.

Posted by: denizen 23 August 2016 - 08:48 PM
I used to watch the Simpsons religiously back in the day although with there being so many seasons, eventually got off it.

Lately i have been watching again from season 2. Have to admit, i love the old episodes. Burns could never quite remember Homer's name. biggrin.gif

Posted by: MacGyverGod 24 August 2016 - 12:51 AM
Yeah, same here. I got into it and than out of it after years and years of reruns. It's still being aired here. I have the first season and a Halloween dvd but I never bought the other seasons because I figured I could always catch it on tv.

In the meantime I found a series called Hemlock Grove. Eli Roth's new horror series. It seems quite brutal.

I have recently starting watching the old Next Generation from the beginning. When TNG originally aired i was pretty much glued to my seat but soon lost interest due to the extent of time it took for each season to come into this country.

Some episodes were a little silly too so i stopped watching altogether. But i always regretted it because i read up about some awesome episodes including the alternate universe ones as well as the holodeck gangster episodes that sounded fun.

It's a no brainer that it belongs here with the ranks of great and classic shows and most of you have no doubt seen it. If i get through this, i will probably start with Deep Space Nine and move onto Voyager. Now, Voyager was a show i saw from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed. Its classic Star Trek at its best and TV, i fear, will never be the same.

Not The Nine O'Clock News is one of my favourite comedy shows. The actors were Rowan Atkinson, Mel Smith, Griff Rhys Jones and Pamela Stephenson.

Alas Smith and Jones was also similar to that, which I like too thumbup.gif

I'm almost finished watching season 1 of Next Generation and i love it! Last night i saw the final episode to 11.22.63 and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you enjoyed watching Back to the Future, i recommend this show. Although quite different, it bears similar traits to the classic movie trilogy which you will appreciate. Also only have 1 more episode of Stranger Things to watch and that is another highly recommended one for those who have yet to see it!

I have the complete Star Trek TNG on DVD and often watch it. For me that was the best series. Probably in order of enjoyment for me it goes.

ST - TNG
ST - Voyager
ST - TOS
ST - DS9
ST - Enterprise - which I never really got into despite being a real Scott Bakula fan (I have the entire Quantum Leap series on DVD too!). Enterprise is the only ST franchise that I've never seen every episode for.

In short I am a bit of ST addict!

I have found the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on YouTube and complete. Well actually I knew it for sometime now, I just got around to watch it. It has been years and years since I have seen them. I've seen The Curse of the Jackal and a segment in Tangiers. He was still like 9 years old so the action/adventure from the movies are nowhere to be found, but it does include a few good lessons and he meets historical peoples like Lawrence of Arabia and Howard Carter. One of them lessons is that Lawrence teaches him it's not about money and that the past belongs to be opened up so everyone can enjoy it. I sure am going to look further at this and maybe learn a few forgotten things about Indiana Jones when he's growing up and during his time in World War I in the Belgian army.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 20 September 2016 - 03:34 PM
Just finished episode 3. Despite it has Indiana Jones written all over it, I can't say it's that good. But I guess I have to bite through.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 26 September 2016 - 03:41 AM
Looks like Young Indiana Jones has picked up after all. Though it really starts when he joins Pancho Villa in Mexico and meets his Belgian friend Remy and they decide to go Europe and join the war. This is becoming more and more like the war romances I like so much. They just had a stop in Ireland and witnesses the revolution there and than goes to London to sign up and of course in both countries he falls in love with someone. Though in London it seems the most serious for the first time. He meets suffragettes there. This is a really nice aspect from what I've seen so far. Indiana Jones was suppose to be a very modern person. As a 9-year old he stopped Teddy Roosevelt from shooting and hurting animals. He learned about the religions in India and in the last one I've seen he seems very supportive of women's rights. In London (which starts with a familiar shot: the Big Ben and the steps where the chase in LTOA ended) Indy attends a meeting of the suffragettes there and of course falls in love with one right before London is attacked by a zeppelin. During the meeting a woman who is not used to talk to an audience is constantly interrupted by a male bystander. In the end Indy gets up and publicly silences the man as he is interested into what the woman has to say. I think those are really nice touches and they address a lot of subjects you never see anywhere else.

In the meantime on the Indy forums I've discovered a whole lot of unfilmed episodes. There is still a whole lot you can do with Indiana Jones and I hope sometime they pick it back up and I don't mean just the movies but a tv-series as well.

Does anyone else watch Orphan Black? It's one of my absolute favourite shows of the last few years - the 5th and final season goes into production soon. The lead actress, Tatiana Maslany, just won a very deserved and overdue Emmy for it.

Posted by: denizen 26 September 2016 - 04:29 AM
Hi Connelly,

I saw the pilot to Orphan Black. It was okay for me. But never went beyond that.

Posted by: Connelly 26 September 2016 - 05:00 AM
Oh that's a shame - if you ever get the urge to give it another go, watch up to the 3rd (I think) episode and then decide if you like it or not - it kicks up a gear then and I was totally hooked from that episode on. It can get very dark at times but also has its funny moments. And Tatiana is just incredible of course.

Watching Curb Your Enthusiasm now. Larry David sure is something else. But man, the guest stars that appear. I've seen at least four guest stars coming from MacGyver. General Chantara from The Road Not Taken plays a customer when Larry is working as a car salesman, Lancer from D.O.A. MacGyver plays Larry's psychiatrist with an interesting choice of swimwear, Chung from The Stringer plays a somewhat naughty doctor cutting deals with Larry to heal him from his pain and Melvin Krasney shows up as graveyard keeper who gets bribed by Larry to move his mother to another place on the cemetary. And of course Honest Abe plays Larry's father. Anyway, there's always something to laugh at.

Posted by: denizen 4 October 2016 - 08:48 PM
If you enjoy Curb Your Enthusiasm, I recommend you watch Seinfeld. Larry co wrote all the episodes with Jerry Seinfeld so they are very similar in vane. Also, you will notice a few appearances from the cast.

Speaking of shows, two nights ago we saw...

Westworld. I recall the original movie from the 70's by Michael Crichton but this is a vast remake which pits the story in a much edgier world. The pilot was a little over the top IMO but i stuck with it to the end and i am happy i did. Mostly because it helped to establish the world we were about to enter. From here on, we are aware, as an audience what the visitors can expect. If you enjoy Game of Thrones, there might be something here for you.

Looking forward to both. biggrin.gif

I finally got around to watching the final episode of The Night Of, last night.

This show is actually based on the BBC series "Criminal Justice,"

The Night Of stars John Turturro and Riz Ahmed in a story about a murder case with cultural and political overtones. A night that begins innocently for Pakistani-American college student Nasir "Naz" Khan turns horrific after he meets a mysterious young woman. In custody and awaiting his formal arraignment, Naz realizes that his survival -- or perhaps his demise -- rests not with his attorney, John Stone, but with a particular inmate at Rikers Island. This was a rare treat of top directing, acting and emotions running high. It is also a question of whether our justice system is in the right place or not.

5 very deserving stars from me!

Recently saw an episode of Star Trek Next Gen Season 2 episode 4 titled, "The Outrageous Okona" which surprisingly featured guest stars Teri Hatcher & Bill Campbell! (Rocketeer / The 4400).

It was quite a surprise as i never expected to see Teri in Star Trek! biggrin.gif

That's what I like about tv-shows or movies for that matter. That while you're watching, you suddenly get to see an actor or actress you didn't expect at all and you would just go like: 'Huh?' It's amazing sometimes who you might bump into while watching something before the actor or actress got launched into stardom.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 22 October 2016 - 03:34 PM
Anyone seen Zoo? Animals around the world are beginning to attack humans apparently out of nowhere. Seems like an interesting concept for a MacGyver episode.

Posted by: denizen 22 October 2016 - 09:59 PM
Saw the pilot when it came out but disliked it. Takes place in the US (Africa's phenomenon takes place in a small lodge) it didn't feel very real to me

Posted by: MacGyverGod 23 October 2016 - 01:29 AM
Seen the first two episodes now. Despite I only know that black actor and the bad guy from the first fast and furious movie, there's no one in it that I know. I'm not sure yet, I'm still going to give it a chance. They air four episodes per week on Friday night. I guess it's easy to go through. I don't know what I expect yet. I hope it doesn't end too mediocre. I really like the idea of the animals taking over the world. That it didn't happen before.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 24 October 2016 - 02:13 AM
I just caught up with everything on Zoo. It's pretty decent actually. You should give it a chance, Denizen. It's maybe not spectacular great but it's better than most things. And it focuses more than you think. US was L.A. Africa were tourist camps and the areas in between, not just the small lodge. Meanwhile there has been a lot of new locations all over the globe where people were being attacked by animals. Dogs in Slovenia, rats in Boston, bears in Paris, bats in Antarctica, Japan and Brazil. Special effects are not bad either. If it's CGI at all, don't know in which length they're using actual animals. The bats I think are not real considering the things they are doing. It's not that bad actually.

I don't know. To me this is also messing with perfection as far I know. And I wasn't exactly convinced either. Maybe I would give it a shot though.

Dusted off my North and South collection. It has been several years since I've seen it last time. Many familiar and younger faces. Young Patrick Swayze and Forest Whitaker for starters and later Lloyd Bridges will join the cast as the President Jefferson Davies during the Civil War. Also a whole lot of other faces like Luther from Final Approach who plays Priam and the motel clerk from Three For The Road who plays Salem Jones the overseer. And let's most definitely not forget John Anderson who plays William Hazard in one episode. Though only in three scenes but major scenes with lots of lines. And also Jonathan Frakes is worth mentioning, if you ever want to see him beardless, this is the one thing you should watch. And there are many others: Jean Simmons, Elizabeth Taylor, Morgan Fairchild, Mitchell Ryan and David Carradine who in my opinion should receive an Emmy for playing Justin LaMotte. He just owns every scene he's in.

This is definitely a golden oldy.

North and South? Wow! Haven't seen that in like...30 years? I remember it was quite good.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 7 November 2016 - 03:30 AM
Actually one of the best. A real classic.

Posted by: Maclover 7 November 2016 - 05:25 AM
I remember being quite captivated by North and South and watched every episode when it was on. Handsome actors, extravagantly costumed ladies a solid story line, and Jonathon Frakes beardless! What was there not to like LOL From time to time I've caught the odd episode being re-run and would like the time to see them all again. I also read all the series of books as a result of seeing the series and there was a considerable amount of licence taken in the TV series. For example, Orry Maine doesn't lose an entire limb in the TV series - mind you it would have required some clever shooting to have effectively removed a limb from Patrick Swayze I guess! However, I still enjoyed the TV series. It was a bit of an epic. A bit like I recall The Thorn Birds being - that was another one I'd like the time to see again (Richard Chamberlain was always so good looking in whatever he was in

Posted by: MacGyverGod 7 November 2016 - 06:47 AM
I think it was John Jakes himself who explained on the dvd featurette that Hollywood wasn't much in favor of having a mutilated hero. So the amputated arm became an injured leg. I don't think it would have been that hard however to remove a limb for shooting it. As a matter of fact in the field hospital after the Mexican war scene, you can an extra passing the screen with a removed arm. Depending if the stump would be shown a lot or not all Swayze would've had to do was to keep his arm under his clothing and pin up the sleeve.

I only read the first book and a small bit of the second one. There was a lot of switching from the book and the tv-series as well. Orry and Madeline meet after Orry comes home from West Point instead of when he's going and George and Constance meet before George goes to the Mexican war. There's also been some weight shifts between Bent and Salem Jones. I have to picture Bent as obese and Salem Jones as skinny. While Cooper has always been an important character in the books but only appears in the last part of the tv-series.

Maybe interesting in case you didn't know but James Read (George Hazard) & Wendy Kilbourne (Constance) as well as Jonathan Frakes (Stanley Hazard) and Genie Francis (Brett Main) are married in real life to this day.

North and South is going great and I just had again a few surprises. Since it had been several years, no wonder I never noticed but in the third episode of book II, Robert Englund has a scene with Parker Stevenson. Englund plays a Rebel capturing Billy Hazard by surprise at his campfire. Another surprise was that the cook from Last Stand played a slave. He was the father of a boy that got killed by Salem Jones and later greets Patrick Swayze when passing through after they got released as slaves.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 13 November 2016 - 05:28 AM
Now I'm about the finish the final episode. I really think it's a shame Heaven & Hell wasn't as good as the first two seasons. Maybe they had less budget or something, I don't know. With only 3 90 minute episodes instead of 6. Or maybe there was a reason why it took 8 years after the finale of book II to have it made for television. Well the book wasn't finished yet at the time, I think it was released in 1987. But still it took so long, it could've be done in 1988 or 1989. Though of course many actors return: James Read, Philippe Casnoff, Genie Francis (cameo only unfortunately), Terri Garber, Lesley-Anne Down (Madeline sure has had her share of misery), Jonathan Frakes and Wendy Kilbourne. A few new faces like Tom Noonan and Kyle Chandler to replace Lewis Smith in the role of Charlie. Also Isabel Truscott has been recast with Deborah Rush. Also the beautiful Rya Khilstedt joins the cast in the role of Willa Parker. Penny Parker's great-grandmother, perhaps? Willa also is an actress and becomes romantic with Charlie. And let's not forget Peter O' Toole who plays Sam the owner of the acting company where Willa works. And Robert Wagner who plays Cooper Main, the absent brother in the previous two seasons but have been present in all three books.

I really think it must've been the budget. Perhaps they couldn't afford Swayze anymore, maybe that's why they used a double in his fate-scene. Even though it was done pretty lame. Just like George says: he survived everything, the wars, the wounds just so a man can knife him down. The Orry Main we see in the first two seasons would never die like that. The action sequences compared with the battles and fist fights in the first two seasons are written and shot very poorly. Most of the action takes place with Charlie but for some reason he's always knocked-out cold, either at the beginning of the scene or when things finally get going. What's the point in having your lead character knocked out during a action sequence so he misses everything? Not once but twice.

Anyhow where North and South book I and II were classics on tv, book III is actually a disaster.

Just one more thing. Michael Dudikoff (American Ninja) also plays a little part in Book II. I remember seeing American Ninja 1&2 in another grey past and I've looked them up on YouTube. Apparently another five film franchise. While checking out the trailers, I found this one.

Though this one this not star Michael Dudikoff but stars... see for yourself.

Here is just a few I can recommend.

Chuck
Jericho ( Something along the lines to The Walking Dead, just without the Zombies)
Friends
How I met your mother
Westworld
Stranger Things
Sense 8 ( Netflix Original)
The Walking Dead

Probably more, but this is what I can think of right now.

Thanks for your recommendations, ArildElvis! I have seen most of those and wholeheartedly agree! thumbsup.gif

As we draw to a close for the year, i had to reminisce about what i thought without doubt were the best seasons of shows that were released this year and it wasn't tough to choose either. With so many new releases and so few with empty promise, these IMO were the winners this year...

user posted image

The Night Of was just simply classic cop show TV at its best. Had me from the get go and kept me in throughout the end. The main character was easy to connect to and felt like you were there with him.

Still haven't read the book but 11.22.63 really blew me away. It was a time travel experience that felt sooo real. And the magic of it drawing you back to the 60's worked like a charm. The mystery behind the greater power and the nail biting plot made for a real treat.

user posted image

For somebody that never really enjoyed Game of Thrones, i decided to play catch up, slowly going through all the seasons. It was somewhat of a personal accomplishment when i caught up just before the 6th season premiered and it was all in good timing. Season 6 brought about a justice so many fans had longed for including an unforgettable start and an explosive finale which any fan can probably agree was the best season by far. 3 thumbs up! biggrin.gif

Harley and the Davidsons was just a 3 part miniseries when it was released just 2 months ago but its production, story and its stars really brought this awesome story to life. Who would of thought that a tale of a bike would be so incredible. But it was. A real charmer and put a pleasant smile on my face.

Lastly, we come to Stranger Things. This was a real surprise to fans of the 80's. Taking place in a small town during the 80's era, strange things start to occur the moment a small boy disappears. Many have seen this as Winona Ryder's return to fame and it is although the real stars of this show are the younger cast IMO. Amazing directing, great 80's score and soundtrack and great suspense and visual effects. And season 2 is on the way!

If you still have not seen any of the above, give em a go.

Right now I'm watching Arrested Development. It's a funny show and has Henry Winkler in a funny supporting role as the family's no-good lawyer and there has been a great Fonzie reference of course when standing in a front of mirror about to comb his hair but doesn't.

But it's a great concept on how the Bluth's seem completely oblivious to what's happening around them and Michael (Jason Bateman) has to keep them all together. A movie was set to happen but after a 7 year hiatus a fourth season was made and there are still plans to make the movie and a fifth season.

If you like a good laugh, this one is for you.

I found The Golden Girls on YouTube. Extremely vague memories but I do remember the series finale. This was a show I used to watch with my mother as a kid but this goes waaaaay back into the early 90's. I especially like Estelle Getty and Betty White. Getty playing a rude elder woman and Betty White plays not exactly a smart person. Despite it's on YouTube the quality is not that great of course and besides season 1, I never found it on dvd, at least not in Europe, with exception of that first season. I sure am curious though of the guest stars. In the second episode Herb Edelman has a guest role as Dorothy's ex-husband. Of course I'm curious to who else might pass. Also in the two episodes I've seen, I'm glad there's also space for a touch of drama.

Posted by: denizen 13 December 2016 - 07:51 PM
Coincidentally Estelle Getty was the youngest of them all. She had to put on a wig for her role. biggrin.gif

Did you know that the show spun off in two other shows?

The Golden Palace & Empty Nest. smile.gif

If you like Estelle's performance i recommend watching Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot starring Sylvestor Stallone & Getty. It was very funny.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 14 December 2016 - 03:04 AM
Talking about flipping ages. I thought Dorothy looked pretty good.

Never knew about the spin-off.

I knew indeed that Estelle Getty starred in Stop! Or My Will Shoot. Which is Stallone's biggest disaster. That could've been a real career killer. Of course no blame to Getty. I've seen it twice and both times I thought it was bad. But apparently Brigitta Stenberg makes a small cameo as I think an airplane stewardess which Getty arrives in L.A.

We decided to give Riverdale a watch a few days ago.

For those of you that don't know, Riverdale is the latest incarnation of the world famous Archie Comic book. However if it is Archie that you're looking for, you won't find it. This is more of Dawson's Creek meets Twin Peaks. I kid you not.

And although it isn't necessarily bad viewing, it isn't what a lot of people were hoping/expecting.

Not sure if anyone has seen the Expanse yet. Season 2 has just aired but im still haggling on with season 1. Mainly because i find it difficult to watch. Reviews have been through the roof as it being the finest Sci-Fi show since Star Trek. Still I am willing to see the rest of season 1 through to give it a fair chance.

Though, I just found out that Bill Nye is coming out with a new show starting on April 21st on Netflix. Because I was a huge fan of Bill Nye the Science Guy back in the day, I have to give it a try!

And because the theme song is now stuck in my head....

Well its been out for a couple of weeks but we decided to start watching Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix.

Starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant and telling the story about Sheila (Barrymore) who starts to undergo some odd changes which lead to catastrophic situations yet ultimately make her feel better. biggrin.gif

It's no lighthearted show but there is a slight appeal to it. Here's the trailer. biggrin.gif

I've watched some of Santa Clarita Diet, and it's "okay". Amusing, actually. Makes me think a bit of iZombie.

Zombies aren't my thing anymore though. lol

I actually have been watching Bob's Burgers a lot lately. Everyone kept talking about it, and I wasn't that into it at first, now I into the third season. I dunno how that happened.

I always started watching Parks and Recreation, which is funny.

I also just found out that season 7 of Game of Thrones isn't until July 16th. Last season maybe?? O_o

Caught the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Making_History_(TV_series) a few weeks ago. It was pretty good and recommended if you like those Back to the Future, changing the future, time travel situations.

Posted by: denizen 15 March 2017 - 07:59 PM
Jedi, Santa Clarita has its moments but as i mentioned its not lighthearted. smile.gif

I used to watch iZombie but didn't like the formulaic routine. I still think Rose McIver (Star of the show) culd pass as a next generation Sarah Michelle Gellar Buffy. biggrin.gif

I saw a few episodes of Bob's Burgers. Not bad.

Game of Thrones Season 7 is the second last season. It will consist of 7 episodes and conclude in its 8th Season next year with just a measly 6 episodes.

Joe, Making History sounds like a lot of fun. smile.gif

Now, I'm watching Zorro of the 90's with Duncan Regehr as Zorro. Also a bit of nostalgia. I used to watch this one as kid. I don't remember much from this. Now looking back at it, this one is kinda of lighthearted. And only 25-30 minutes long. The fights are fun and unharmful. Actually just some fast ticking of the swords and the one punch to win. Though I remember different actors. I knew there were two Alcaldes. A younger one and an older man and another actor who must've taken over the role of Zorro's father at some point. I'm sure I'll find out how that one goes.

Posted by: denizen 11 April 2017 - 05:02 AM
Never seen the Zorro TV series but it sounds interesting.

For those of you who were ever fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000, its coming back!!!!

Season 11 hits Netflix this Friday. It has a new cast with some oldies back for a cameo.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 11 April 2017 - 03:47 PM
Actually it is. I just think it's a pity though they decided to make the episodes only 25-30 minutes long. Making it 45 minutes wouldn't have hurt either. But maybe it is because they were targeting maybe a younger audience. I've seen people getting shot and no blood for instance. Zorro is pretty nice. Some episodes are directed by Mike Vejar. I think MacGyver and Zorro could've been great friends. Just as MacGyver, Zorro is a man of science, very in to chemistry. Also Zorro appears to come up with his own isms and diversions once in a while like explosive arrows and a hang glider. And it also give as interesting view on how Los Angeles came to be. Even the big Los Angeles we know now was once a small simple town with only one tavern and a town square and now it is one of the biggest cities in the world. It sure would make an interesting piece of history if I looked it all up on how the Spanish colonized the West Coast before both sides caught up with each other.

In other news... biggrin.gif

I was always curious about Under The Dome though.

I remember thinking on how King adaptations seemed to have reached a lowlight. I remember Desperation and Kingdom Hospital being of the last in the old fashioned way or in miniseries style. Than years it seemed like nothing happened and than with Carrie's remake everything slowly seemed to be coming back. Dark Tower is being made, It gets a reboot, now The Mist.

I have started watching L.A. Law again from season 1 and i'm loving it! It was quite possibly the first law show featuring an ensemble cast following their lives and relationships. Still a top show to watch. Always came across very smart and funny. It also knew when to be sensible and crazy at times too. The show was created by Steven Bochco and Terry Louise Fisher and was also a beginning point for a lot of people too such as David E Kelley who started off as an executive producer. Also featured a lot of would be stars such as Don Cheadle, Kathy Bates, David Schwimmer, James Avery, Gates McFadden, Bryan Cranston, Kevin Spacey, Carrie-Anne Moss, William H. Macy, Christian Slater, and Lucy Liu.

And a super theme from the brilliant Mike Post.

All the cast were great but i love Jimmy Smits, Richard Dysart, Michael Tucker & of course Corbin Bernsen.

I believe there is currently a reboot / continuation in the works which will bring back original creators Bochco & Fisher along with some of the original cast now playing senior partners with a new batch of younger lawyers.

L.A. Law, I heard about it when I was watching Ally McBeal.

Anyway, I'm in the third season of Zorro now. Taking it slow now, since I almost caught up with the airings. But season 2 had several great and darker episodes too.

Other shows I'm watching right now are Lethal Weapon and Zoo. I'll start with Zoo first. Watching the second season now and it has great pacing. Last fall, I have seen season 1 which was great but now it gets better and a few unexpected twists. Also again I think MacGyver would've fitted to be in this show. This is so his thing about biology and science, trying to find a cure working together with a group. This is a good concept about animals turning against mankind in order to exterminate them by working together with all the groups of animals.

Lethal Weapon is not so great so far. Though I did like the last episode but both of them are no Riggs and Murtaugh. Especially Murtaugh is just so wrong. The Murtaugh in the movies was at least respected by his family as a father and a police officer. This Murtaugh is not respected at all and he tries too hard to be the cool dad for his children which he clearly is not. His kids are not even named to the ones in the movies but neither was Riggs' wife. Vicky became Miranda. Nick became RJ (yes Roger Jr.) and his daughter Rianne is now called Riana. Seriously, Riana? Rihanna? I think Damon Wayans has to add a little more Jimmy Dix to the character. The guy who plays Riggs is a little better than I expected. The stunts are a little exaggerated, I've seen them doing stuff they didn't do in the movies, even Murtaugh. Still haven't heard his catch phrase of being too old for that s***. One big issue, I have are the songs during action scenes. I don't get what's so appealing of using songs during action sequences. It does not make it hip. I wish Michael Kamen was still alive or that they would at least get Eric Clapton and David Sanborn to bring the electric guitar and saxophone back. It's a little on the mediocre side and they should get Murtaugh a little more serious and keep the songs out and it'll be better. On a better note: Jordana Brewster plays a great supporting role.

It's back. For a third season. Twin Peaks. Although I can hardly remember the previous series, it was weird and i did kinda enjoy it.

Last night episodes 1 & 2 aired back to back so needless to say, ill be watching tonight! thumbsup.gif

Posted by: MacGyverGod 22 May 2017 - 07:05 AM
Some day, I will see Twin Peaks. happy.gif

I finished Zoo a while ago, which was great. Lethal Weapon is getting far better than it was in the beginning. I'm actually starting to like it. I finished Zorro until season 3 with the airings. 13 episodes more to go so I'll leave that until it's done so I can watch them all together.

I'm also watching 24: Legacy now which I actually really like. Yes, it's without Kiefer Sutherland, so no Jack Bauer. But they seem to be able to pull it off without him, yet he is still a producer of the show. The concept didn't change, just the charactes. All new characters but the concept stays the same. I don't consider this a continuation of the original show but more like spin-off. It did however made me hungry for the old show, so I bought the first two seasons to start with again.

Posted by: denizen 22 May 2017 - 08:22 PM
24 Legacy has unfortunately been cancelled. So no season 2.

I saw the first episode to Twin Peaks' 3rd season and wow! Freaky stuff. But I highly recommend it if you were ever a fan of the original show.

MacGyverGod, i actually saw the pilot episode to Zorro the other day. It was a little campy but fun.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 23 May 2017 - 02:41 AM
Than it's just a tenth season to me. And last night I did saw one familiar face, besides Miranda Otto.

As with most (older) shows early episodes are usually testing. I actually missed the pilot episode a long with four others when they aired because I didn't know about the airings. Yet it doesn't really matter since in season 1 there is a bigger storyline set over four episodes that shows the true beginnings of Zorro called The Legend Begins. It tells the story on how Diego went to college in Madrid, how he learned to use swords and that he came back on the insistence of his father because Los Angeles fell under the reign of the Alcalde and that the town was in need of someone who supported the people. Maybe those episodes are even better to start with. Season 1 was indeed a bit campy and it always has been that way. Season 2 has a lot darker episodes though.

Got around to watching the pilot episode of American Gods.

Despite his reluctance to help this dishonest man, his life starts to take a supernatural turn into that destiny and realizes that there is more going on here than he anticipated. This is quite a difficult show to watch if gore, violence, swearing and explicit scenes are not your thing. (They're not exactly mine biggrin.gif ) and yet there was something intriguing about this show. Almost as if i had to find out what was going to happen next.

It's not bad for what it is and i have only seen the pilot but be warned of the extremities.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 30 May 2017 - 04:59 PM
Extremities? Sweet. The title does seem familiar but I have not seen this.

Right now, I'm back into more domestic series and one in particular called 'F.C. De Kampioenen,' roughly translated: 'F.C. The Champions'. Boy, what I can tell you about this series. It's the 2nd longest sitcom in the history of Belgian television. It lasted 21 seasons and has 273 episodes, 2 movies and a 3rd in the making. It started when I was four years old, in my second year in kindergarten and ended when I was already working full time for two years. So it lasted my entire childhood and high school career. I did sort of lost track of it in the last four seasons but I intend to make it up for it now. It was just so popular and very succesful even to this day. The series is about a terrible smalltime soccer team, a real canteen club to be exact and they play rather poorly, though they've won matches too. The lead characters are the families of the trainer (his wife and daughter), the keeper and his wife and the captain of the team and his wife also their chairman and a hostile neighbor. Most episodes are based on misunderstandings usually started by the keeper's dominant wife or the selling of the soccer field by their chairman to their hostile neighbor. Pretty much every episode is set in the club's canteen where everything is discussed and solved. Despite all their differences, bickerings and pranks, they usually forgive each other with a 'Tournee Generale' meaning that the chairman buys drinks for everyone and all is forgotten because they're a group of friends in the first place.

Despite the long run the series never really changes much. After four seasons 2 characters disappear including the original trainer, who initially left to stop his father from getting a relationship with the series first antagonist's strict mother. Originally he was meant to disappear after an unexpected succesful disappearing act but it was deemed unrealistic so they reshot the ending of that season which was has been used ever since, including on the dvd's. The original ending was only used once during the original airings. After he leaves the keeper becomes the trainer for another four to five seasons. While the clumsy boyfriend of the original trainer's daughter becomes keeper. The original trainer has been referenced in some episode but only returns in the second movie after believe it or not 21 years.

Also the team's captain is not seen again after season 4, mainly because the actor got fired for appearing drunk on the set and ruining takes. The actor really hit rock bottom since. The characters disappearance is explained for leaving his wife for another woman. The antagonist's nephew comes in place and becomes the new captain for the remainder of the show. Also he becomes trainer around season 9 or 10 for the rest of the show. So the trainer who followed up the original trainer becomes keeper again and the clumsy boyfriend keeper becomes captain.

The series also has known several antagonists. The garage owner, who was one of the most popular characters in the show. In his final episode he got arrested for fraude and was sent to jail. He makes one more return in the 20th seasons and also returns in the second movie. The actor left after 8 seasons to work for another channel and was followed up by the 2nd antagonist, nephew of the original keeper, a loudmouthed cook. This character was the least popular amongst the fans and also the actor wasn't happy with the part and left after two seasons. He was followed by the third antagonist: an older antique shop owner. He shared a few similarities like the garage owner and trying to shake people out of their money. After his entrance he remained the antagonist for the second half of the series existence.

A few characters came and left as in every show but the concept pretty much stays the same and I think that also adds to their popularity. They never really jumped the shark even though they had a few weaker seasons, especially after the garage owner left but they mostly kept the ratings quite steady over those years and the reruns are also still very popular.

I am currently on Season 5 of Star Trek TNG and just saw the 2 parter of Unification which guest starred Leonard Nimoy as Spock. Bit of a boring 2 parter but it was fun to see Spock in the Next Generation.

Interestingly the episode before had Wesley Crusher return for a 1 episode reunion and even had Ashley Judd guest star in a surprisingly strong first appearance.

Lethal Weapon season 1 is over now, here in Belgium. It had it's moments and they had their good and lesser episodes. The last two were great and a good finale for the first season. I sure want more but they have to cut off some edges here and there, like lose the songs during the episode, whether it is during an emotional moment or an action moment, it's distracting and makes it less cool than when you use an actual score. At least in my opinion. But season 2 is allowed to come.

Though it wasn't the tv-show yet but I'm about to get there, last night I have seen the first tv-movie of Columbo: Prescription Murder. Peter Falk's first appearance as Columbo. Which was for a tv-movie of 1968 not bad at all. You do have to keep your attention to it or else you might miss some cool things in the way he works. He's a totally different cop than all those others in movies and series. Instead of guns blazing, fighting and explosions, Columbo takes the subtle way and plays it more psychological, mostly thanks to his sloppy appearance. He doesn't even have a gun. I think this also one of those series they just don't make anymore. However Columbo appears between 1968 and 2003 with an eleven year break between 1978 and 1989. I remember watching Columbo as kid in the 90's. That was our Saturday night. But I never figured the show lasted that long, ten seasons over a course of 35 years even though most seasons only exists of 8 episodes tops, of course spread over the years and probably into like 90 minute episodes. There was even an episode planned to be released in 2007 which was choosen by Peter Falk himself who expressed interest into returning to the role. Unfortunately Falk was diagnosed with Alzheimers later that year and couldn't even remember he ever played the role. Falk passed away in 2007.

Columbo also had a spin-off called Mrs. Columbo, in which she solves a few cases of her own. But the fans said she didn't meet up to the description of Columbo's wife and was poorly received and there for canceled after two seasons and 13 episodes.

Now I'm curious to the show and wonder which actors all appeared. In one of the episodes, I think even the first Martin Milner plays a role. That's an interesting one to begin with.

Posted by: denizen 3 August 2017 - 05:23 AM
Coincidentally that was Steven Spielberg's Directorial Debut.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 3 August 2017 - 06:38 AM
Spielberg directed the first episode of Columbo? I'll have to check that out. There was also a second tv-movie before the series started but I don't know if it aired. Ever since a month or so I've been recording the tv-show but Prescription Murder was aired on a different channel while the other channel is just doing the episodes.

Seen it now: Murder By The Book. I didn't even recognize Martin Milner and with great reference to Presciption Murder.

You should give Better Call Saul a try. Very cool show IMO.

Yes, Game of Thrones is a frustrating watch. Still havent seen episode 4 yet but did watch last weeks.

Game of Thrones is more story-driven that action-driven. Keep that in mind and it'll make it a little easier to watch because it is very slow. Usually the second to last episode is the most action-driven episode for some reason. I remember season 4 being the most action-driven season so far, there was finally some battles in it. Which I kinda missed from the start. Great set up for epic battles but they seem to choose not to show much of their wars but to go storywise about the characters and families.

Now I'm sure the second tv-movie of Columbo was not aired and if it did by now, I probably missed it. The tv-movie was aired on a different channel and the other channel that is airing the episodes started from Murder By The Book. The last two were good too. Suitable For Framing had even the lady from Harry's Will who asks for Cody's recipe. She had that same high voice and I think it was her. And Lady In Waiting even starred Leslie Nielsen in a more serious role. Now if Nielsen and Falk only had appeared in a comedy of their own. biggrin.gif

In the meantime, I did manage to catch the second tv-movie on television. Oddly enough shortly after my last message here. It was called Ransom for a Dead Man, in which a woman covers up the murder of her husband and pretends he has been kidnapped. So I'm currently all the way with Columbo and I can start on season 2.

I saw the pilot episode of Defenders last night and it was okay. Plays out a lot like the individual shows of the characters. Have to admit though that i did expect a little more.

For some reason, it was decided to not air season 4 of Columbo. They went from season 3 to season 5.

Last week Under The Dome was aired and I've seen five episodes so far. I heard first season was great and second season sucked but as usual opinions and reviews often differs from mine. It was a great start. The show also starred Ned Bellamy as the priest. Tonight the next five episodes will be aired.

Congrats! Wow! I still have a long way to go laugh.gif

The first Season for "Under the Dome" was great. I think it had potential, but they could have ended it after one Season (of maybe 22 instead of 13 episodes). Season 2 was okay, but I think they kinda lost the plot in Season 3. Didn't know when to stop, as it happens often with TV shows.

I just watched the pilot for the "Hawaii Five-0" Reboot. It's quite good, although too much guns and violence for my taste. I mean you can do with less for a police- or crime-show, but I guess they had to up the stakes a bit for a pilot.

But there really are a LOT of little things that were used for the MacGyver Reboot as well - and I can say this after only watching the pilot blink.gif

Also, the plot is basically what they used for the Unaired MacGyver Reboot Pilot (the male main hero is asked by a woman to build a new task force that's a bit different than the others).

A bit late to the party. I have always wanted to watch it but never had the time to slot it in and fnally saw the pilot last night.

So the basic plot?
Big time lawyer Harvey Spencer's firm is in dire need of a new associate but none of the applicants even raise an eyebrow except for college dropout Mike Ross. Even more so, Ross is not even a lawyer! But there is something special about this new associate. With an ability to go through tons of research in a few hours and memorize anything makes this man a prodigy in the law field. However no one knows that Ross isnt a lawyer and Spencer keeps that secret.

If you have never seen the show, i highly recommend it. It has wits, quirky dialogue to keep it interesting and likable characters. And it got me from the get go. Any show that does that usually gets my 2 thumbs up.

Under The Dome was great. I'm really curious to that second season. Right now I'm watching Kingdom Hospital by Stephen King. I found it on a flea market. But this is really from back when television was not as great as cinema. I don't know any of the actors at all. It's not exactly bad but you can clearly taste tv-quality and it's not exactly horror either. This is more like a supernatural thriller mixed with drama and exaggerated humor.

Still watching Columbo here every now and than. Boy, the guest stars are piling up: Leonard Nimoy, Martin Sheen. You know how creepy a young Martin Sheen is? The resemblances with his sons and I think Charlie Sheen in particular is downright scary. Martin has got like the clarity of Emilio Estevez' face combined with the eyes of Charlie. Not to mention the way he walks and talks... all the things you find back in Charlie.

Anyhoo, now I get to the good part because in one of the latest episodes I have seen starred Donald Pleasance and... *drum roll ffffffrrrrrr ttttiiiiissshhh* Dana Elcar. Though his part was rather minor. He was to join Pleansance to a conference of wine in New York and had to decide if he would become Man of the Year. In the beginning he had a few scenes with several lines and about three quarters in the episode he kindly offered Columbo a pencil, but also asked it back. Little did he probably know he would ever star in MacGyver as Pete Thornton. He was clearly younger than in MacGyver, about 12 years but already bald on top but a little longer hair in the back, not much. If you care to see it look for episode: Any Old Port in a Storm. To what I've read on the review it was one of Peter Falk's favourite episodes. The whole restaurant set up and the fit Pleasance throws there was rather funny. Two actors of great franchises in one: Dr. Loomis and Pete, that was like twice the fun.

Also in one of the episodes I've noticed the guy from Passages behind the computer. 'You're not on the manifest.'

I finally got around to watching Narcos on Netflix.

For those that don't know, Narcos is the story of the illegal drug trade in Colombia focusing on the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar brilliantly played by Wagner Moura. Show is already in its third season but i have enjoyed what i have seen so far. It's a gritty show and tells a hard story that is tainted with censorship especially on what is told and what isn't. 4 stars from me.

Just finished Kingdom Hospital. A tv-show from the early 2000's but a real poor one written by Stephen King based on Lars Von Triers Danish show The Kingdom. It took me nearly three weeks to finish the 13 episodes. It was incoherent most of the time and didn't find the balance between drama, suspense and comedy. The drama was spot on but then it got lost between suspense and comedy. Pity, this series was partly autobiographic for Stephen King due to his accident but this was such a miss. Don't waste your time on it unless you want to go look for Mac-actors. There are 5 of them and I missed two.

Still grazing through Columbo. Last one was good called Identity Crisis with special guest star: Leslie Nielsen. This was his second guest appearance in the show. He was playing a spy who gets killed by his superior and Columbo has to solve the case again. It looks like Columbo speaks fluently Italian. It was already hinted on his Italian roots in one episode but now for the first time he spoke Italian. There was this scene in which he spoke Italian with a man and they went all Italian in mannerisms. On his way out Columbo asked if he could take some more grapes and the other guy gave a handful of blue and white grapes and he was going like: 'Nooooooooo, it's too much.' It was a good episode.

Another great episode of Columbo written by Brad Radnitz. In A Matter Of Honor Columbo is on vacation in Mexico when a famous matador kills one of his men and Columbo is requested by the Mexican captain to help in the case. Starring Ricardo Montalban and a young A. Martinez.

I love Colombo! For that matter, I love all those 70's shows. We just finished watching Kolchak, the early 70s series from CBS about the newspaper reporter that tools around in the mid 60's Mustang with a scanner hard wired to the underside of the dash. It's an innocent kind of fun!

Posted by: MacGyverGod 11 October 2017 - 02:44 AM
Columbo started kinda of slow but since the last few episodes of the second season most episode are pretty well paced despite the lack of spectacle, gunfights or fist fights. For some reason season 4 was not aired here because there was a reference in this episode about a murder he solved on a cruise in less then a day or something. But you really got to pay attention to what's happening though because Columbo catches his killer on mistakes, even the smallest tiniest mistake and sometimes I wonder what it was but still a very good show.

Last night we decided to give the new Dynasty a watch.

Loosely based on the original show of the 1980's this new incarnation follows the lives of the Carringtons.

Its not the original. Lets put it there. But its also aimed at a younger audience and its full of todays forms of drama. Its...okay...

Posted by: Barry Rowland 25 October 2017 - 08:34 PM
I don't know if you could ever have the chemistry of the actors/actresses of the originals. I really don't know if you can ever go back....

Posted by: MacGyverGod 26 October 2017 - 04:01 AM
When it's over, it's over. Can't go back to redo it all. Somethings just happen once in life. You can try to get it back but it will never be the same. Interesting is though that also Dallas was restarted. Don't know if it's a reboot or a continuation but by now it has reached his third or fourth season so there must be something they're doing right.

I don't know. If it's done properly, but what is properly? You can put as much work in it as you like, sometimes it just doesn't work no matter how hard you try. They gotta learn to leave well enough alone.

Of course there is perhaps one major exception... actually the one I'm watching: Columbo. And I'm still curious about why it is, but I want to see the show first. Columbo had 7 seasons in the 70's, yet they decided to continue the show in 1989 after an 11-year break. Maybe they were lucky Peter Falk was still alive and he was willing to do more episodes over a longer period of time. Last few episodes I've seen again showed a few familiar names. Now I just found out the episodes are not exactly shown in order. Not that it matters because they are stand alone episodes. But these episodes where shown in this order: Murder: A Self Portrait which was written by Robert Sherman. Sex and the Married Detective was written by Jerry Ludwig and starred Peter Jurasik (Charlie Alden) in a minor role. The last episode I've seen was Grand Deceptions. An opening sequence similar (almost identical) to that of The Wall episode. Toy soldiers on a battlefield and it makes me wonder if it's not the exact same model we saw in The Wall. The model of the battlefield of Gettysburg. First thing I was thinking about was The Wall's theme song when the episode started. Maybe it was the same model and brought it over to Paramount for The Wall episode. Getting more and more curious on what's in store for the 90's episodes.

Posted by: denizen 26 October 2017 - 05:09 AM
Dynasty is a total reboot. There are a few nods to the original.

It follows a similar path and ill be honest, its nothing like the original. It kind of reminds me of MacGyver in a way because its done the same way. But if you're not comparing it to the original, it might just take to your liking. If you are into this kind of show.

Dallas reboot lasted for 3 seasons and then was cancelled. Unfortunately when Larry Hagman passed on during season 2 it could not sustain its audience. After all, he was the only JR. And yes it was an actual continuation ignoring the reunion movie/s.

Last episode was called Columbo Cries Wolf co-starring Alan Scarfe. In my opinion one of the better. I always wondered when there will be an episode like this. An episode in which he's been taken advantage of or made a fool of or can't solve the case. This episode had an interesting twist though but of course he wouldn't be Columbo if he can't solve the case.

Started to watch The A-Team now, also recorded from television. Unfortunately they didn't air season 5 for some reason. Already seen a couple of familiar faces: Alan Fudge, Richard Romanus, Don Stroud and Kristen Meadows (and she was hot by the way). I can also see some similarities with MacGyver, like escaping out of jams, even making something out of nothing. Somethings just seemed like copied out the A-Team for MacGyver. The ultra light airplane? Seriously? In the first season when the A-Team is in Borneo (or was it Guatemala?) they have to evacuate a wounded man by making an ultra light airplane. Seven years later this is done by MacGyver in Colombia. Coincidence? Copied? What the A-Team does, I do not consider MacGyverisms yet, they mostly reinforce stuff by armoring cars or trucks and create a lot of brouhaha around it while MacGyverisms are mostly science but I'm only in the beginning of season 2 yet. The last episode I've seen did remind me a bit of The Road Not Taken as Face's ex-girlfriend sends him a letter to bring the A-Team to Ecuador to rescue the orphanage from a bunch of bad guys that seeked refugee there when their leader is healing from a gunshot wound. An orphanage, an ex-girlfriend who became a nun... There is probably more like that, that might look similar but I don't think the creators of MacGyver did those things intentionally. Both from different studios and I think you really had to have seen an episode on tv to know what the other guy is doing. But the ultra light airplane was the most noticeable. A two seater, even the reddish look was the same. The A-Team also seems to favor the use of duct tape. On the other hand they also seem to be favoring the use of heavy artillery in public areas. They're not just bringing pistols but there are scenes where they take out rifles out of the back of the van. In an episode set in New York they throw grenades and empty their rifles in a public street and in the last episode I've seen Hannibal sitting on a chair behind an armor, firing two rifles in an orphanage. In like every episode they fight out their own little wars, yet they never kill anybody. Interesting though to see another show that seems to take place all around the world like MacGyver and in very different countries too.

Posted by: denizen 14 November 2017 - 08:19 PM
A-Team was fun. Apparently George Peppard was a real pain in the butt. Never got on with anyone. Demanding actor and he constantly feuded with Mr. T. He was even up for the role of Blake Carrington in Dynasty but after he started complaining of how his character should be during production, they "Fired" him and replaced him with John Forsythe.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 15 November 2017 - 08:14 AM
I heared something like that. At one point George Peppard and Mr. T. where communicating through letters delivered by other cast members or something. I'll dig into that when I'm done watching.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 16 November 2017 - 04:35 AM
Yes, they were. Besides, did you notice Murdock is wearing the same shirt in a couple of season 1 episodes as Mac wore in the Pilot episode? Meanwhile familiar faces keep piling up. In the last episode it was Lance LeGault, Charles Napier, John Vernon (bad guy of Rambo part II who was also named Murdock and Reyerson from the Gauntlet teams up). This was currently the best episode I have seen. While they're on the run for Colonel Decker, they hide in a little town where the people are being oppressed by the richest man in town. Sort of like the Bitter Harvest episode. Farmers and fieldworkers who are being treated unfairly and have to give in their money and food and the A-Team has to organize a union to protect the workers. Also among the farmers was actress Penny Peyser. Six years younger than in The Battle of Tommy Giordano but still as cute as she was. It was Mary Ruth. Couple of great van stunts too on their chases. Also the other episode I've seen The Taxicab Wars was among the better episodes with Michael Ironside and Herman The German as guest stars.

I just found season 1 of 'Get Smart'. It's the antithesis of MacGyver. He's ridiculous, idiotic, stupid, has bouts of 'senior moments' at the most inopportune times, and the only time his improvisations work is when he accidentally trips them. It's also well written and funny as hell. The sets are meticulously filled with curious, artifacts, and (now 50 years on) antiques. Don Adams' is hilarious! I recommend this to all MacGyver fans if only for the contrasts of the theatrical secret agent world.

The A-Team is going great. They have good episodes and the faces and now also location keeps piling up. There was an episode they destroyed the military base from Obsessed. I saw the house of the Bennett's from The Prodigal and I think I saw the cave entrance from Good Knight MacGyver but I'm not sure. The cave entrance might as well been the same of the Power Rangers. Robert Donner and Marshall Teague has guest starred in some episodes. In the Marshall Teague episode they put up an Irish pub in like 5 mins. It's amazing what the A-Team can do in a day. Setting up a fully functional, decorated pub with fresh painted walls, tables, chairs, bar and booze. These guys should've have their own construction company, don't you think?

Still a lot of episodes seems the same. They get called to help someone out, there's a first fight, they construct something: mostly armoring cars, bit of shooting, car stunt, a second fight, bad guys are defeated, episode ends. Currently I'd give the A-Team a third place in my top 3. Guess what's on number one, closely followed by Magnum? There's not one episode that has really jumped out or that blew me away but of course it's nice to see familiar faces. Last night I saw another two episodes. One that seemed based on Split Decision where B.A. has to box (also notice the big guy from Bitter Harvest in a cameo) and one episode based on Black Rhino. The A-Team are going after poachers in Kenia with another interesting face... Aunt Viv from the Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

Lots of shows are formulaic. Its a method they can relate to.And while lots of people have got something to say about it (More nowadays than before, i think), they still had that fan-base.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 7 December 2017 - 11:01 AM
I think it's probably one those of parts of the formula that seems recurring in several other shows even if it's just episode titles like: The Enemy Within, There But For The Grace (Of God) or Squeeze Play.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 8 December 2017 - 08:47 AM
While going through The A-Team, I've been saving up some episodes of Columbo but for some reason it didn't record the episode last Saturday. I still have like 10 unseen ones though. Another great one I've seen last night: again Marshall Teague shows up but the biggest and best surprise until now was. This episode starred James Read(!!) whom we all know as George Hazard from North and South. Read played a dentist who is on the verge of losing his dentist office he runs along his in-laws and ends up killing his wife's lover trying to put the blame on her.

Seriously, I'm telling you, with so many things set in Los Angeles, I'm surprised there haven't been more crossovers. Imagine if MacGyver saw the A-Team van passing through the street or read about them in the newspaper or when he calls the cops he doesn't end up with Rhome or Murphy or Kiley but gets Columbo on the phone or maybe even Riggs and Murtaugh... That would've been so hilarious.

Still going through the A-Team and occassionally Columbo. By starting at the fifth and final season of the A-Team, the series has taken a very interesting and unexpected turn with the introduction of General Stockwell who seems eager to recrute the team for his own ends. In the last (several) episodes of season 4 the show really felt it was running out of steam and a major change was requiered and they more than adequately solved it with the biggest bang they made so far to start their last season. It was finally about to happen: The A-Team caught and having to face the consequences for the crime they didn't commit in a court martial. It seemed there was no way out this time and they made one of the best episodes in the entire series if not even the best. If you ever get to watch it, keep an eye out to David Ackroyd who plays the lawyer for the military.

Columbo has been great also. Latest episode I have seen guest starred Don S. Davis and Michael Gregory. It was real cool to see General Hammond and Whitecloud in an episode but they don't share scenes though. Michael Gregory played a loan shark who wanted his money back from the killer in that episode. Meanwhile the killer tries to figure out a way to get the money from his rich uncle who owns an American Football team but there is somebody else who has plans for the both of them. That episode also contained one of the most spectacular scenes I have ever seen in Columbo.

Another great episode was Columbo attending the wedding of his nephew and ends up in a kidnapping case when the bride gets kidnapped right from under their noses.

I finally finished The A-Team. I got to admit that the final intended episode The Grey Team was one of the worst ones I have ever seen. But just as with MacGyver another episode was aired much later and is probably the lost episode. The episode was called Without Reservations in which Murdoc, Face and Frankie Santana are held hostage in a restaurant. Anyway, I can conlude that season 5 is my favorite season, although I think the first three episodes could've been great a series finale. If they would just have met General Stockwell some other way and in the end turned against him that would result in their arrest and trial but in a surprising twist they would get their pardons thanks to Amy Allen. That would've been great. I think the series ended a bit in a let down but this was mostly due to low ratings. Still the season features a few familiar faces like Geno Silva, Soon Teck-Oh (in a similar role as in Murderers' Sky) and Richard Romanus.

Personally, I recently discovered Hogan’s Heroes, probably 40 years after every other fan. It’s about a guy, called Hogan, who is the leader of a sabotage and esipionage underground run out of a POW camp in Nazi Germany. I’ve seen some fans of the show write crossover fics with Macgyver before.

Besides that, My Little Pony has been good. And that made me feel awkward to write... I’m not that old... am I? If you haven’t heard, It’s a show. About ponies. That I want to crossover with Macgyver, just because I can. Riley and Twilight? Jack and Rainbow? Macgyver and Applejack? The list goes on...

And finally, I’m waiting for Netflix to get a new season of Death in Paradise. This show is someone is murdered and smart detectives must solve the case. It’s brilliant. And would be great as a macgyver crossover.

That’s about it for shows I’m following. And now you know my train of thought. (Note to self, what would the emotions be like in macgyvers head? Which would be in charge? Why?)

(If you can’t tell, Inside Out.)

Welcome to the forums, Ingoma! And don't worry, I LOVE Inside Out! biggrin.gif

Let's see... Mac would probably be a mixture of Joy and Sadness, because of his tough past. Jack and Penny would be mostly Joy. Murdoc would be Anger, some Sadness, and maybe a touch of Fear.

Over in the Top Tens discussion in the Houseboat, another user (Sanguine) and I have been talking about My Little Pony and MacGyver. You're definitely not alone! wink.gif

Currently following Grounded For Life.

Sean and Claudia are both 32 years old and are raising three kids. Their oldest child, Lily is 14 years old so Sean and Claudia became parents at the age of 18, right after high school graduation. Because of that they had to give up a lot of freedom of their lives they keep yearning for at their current age and still live quite immature. They act like they're still 22 and don't have kids, however it's like reality has them... Grounded For Life. tongue.gif Sean is not the brightest guy but he means well even though he does pull off a few stunts that might get him arrested and doesn't exactly teach his kids about responsibility. Sean is more like the kind of guy, you would meet on a heavy metal festival but in his own way he does his best to raise his kids. He's married to Claudia, a sight for sore eyes as her looks don't go unnoticed by Sean's brother Eddie who seems to have it in for her. Claudia supports Sean most of the time but has her own ways of talking to her kids. Eddie sees himself as a gangster but is mostly doing nothing with his life except visiting Sean's house and living from his fridge. Lily desperately tries to get attention from both her parents by acting like a rebel and exaggerating the consequences of her actions. Walt is Sean's and Eddie's father, who looks down upon Sean for the ways he tries to raise his children and thinks of himself he was a better father to his kids. Jimmy and Henry are Sean's two youngest kids living in a world of their own trying to understand the situations that takes place in their house.

This is not your regular family-oriented sitcom. Sean and Claudia are not exactly rolemodels as parents. They wanna be young and hip and cool, probably as a compensation for the years they missed being that. But I think that gives them a rather open way of communication even though they don't always understand the situation. The episodes are told in flashback way. The characters tell each other what happened, how it happened and how it got worse.

The humor is a little more daring but this was the early 2000's and no longer the 80's or 90's. The show lasted for five seasons and with 91 episodes, I don't think it made the impact some other sitcoms did in the decades before. I don't know what I actually think of it for now, since I've only been watching 5 episodes. I think a full opinion will form later on.

I just discovered "Scorpion". It is about a team of geniuses that work together with Cabe, an agent from Homeland Security to fix things when situations go wrong. There is Sylvester, a human calculator with photographic memory, Happy, a mechanical engineer, Walter, a hacker with a 197 IQ, Toby, a profiler/doctor and Paige, a"normal" woman that works with them as well. They are always building things out of whatever they find around them to get them out of trouble (MacGyverisms?)

Yeah, Scorpion is one of the many CBS shows that takes place in the same universe as the MacGyver reboot. They should do a cross-over. Although I've never really gotten into Scorpion, I'd just like to see that happen.

I have started watching Marvel's The Inhumans and at first was not sure what to make of it. But its really growing on me.

So what's it about?

Black Bolt, the head of the Inhuman royal family and King of Attilan, who all live on the moon possesses a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy an entire city.

But after a military coup attacks the family, the group which includes Black Bolt's wife, Medusa; his brother and rival, Maximus, cousins and Medusa's sister, Crystal manage to escape to Hawaii, where interactions with theworld and humans around them prove to not only save them, but Earth itself.

It didnt do much for me while i saw the first 2 episodes but from there it really picked up. For something a little different, give it a go.

I recently started watching it as well, now that they started airing Season 1 again.

I'm not that invested in it and the characters, but it's a nice show to watch after work. Pretty standard CBS episodic team show, I guess. It's not too bad if you miss an episode every now and then.

I've been on a Fullmetal Alchemist binge. Netflix released both versions of the anime because the live action movie is being released on Netflix on Feb. 19th.

I've watched both before, but they're so good. For those unfamiliar, Fullmetal Alchemist isn't for little kids. It's got a lot of humor, but it's also very dark and messed up sometimes. It's a good balance though. Brotherhood is definitely my favorite of the two.

In the past week I've finally started on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. The original show that spun off Xena Warrior Princess. I guess most of us will know the show. Though preceded by five tv-movies, only the first two seasons were released in Belgium for some reason. Guess Xena was just even more popular. Hercules seems lighter though. Two guys fighting on the side of good while Xena were two women trying to keep each other in balance. Now I have just seen the episode where Xena makes her very first appearance, though Lucy Lawless had guest starred before. Pretty much the same deal as with MacGyver I guess as also in Xena several actors returned in the different roles. The first episode started rather cheesy but the show quickly found it's footing. It's also different than Xena. Just like Xena I expected Hercules and Iolaus to be together in every episode but Hercules seems to be travelling on his own most of the time while Iolaus shows up every now and then. Further it's quite obvious that Hercules and Xena are amongst the first shows (if not the first) to have used CGI effects since Hercules fights with monsters and both of them meets creatures like centaurs. It's a fun and lighter show than Xena who prefers to switch various genres. Unfortunately the later seasons and tv-movies were never released here. If there is one reason for me to get the later episodes is that Xena makes more appearances in Hercules after her evil days. Her appearances in Hercules' first season are meant as a bridge and start for her own series, which might explain the beginning of Xena's pilot episode a little more.

Posted by: denizen 18 February 2018 - 08:48 PM
Watching Xena or Hercules nowadays is a little cheesy but its fun if you like that sort of thing. Strangely its also one of the few franchises where it's spin off was more successful than its original show. Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and the team developed the shows which is why Ted Raimi appears so often as well as long time friend/ composer Joseph LoDuca.

Later on they went on to produce Legend of the Seeker, Ash Vs the Evil Dead and Spartacus (A show i recently acquired but have yet to see it).

I am still watching Star Trek The Next Generation and currently on Season 6. Recently saw the 2 parter Chain of Command which was quite good. Ronny Cox appears as a captain who is instructed by Starfleet to take over the role of captain on the Enterprise while Picard is put on a covert mission to infiltrate a Cardassian threat. Things are made very uncomfortable for the crew as the new captains methods are more military based than they have known and Picard is ultimately captured and tortured.

It was fresh to see these episodes as they are very unorthodox in comparison to the usual episodes but highly recommended!

Yes, it is. Both Hercules as Xena are set in the fantasy genre and it was the beginning for Weta Digital. Of course a centaur looks silly now, or any other monster that was used but at that time it was top notch. Now it may look like those cheesy syfy and asylum movies. Though last time I saw Xena, it didn't bother me much, maybe it's because I had never seen Hercules before until now. Hercules fights with more monsters then Xena did. You're more bound to run into a centaur than into a three headed monster when it comes to Xena and Xena was indeed more popular and a lot darker too. The first action show to feature two female leads and probably the only one since. But just like with Hercules it doesn't take itself serious, even the real dramatic episodes.

It was indeed developed by the team of Evil Dead. After all Sam Raimi, Ted Raimi, Rob Tapert, Joseph LoDuca and Bruce Campbell were all friends in college. That's how Evil Dead became to be. Bunch of freshly graduates trying to make the coolest horror movie they could with what they had. And though their cooperations seems rare, I'm glad they're still doing it. Spartacus and Ash vs. Evil Dead are great examples for that. To be honest when I first saw Spartacus, I always figured: that's how Xena should've been. A show like Xena would've done great on HBO. Though, I liked Xena's campiness. It's versatile, Xena could be silly or dead serious and the switch in episode genres was also a very welcome thing. It kept me guessing what kind of episode I would get. As a kid I was hoping for comedies. Some episodes are pretty dark and as a 10-11 year old Xena still could've been a little frightening sometimes. It's clearly meant for an older audience.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 22 March 2018 - 06:17 AM
So I finished Hercules and started on Xena Warrior Princess. It's pretty clear which one is better. Hercules was fun and light but sometimes maybe a bit repetitive. Of course it's fun to see Hercules and Iolaus fight on the same side while Xena can be tempted to switch sides. That's what gives Xena more depth as a character. Also Gabrielle has her attraction in how she started as a good natured farm girl with a silly side, yet very different from Iolaus who seemed to have a great sense of humor. Anyway, now I'm on Xena and plenty of other shows, I guess watching the MacGyver reboot is set on hold for a while.

I have the Xena series. Its cheesy but I love it. biggrin.gif

Posted by: MacGyverGod 23 March 2018 - 03:19 AM
I think that's alright. Xena don't rely much on CGI-effects as Hercules did. After all it is about 'ancient gods, warlords and kings.' biggrin.gif

Now I have just seen the Xena/Hercules crossover episode: Prometheus. Which was kinda of fun to see them together. I think it wouldn't have hurt to have them crossover a little more. Xena has at least five episodes as Xena in Hercules, while Hercules only shows up twice in Xena just as Iolaus. That episode did have a CGI bird though and Hera is always nice to see to, even though it's just a pair of eyes in the sky. She sees all.

Decided to watch a couple of Simpsons episodes and even did an onscreen comparison to see how it has evolved. I actually put in an episode from Season 2 way back from 1990 and compared it to a Season 19 episode from 2008 and was quite surprised at how little it has changed. In a good way, i mean. The images still look animated in an old fashioned way but are much brighter and clearer. The movement is MUCH smoother (No doubt due to it being done on computer) and even the voices are the same. Already Simpsons is on Season 28 and still going strong. Truly incredible.

Here is my salute to the Simpsons!

Posted by: MacGyverGod 5 April 2018 - 06:11 AM
Tonight on... MacGyver, MacGyver, MacGyver, MacGyver. laugh.gif

I think I sort of grew out of The Simpsons actually. I have the first season on dvd and a Halloween Special dvd and a couple of comics, but it really don't say much to me anymore. I follow them on Facebook still. Amazing though they got 28 seasons. I still hope they make it to 30.

Meanwhile I'm 30 episodes far with Xena. Looks like I've seen 22 episodes in the past week and a half. And haven't seen a real bad one yet. The episodes with Callisto were amongst the best. She was like the Murdoc from that show. Defeated but always comes back for more.

Posted by: denizen 5 April 2018 - 08:07 PM
I agree. The Callisto episodes were fun. Hudson Leick (Actress who plays her) is a real life yoga instructor if i recall.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 6 April 2018 - 11:19 AM
Never followed them much after Xena but I actually should. Interesting to know, Callisto as yoga instructor... Funny how the most evil characters are like the nicest persons in real life. She has been studying yoga for 16 years and has been teaching for 13.

Last night I saw the episode Intimate Stranger, in which Xena and Callisto switch roles. Xena becomes Callisto and Callisto becomes Xena and therefore Lucy Lawless plays a villainous role and Hudson Leick becomes Xena and plays the hero. A nice switch. They even taken over each others battle cries: Hudson Leick actually does her version of: "lalalalalalala" while Lucy Lawless screeches like Hudson. Imagine Murdoc becomes MacGyver and MacGyver becomes Murdoc. That episode in my opinion is one of the most solid episodes of that season and is very action driven. I remember that Callisto was supposed to have a trilogy of episodes, but for some reason it never happened. Yet Callisto shows up in more episodes and I think she even fills in for Lucy Lawless after she broke her hip on a failed stunt in the Jay Leno show. But I think they switched a couple of episodes to cover up for Lawless' absence. Anyway, Intimate Stranger is good episode and written by actually my favorite writer (sorry RJ Stewart) Steven L. Sears. To me he's like the John Sheppard of the Xena series. Writing mostly the more mature and serious episodes with exception of one comedy episode. RJ Stewart makes a very close second. He wrote the most episodes with a total of 24 with serious and lighter episodes but also marks a few milestones in the show.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 13 April 2018 - 06:32 AM
And finished season 2 of Xena and started on 3. Couple of good ones in the last half of season 2. Xena's 2nd death experience in the episode Destiny also starring a young Karl Urban, who also showed up in the first season alongside David Ackroyd (Trumbo). Urban also shows up as Cupid near the end of the season. Also season 2 of Xena has an episode called Blind Faith, in which Xena ends up blind after she got sprayed by sumac by accident during a fight. One of the better episodes but still with a touch of comedy in.

But I think the best episode of that season was The Price. Another Steven L. Sears written episode and I think one of the darkest of that season. Xena and Gabrielle find a dying soldier who fought with the Horde, suddenly surrounded Xena and Gabrielle escape on a kano down the river, finding more dying soldiers crucified and are being watched by the Horde. They find a nearly defeated army in an desolate outpost and Xena quickly takes command. Triggered by the barbaric fighting method of the Horde Xena goes into surviving mode becoming a fierce and fearless leader who will do whatever it takes to take out the Horde, even if it means dying herself and dragging Gabrielle with her. This behaviour scares Gabrielle so much who tries to stop Xena of becoming the monster she once was but nearly fails in doing so.

This is actually one of the first episodes that astonished me in how quickly Xena can reset herself and become the Warrior Princess. In Destiny she was this foolish pirate who turns into a fearless, merciless warrior later in life. The Price shows the progress she made and how easy it is to forget that while dear Gabrielle has to watch that. Definitely one of the best.

Xena was always a fun show. Campy, but fun. But, I like campy. XD

I started watching the reboot of Lost in Space on Netflix over the weekend. It's not bad. It got a Mass Effect vibe to it. In fact, Robot looks a LOT like the Geth from Mass Effect even. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm hoping there will be a second season.

As a recommendation, I've been watching a show called Love. It's supposed to be a romantic comedy that is a "down to earth" take on modern relationships. It IS very adult, so I wouldn't watch it around kids. It has a lot of swearing and sex scenes. Also, some of the scenarios that cause havoc in the relationship of lead couple can be a bit ridiculous. Other than that, it's funny and relatable. I'm actually almost done with this series as it's only three seasons and hasn't been renewed.

I also started an Anime called Violet Evergarden. Animation is spot on, but I haven't gotten far enough in to form a opinion yet.

Posted by: Dragondog 16 April 2018 - 09:50 AM
I was just going to ask if anyone has seen the Lost in Space reboot yet. I saw a few episodes, including the Season finale, but I won't spoil it. tongue.gif

Been revisiting the Adventures in Rainbow Country series. Watched this as a kid and loved it for it's ourdoorsy-ness and adventure. Nowadays, I see a lot of similarities with MacGyver and probably was a prerequisite for getting hooked on it ... i.e. accommodations, jeeps, good cinematography with apt score, clean living people with morals and integrity up tp snuff, love the opening music (maybe better than MacGyver) too.

And made it into season 4 of Xena. Season 3 has some of the series best episodes like The Deliverer, The Debt, Maternal Instinct and Sacrifice. With The Deliverer the story arc that is known amongst fans as The Rift begins but also the Dahak/Hope story arc. Xena and Gabrielle's relationship is being put to the test. They both lied about things they did and Gabrielle betrays Xena in China. Interesting to know is that the two-parter The Debt was initially meant as a feature film. But the studio refused to back it up, so it became a two-parter instead.

When I saw this for the first time, it was also a first to me to see a show handle a major storyline through the season varied with a couple of stand alone episodes like their comedies and serious ones like One Against and Army. Unfortunately some episodes on Dahak and Hope also takes place in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Hercules has a two-parter taking place between Xena's episode Maternal Instinct and Bitter Suite. I think there are about 17 episodes in total on Dahak and Hope, 7 of which takes place in Hercules and where in Xena of course guest stars. Not to mention other episodes that concerns The Rift. Pity again, Hercules was never fully released because in Sacrifice Callisto and Ares talks about events happening in Hercules. This is after all a shared universe. Sacrifice is the third season's finale (another two-parter), to me as a kid it was again unseen. The cliffhanger they pull off was like: wow, they would never do or even allow this on MacGyver. It's the only season finale that involves all five important characters: Xena, Gabrielle, Joxer, Ares and Callisto. And they had to change the ending into what it is now as part of the ending had leaked online.

Season 4 begins where 3 has left off and delves deeper into Xena's past in her warlord days and her meeting a new nemesis named Alti, a shamaness who can see the future and use dark forces and psychology on her victims. From here on out the series also grows darker and more serious in matters, which I only cheer on and actually with some research you can find the necessary episodes that can form one major storyline over the course of the show as the Rift and the Dahak/Hope evolves into a possible fate for both Xena and Gabrielle, Xena's pregnancy and the Twilight of the Gods and Xena's ultimate demise. Or simply called the key episodes. God, I love this show.

I'm currently in the last season of Grounded For Life. The show ran out of steam about halfway the fourth season if not longer. Though it was never really funny at all, it's been going downhill for quite a while now. Some moments are funny but it's not like I'm rofl'ing. Guess I'll finish it with the few episodes that are still going to be aired. Just a shame that Richard Riehle became a recurring character after season 2, then again his filmography is massive. Also the Finnerty's youngest son Henry has disappeared after season 4, this due to the kid actor moved away from Hollywood. But this has become something to see, if nothing else is on.

Started watching both The Rain & Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency on Netflix.
The Rain is a Danish show about a virus that is carried in the rain and slowly starts to affect anyone caught in it. Protected from the harmful phenomenon, 2 siblings safely hiding in a bunker for 6 years emerge to discover that civilization is gone except for a group of survivors they join to find hope.
This is quite an effective show and keeps you in to see what happens next.

Then off to Dirk Gently based on the Douglas Adams book.

Just heard that Clayne Crawford is fired from the Lethal Weapon tv-series after a couple of incidents on the set involving safety matters. One of which he felt that it wasn't safe and clinched with the director another one was when Damon Wayans get injured on an episode Crawford was directing himself. Crawford has said he regretted the incidents and wishes everyone well. The show will however get a third season and Seann William Scott will be brought in to play Riggs' brother.

I actually attempted to watch The Rain and Dark, I didn't like either one. Not that they were bad, just had a hard time following them. I did like Residue though... sadly, it's only three episodes, with no information on if it's going to continue or not.

It does star Iwan Rheon and Natalia Tena, who played Ramsay Bolton and Osha from Game of Thrones. It's kinda odd to see them as a couple in Residue. XD

I'm currently watching One Punch Man and Attack on Titan. I have a lot of Anime to catch up on. lol

Season finale of Supernatural was... unexpected. Dang it... that show. dry.gif

And this is where the show goes downhill. I doubt it will be renewed for season 4, but we'll see how it goes.

Jedi: I saw episode 2 of The Rain last night and it was so good! You should give it another try. thumbsup.gif

It reminds me of Fallout meets the Walking Dead.

I have started watching Cobra Kai. For those of you that don't know what it is, it is the official continuation of the original Karate Kid.

Set almost 30 years after the original's events the story now focuses on Johnny Lawrence seeking redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai dojo to help out a kid who is bullied at school however this decision reignites his rivalry with a now successful Daniel LaRusso.

If you ever enjoyed the Karate Kid, this is a must see!

I've been binging Penny Dreadful the past week or so.

It's rather good. Took me until today to figure out that Ethan Chandler is portrayed by Josh Hartnett. I completely forgot he even existed! I remember he was big a while back and then just disappeared from acting.

Needless to say, I enjoy the show. Definitely for mature audiences though. It's pretty graphic in both sex and violence. Other than that, it's very well acted and very interesting.

Though, I'm pretty sure the Winchesters would have the entire issue fixed within an episode. They just need the Colt and witch killing bullets. Maybe a machete. lol

Halo is finally coming to TV. Showtime has announced a series pickup for a live-action adaptation of the epic Xbox game franchise (under the working title of "Halo"), with Kyle Killen (Awake) serving as executive producer, writer, and showrunner. Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt will helm multiple episodes and also executive produce.

The scripted drama will feature 10 hour-long episodes in its first season, and is expected to begin production in early 2019. According to Showtime, the adaptation of Halo "will take place in the universe that first came to be in 2001, dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future."

I wish I was a bigger Halo fan. But I may check it out simply because it wasn't the story I had a problem with. I just didn't enjoy playing the game. lol

I started watching Sword Art Online. Within the first episode, I got a massive Final Fantasy XIV vibe from it. I haven't gotten far in it, but it's pretty good. It's interesting. It's like if you were in a VR Final Fantasy game and can't get out unless you beat the game. Also if you die in the game, or someone attempts to remove you from the gear in real life, you die.

I was like... that's a bit extreme. XD

Yeah, my guy friend recommended it to me. He watches a lot of Anime and LOVES Final Fantasy to the point I'm pretty sure he's an addict. XD

I just finished watching a show on Netflix called Kiss Me First.

It's a SciFi Thriller about a group of people that meet up in a popular VR game, but there's something more going on. It's rather good, I thought. There are currently on six episodes, and it is a bit adult with some nudity and sex scenes. Seems to be the norm on Netflix now. lol But I thought it was interesting.

Courtesy of HBO, I guess.

This however looks like Ready Player One has been made into a tv-show.

I've heard that comparison before actually. I haven't seen Ready Player One yet though. But if it's anything like Kiss Me First, I'll probably like it.

The mature factor doesn't bother me really, but it's more of a warning for those who may be bothered by it.

Gone are the family shows.

Dragondog: My son strangely enjoys watching Ladybug as he calls it. biggrin.gif

Posted by: MacGyverGod 9 July 2018 - 02:55 AM
Then don't watch them with the family. I'm usually not bothered with the mature factor at all either or else I wouldn't have been watching Spartacus or Game of Thrones. As a matter of fact ever since Spartacus I figured that's how they should've made Xena.

I've just finished Xena Warrior Princess. It's been a great 5 months with both Hercules and Xena. Xena's finale despite that she dies is actually awesome. I know some fans don't like because of the lack of several characters like Ares, Eve and Aphrodite but it gives it something more intimate if only the two main stars are in it. Xena and Gabrielle on their final adventure in the Land of the Rising Sun. It was a great finale and she finally has found her redemption.

Posted by: Dragondog 9 July 2018 - 05:46 PM
denizen: I wouldn't call it strange, though I don't know your son. If you can get past the fluffy-looking exterior, it's not too bad (though I strongly emphasize that my younger friends talked me into it).

Lol, once again, I feel really out of place in this discussion laugh.gif

Posted by: denizen 9 July 2018 - 08:42 PM
Yup, believe me, we all have our guilty pleasures. I have seen a couple of episodes myself and its not too bad.

At the moment I am watching a cheesy 1980's game series that used to be on UK TV called Knightmare. Always heard a lot about it but never saw it. Quite a clever show. Basically they have an actor who plays as a dungeon master. He chooses a contestant who puts on a horned helmet covering his vision and sends his off to a dungeon. Then 3 players sit in a room and watch him on the screen to advise him what to do. The technology they used was mostly blue screens and actors that played characters. It is mostly time based puzzle solving but is fun to watch as they get their friend out of trouble or ultimately ends up getting killed in the dungeon (Not for real). Then the next contestant takes the mantle and so forth. Went on for like 7 or 8 seasons and they even recently had a reunion special.

MG: I hear you but when 99.9% of the time you only get TV time with the fam, there's no getting around it mate.

Finished up all the Miraculous episodes that Netflix currently has. So until they release more, I'm done.

Started watching Big Hero 6 the series today. The dvd I got only has a few episodes, so one more afternoon, and I'll be done with that.

So... now what to watch...

Posted by: denizen 26 July 2018 - 08:14 PM
I finished up on my Knightmare episodes of season 1. Now its off to season 2!. laugh.gif

Posted by: MacGyverGod 29 July 2018 - 02:43 AM
Watching Married... With Children now. They start re-airings from season 1. The first half of season 1 was very good but quickly went a bit downhill in the second half. Season 2 really started poor but now seems to be recovering. Still I suppose it'll get better if they lasted 11 seasons. So they must did something right and I guess it would be interesting to see Christina Applegate develop from a teenager into a full grown woman.

Posted by: Jediferret 6 August 2018 - 04:43 PM
Out of curiosity, I checked out Miraculous. It took me watching the intro to realize the Cat Noir was a dude. XD It was cute, kinda reminded me of a more kid friendly Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon had a lot of mature themes, which was edited out for the original English dub here in the US. I was shocked when I watched Sailor Moon Crystal that there was a lot to the story that was cut out due to it's mature content.

Well, my childhood just got ruined. Thanks a lot Japan.

Speaking of Japan, I just finished binging a show called Switched. Kind of a darker version of Freaky Friday. It was a bit dramatic, but it surprised me that it wasn't as predictable as I originally thought it was. It's actually rather interesting... kinda hit close to home though when I was school, so I think that kept me watching.

AND... YAY! Season 2 of Castlevania is coming!!! *squee!*

Posted by: Dragondog 6 August 2018 - 06:11 PM
I watched the Miraculous episodes out of order. I skipped ahead to the origins episodes, then backtracked to the one that shows up as episode one on Netflix. What is it with kids shows flinging the audience right into the action, then revealing how it began later? dry.gif

Lol, Cat Noir is definitely a dude. Mostly people watch it because he's in love with Ladybug, but doesn't know she's a girl from his class, while she's in love with his teenage self, unaware her crush is the same guy who fights beside her all the time. Personally, I'm probably the only fan who doesn't get stressed watching them friendzone themselves XD

I was wondering what Sailor Moon was. I've heard references a lot lately. Darn it, Japan, what is it with your mature themes? dry.gif

Disenchantment is awesome! I binged it in a matter of a few days. lol

I just started watching The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. Pretty good so far, though I've only watched one episode. It's a reimagining of one of my all time favorite horror movies, The Haunting. I always loved a good haunted house movie. biggrin.gif

Well, I've been binging a lot of Netflix, so I've got myself caught up on American Horror Story. That show is messed up in so many ways. lol

I've also been watching an Anime called the Disastrous Life of Saiki K, which is pretty hilarious. I have one more season to go, then I can watch season 2 of Castlevania! WOOO!!!

Yeah, I've watched the first season. I haven't watched later seasons though, but the first season was really good! I used to watch the original anime back in the day... with the bad animation and horrible voice acting. XD

Edit: That reminds me, I binged Season 2 of Castlevania on Netflix. It's SO good! My guy friend is a big fan of the franchise, and when we first met we played the hell out of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. The running joke was that pendulums were my weakness, and "Jediferret Has Died" was burned into everyone's television screen. lol Good times, good times... XD

Couple of months ago I found Alex Haley's Roots and it's sequel Queen. Last night I had seen the first episode. It was produced from David L. Wolper who eventually produced North & South. Just found out that there is a second season made in 1979 called Roots: The Next Generations which spans another 80-some years of Kunta Kinte's family and in the 90's there was Queen which tells the story from another angle and features Mont Royal from North and South as one of the houses.

I kinda like these kind of stories. A story about a family that spans several years or decades and the first episode had a North & South feel. Shame this kind of series are not made anymore.

The first episode was kind of slow but maybe everything is just beginning, I will look forward to the rest. Apparently this first season runs from 1750 all the way to the end of the Civil War. I'm curious how they will do this in a matter of six episodes. But they're episodes of 90 minutes so plenty of time to find out.

Posted by: Dragondog 27 November 2018 - 06:34 PM
Five seasons of Voltron Legendary Defender done. Jedi, I would recommend finishing the rest of it XD

After I watched just the first two episodes of season 5, I very calmly turned to the friends who talked me into watching it, and composed a nice little poem:

First two eps of season five,
How the heck am I alive?

Then I rewrote it after I finished the season XD

Posted by: zoeryan 27 November 2018 - 08:20 PM
I just rewatched the first couple seasons of Brad Wright's (creator of Stargate) show Travelers on Netflix, in prep for season 3 dropping in a couple weeks. So many actors from Stargate SG1 and SGU. Good time travel show.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 29 November 2018 - 08:28 AM
I finished Roots. Started of kinda slow but the later episodes were better. Though I think North and South is still better the story behind Roots is a real interesting one on how Alex Haley started to research his family history and traced everything back to the real Kunta Kinte. He did take some liberations with history and his family history but Roots really captivated the whole country at the time since everyone started to get into genealogy and began looking for their roots.
Pity I didn't found Roots: The Next Generation but I do have Queen which is about Alex Haley's grandmother.

Actually Roots could've been a good title for Good Knight MacGyver.

So, I have finished season 7 of Voltron. The last season comes out in 5 days. I've been heartbroken by t.v. before, but this show- this show has run my heart through a fricken PAPER SHREDDER more times than I can count. So I'm just waiting for season 8 to come and Thanos it 8]

It really blends hilariousness with absolutely devastating drama, and this is advertised as a KIDS SHOW! Yeah, I'm sure non-kiddy animes are even worse, but still...

This three minute video basically sums up all the Voltron-realted emotions at once 8] G, K, and N broke me

Posted by: Dragondog 16 December 2018 - 06:59 PM
Yep, season 8 destroyed me. 8]

I was fine until they killed off a main character. Not the first time, but this one was more heartbreaking. Especially since it was a heroic sacrifice, so she took each character individually and told the all how much they meant to her. Since it was the last episode, it was like we were saying goodbye to them too. So no, I'm not okay 8]

Posted by: MacGyverGod 17 December 2018 - 05:12 AM
Now I also have seen Alex Haley's Queen about Haley's grandparents who were also slaves. I thought it was a little better then Roots. Roots really was kinda of slow at first. Halle Berry did some great acting. It must've been though to be a single former slave mother carrying a child along the post-civil war South and not finding her own place in the world.

Interesting was they used the Boone Hall Plantation in the show which is more famous for it's appearance in North and South known as Mont Royal.

And currently watching old episodes of Expeditie Robinson or Expedition Robinson better known in the US as Survivor. After six years there was finally a new season this year. The show originally ran from 2000 to 2012 but they ruined the format in the last two seasons by using famous people like actors and other television personalities. This year they brought it back and again with unknown faces. Then I went to look for it on YouTube and found these full old seasons back. I was like 14 when I saw the first season, it was great to see it back. Some contestants I forgot all about it while I never forgot others. More interestingly was that, despite what people say on social media is, the show never changed. There always have been plotting against others and so on... Another interesting thing is all the contestants in the first season appears to be having SAK's. They're using SAKS to eat and to work with. And the whole show even now, watches pretty smoothly. OK, the quality is not great but watchable. And it's just real great I can watch the old seasons now the latest one is over. So I can keep watching.

The next 13 episodes of Miraculous came out on Netflix, so I've been using it to numb my pain over Voltron.

Howard Silk, a low level agent working at a corporation for 30 years suddenly has his world literally turned around when he discovers that his employer has had ties with another universe and great things are afoot. A well acted and plotted show, raises an eyebrow and is highly recommended. J.K. Simmons is awesome in this.

Started on the second season of the Exorcist. Looks like I never even mentioned I saw the first season. Anyway where the first season was almost a continuation of the movie, the second season wipes the slate clean and start with a complete new story and new characters with exception of the two priests from the first season. I kinda had the same feeling as with the first, doubting it would be good but it turned out it is better then expected. It's still horror, some gory stuff but not much and decent story-telling. And it's filmed in British Columbia. I've seen already two familiar face: Jay Brazeau in a minor role in the second episode and Rochelle Greenwood in the third episode. Rochelle Greenwood played Amy in Strictly Business. I think she was barely 14 at the time and if you do the math, she would be nearly 40 by now. The second season was aired two years ago, so she was 38 but she sure is not bad looking.

I'm super excited about season 3 of Stranger Things, but it doesn't get released until July 4th, so it's gonna be a long 3 months. But it'll be totally worth it!

Though, I'm torn about Game of Thrones last season this year. It's like a train wreck... I don't want to see, but I can't stop watching it. It hurts my soul. I may skip it until the hype dies off, then watch it when it's over.

@Dragondog - LOL! It's certainly a show that doesn't take a lot of brain power to watch. Sometimes you just need a formulaic show with a happy ending to destress. Probably why I liked watching MacGyver, because it was a more adult version of that. Even Disney movies are a bit too heavy sometimes, and the Animes my guy friend watches are subtitled, so you have to pay attention. Sometimes I just don't wanna... XD

I had a super long day yesterday, so I slapped that show on when I got home and passed out. XD

@Jedi If you make it all the way to the end, you will have questions laugh.gif Or maybe the fandom just overthinks everything. I know I do tongue.gif

My same friends talked me into watching the Carmen Sandiego reboot. I never watched the original, so I didn't really know what to expect. I didn't really get into it, kinda figured it was the kind of show I'd have liked when I was younger... for the first six episodes. Last three had me on the edge of my seat, lol laugh.gif Guess we'll see how I feel when the next batch of episodes gets released

@Jedi I wanted to send this via pm, but some glitch in the matrix (probably a faulty link or something) wouldn't let me dry.gif

@Dragondog - That's hilarious XD

I actually watched Bakerix and Miraculer yesteday. Found them on YouTube in English. Had to watch 'em XD

Of course, finished watching the series finale of Game of Thrones. Man, my poor fangirl heart... sad.gif

I had some mixed feelings about it. I agree with a lot of other folks that it was very rushed, and it was kinda predictable this season. It wasn't awful, but it needed more episodes or at least one more season.

Just over a month to go for Stranger Things Season 3! Hopefully it won't disappoint D:

Edit: Whoops, looks like I got the topics mixed up. You can delete this post.

Currently watching 9-1-1 from the creators of Nip/Tuck. It's a great and exciting show about the paramedics in general but I am missing a doctor here. There's one police officer, a team of fire fighters and the phone operator.

They don't seem to back down and tackle controversial and suspenseful topics, I expected more drama like Nip/Tuck. Each character has their own story and they're fleshed out pretty good. The show is pretty good so far.

Been watching Westworld this past week. It's pretty good and has a way of going into several directions without going over the top but in ways of: what's going on now? Until now it feels like a build-up. Of course always nice to see actors like Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden and Ed Harris.

Since I started watching it's making me feel like I want to play Red Dead Redemption again. It's pretty much a real-live RDR. You can do whatever you want in it.

This might be the ideal vacation for Mac, wouldn't you think? You can practically live in the old west without going back in time. Only if I remember the admission right, it was about 40K a day. That's a little over my budget.

Otherwise the first season is pretty good but I think it's still establishing it's foundations to go bigger and better. Hopefully I can see the movie one day.

Started on Baywatch now. They've been re-airing it here since the beginning of summer vacation and am now catching up on it. I had seen an episode every now and then during it's original run but never followed it weekly so this is all new to me.

Got to say, the first few episodes, it was clearly trying to find it's footing and it was done pretty light. Mitch is a reasonable fun loving guy and everyone seems to be having the same chemistry, I saw in the movie. It's like everyone is equal in the lifeguard no matter how you look. I've seen all ages in those first few episodes. Balding guys with mustaches, 30-something man and women, teenagers... Just as in the movie where you have these 20-something kids trying to hit on one of the women who are clearly out of their league, yet they don't make fun of that, they just treat each other normally, which is rarely seen. In fact, it makes me wanna sign up for being a lifeguard. That is until I saw the trainings of course but you gotta make some sacrifices right?

Anyway, the last few episodes makes it seem it's going into the right direction and they're getting a little more serious now. The episode with the storm is one of the best I've seen so far and I'm only halfway the season. Bad guys at the start were a little stereotypical maybe. Bad guys but not very smart.

Also a couple of familiar faces went by like a young Madchen Amick, William Fichtner and two Mac-actors. Wendie Malick (with long hair which makes her look like Teri Hatcher actually) plays Gayle, Mitch's ex-wife in a couple of episodes and James Sloyan appears in one episode as a con artist who loses his stolen money in front of the Baywatch beach. And crew members aren't strangers either as W. Reed Moran (Blow Out) wrote an episode which was directed by Rob Bowman (Ma Dalton) and one episode was directed by Bruce Seth Green (Flame's End).

Hehe. My godson (he's 12) started watching that, too recently.

They played the new movie at a kids' birthday party and he loved it and told his mom (my sister) all about it. And she told him she watched the TV show when she was young and he was like WHUT? And then she started DVRing the reruns on TV for him and now he watches it religiously. Along with Knight Rider, A-Team and MacGyver tongue.gif

But that's an R-rated movie. tongue.gif

Only when they started airing the Facebook page of the tv-station did however said they updated the songs to more modern ones. One moment that made me think for a moment, if it's not original I'm not interested but in the end I never knew the original songs so it doesn't matter and I still haven't heard a song that I know. Yet, still that is something you don't do, mess with the soundtrack. Still it was kinda weird to hear the real 80's on Mitch's party in the pilot episode and more modern songs in the montages.

Besides, is it me or does Eddie (Billy Warlock) look like a mix of Tom Cruise, Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez and Jeff Schultz (Kirby from Thin Ice) especially when he's upset?

Huh? The 2017 Baywatch movie with Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson is FSK12 in German-speaking regions. So basically PG13. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been allowed to watch it tongue.gif

My sister and I are introducing the kids to all good 80s and 90s stuff lately; e.g. the Back to the Future movies.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 12 August 2019 - 12:52 AM
It's still R-rated according to allmovie. IMDB says it's for the age of 12, but in Europe we're a little more openminded. Got plenty of movies here that says for the age of 12 in Europe while sometimes they're clearly rated R. Or the other way around like Beowulf which was PG-13 in America but is for the age of 16 in Belgium which is rated R. Go figure.

Anyway if the movie was released here like 20-25 years ago, I would have seen it, no doubt.

Am now into season 2 of Baywatch. Interesting to see the disappearance of some characters without any explanation but I suppose that'll happen more often in a eleven season tv-show. The only ones remaining are Mitch, Shauni, Eddie, Capt. Thorpe and Garner with Hobie played by someone else. Hobie went from a twelve nearly thirteen-year old to a ten-year old. That's still six characters though with a couple of new ones.

After two weaker episodes, one guest starring Leslie Easterbrook (Police Academy) the last one I saw was one of the better ones and one that moved real close to MacGyver-territory. The episode was called Point of Attack, in which gangmembers harrass the sunbathers on the beach. After a fight on the beach the gangmembers are brought in at the Baywatch headquarters and are faced with jailtime when Mitch suggests Eddie to take them in the Water-program to give these kids a chance to do something they like, pretty much like the Challengers Club. From there on it's straight into Mac-territory. You either join up or go to jail. This episode also reveals that Eddie lives on a houseboat now. Interesting guest stars are: Richard Coca (Lobo) and Danny Trejo plays his father who rides red pick-up truck like Mac has. Hasselhoff's role is a little smaller in this episode but Billy Warlock really carries the episode.

This might actually be a great introduction episode if you know someone who likes MacGyver and looks for something alike. Though this is the first episode to handle troubled youths, I don't know if more episodes like this were made. Then again with 243 episodes, I suppose more episodes like this would most likely be made, even if it's just one episode per season or every other two seasons. Enjoy the clips below.

Nothing hilarious about this though. Just poor title choosing.

This is the third Mac-actor to make an appearance and I know Tim Rosseviche is set to appear in a soon to come episode too.

I think I saw the darkest episode (If looks could kill) so far in Baywatch last night. A woman responsible for her lover's death is followed by her business partner who attempts to kill her. After driving into the ocean, Mitch rescues her and falls in love with her, while Eddie has doubts about the woman, she finds protection with Mitch. This episode reminded me of The Negotiator, though a total different story, it's about a woman who gets her hands on the lead character.

Currently in season 3 of Baywatch and already more familiar faces has passed like Randolph Mantooth and Don Stroud (in the same episode) that was directed by Cliff Bole. The governor (not that governor tongue.gif ) was visiting the pier and Don Stroud being the villain of course intended to kill him by blowing up the pier, while Mantooth is the governors bodyguard yet he didn't see eye to eye with Mitch so much.

And there was also another episode written by John Whelpley (Ma Dalton amongs others) and starring Kristina Wayborn (Sara Ashford) who stole diamonds and hid them in a surfboard of one of the lifeguards. Also there seemed to be a nod to MacGyver's The Visitor episode on that. I could just hear him say it at the end of the episode: "You got a wonder."

So I found out season 2 of the new Carmen Sandiego came out, so I decided to give it a shot. I didn't really get into the first season until towards the end, so season 2 was a pleasant surprise. Seems they got the characters down, so they can be developed, and the fight scenes are more intense.

Unfortunately, unlike certain other shows(*coughMiraculousandVoltroncough*), I can't quite forget that this show is meant for kids, because we get about two minutes every episode where the characters drown the audience in geography facts for wherever in the world Carmen Sandiego is tongue.gif

On the flip side, we do get scenes like this...

*Agent Julia Argent gets promoted to help catch Carmen Sandiego*

Julia: *stares in the bathroom mirror trying to get rid of her insecurities and psych herself up for the task* *finally manages to increase her self-confidence and grins at her reflection* *turns and smashes her face in the doorway* *walks outside groaning in pain*

If that isn't the most relatable crap ever... laugh.gif

I've been watching Batwoman on the CW. The show is a bit... predictable, but I enjoy it despite its flaws. I kinda sorta have a girl crush on Ruby Rose right now... lol

Watching all my recordings now.

I just finished War of the Worlds which was more character driven then special effects driven. Only 8 episodes in the first season. I hope the second season does better. Gabriel Byrne is great as always.

Also watching You're The Worst. I don't even know if this series is really popular or not. It's about a bunch of friends and their odd relationships. With exception of the two leading characters Jimmy and Gretchen, no one of these people should be in a relationship simply because they don't match. Most of them are not even likeable characters with their narcistic personalities. Jimmy is an Englishman living in Los Angeles who has these feminine traits while Gretchen is more like the man of the two. She's rude, got a big mouth and is clinically depressed. Neither of the two likes to admit they're in a relationship and that they actually love each other. Lindsay and Paul on the other hand is like the complete opposite. Lindsay is even the meanest of all characters, using and abusing people as she see fit including Paul who is so in love with her that he doesn't see she hates him so bad she even injures him on purpose, while he blames himself for it. Anyway, the show is pretty good and has a good if not a little dark sense of humour.

I also finished Married With Children, all eleven seasons were shown here. I guess I need to get into the Mac-reboot next and the Magnum-reboot for that matter too.

Also Baywatch will be continued next week from season 4 and there is also Anger Management. Charlie Sheen's other tv-series.

Literally all my social media feeds are all about baby Yoda. XD Like... everywhere. I haven't seen the show at all, but I know what it's all about now. lol

I've been watching Mr. Robot. Interesting show...

Though I didn't recognised him right away, on the last episode I've seen in You're The Worst, Time Winters name appeared on the end credits. I got to rewatch that scene.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 9 January 2020 - 03:29 AM
I am now continuing with Baywatch and already new familiar faces including Mac-actors. For starters Wendie Malick returned as Mitch's ex-wife in the opening two-parter. But also Jim McMullan (Andrew Bartlett) made an appearance, though only in one scene in both parts. I think he took over the role as Matt's father from Dirk Benedict. Merely a cameo to be honest.

In another two-parter Kristian Alfonso guest starred in yet another villainous role, ironically she was called "Debra". I wonder why. She had that Deborah streak around her. This time helping her husband escape from prison but when he gets shot during the escape she takes Mitch hostage and forces him to operate her husband.

Also started on Anger Management. It's alright, maybe I'm not laughing as hard as I did with Two and a half Men but it gets me to laugh. Interesting to see Shawnee Smith, who plays the deranged Amanda in the Saw-movies in a totally different role as Charlie's ex-wife. While divorced they're still on good terms in contrast to Judith and Alan from Two and half Men.

Last night I've seen one of the nicest episodes so far on Baywatch. The Child Inside, it was pretty much our There But For The Grace counterpart.

An old friend of Mitch asks him and Stephanie to organize a special olympics for kids who are disabled or need special care. It was a very emotional driven episode as Mitch and Stephanie are asked to keep an eye of two kids. A girl with the syndrome of down and a somewhat retarded boy as they both have to teach them to believe in themselves and learning to do what's right even if it means losing a contest.

Also has a great video clip with the song.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 18 January 2020 - 06:13 AM
And yet another great episode on Baywatch called Mirror Mirror. An episode strongly resembling Two Times Trouble. Mitch meets a young woman named Gwen, who is the total opposite of her sister Mattie. Mattie is an assertive, attractive, outspoken woman while Gwen is seemingly scared of everything and everyone. Yet Gwen is determined to find herself a man and goes out to the beach and meets Mitch but Mattie has plans of her own.

But Mitch seems to be having the same problem with women as Mac has. Gwen/Mattie was played by Carrie-Anne Moss. The first real big name I've seen so far.

Also the other episode I have seen called The Falcon Manifesto was a great episode. Another episode in which Mitch meets somebody and hopes to start a relationship with yet fate always decides otherwise.

These last two episodes was more what I'm looking for. Especially the Mitch-centric episodes and where he seems to be more alone dealing with heavy stuff.

Posted by: MacGyverGod 26 January 2020 - 06:29 AM
Baywatch seemed to have their own version of Friends, Unfinished Business and Hind-Sight since there was a clipshow in the fourth season and a good one. Due to budget cuts, Baywatch may be forced to cutbacks so Mitch and his team can explain the city what Baywatch stands for by inviting city officials and former victims and have them explain how they were helped by the lifeguards.

This episode also featured Richard Coca (Lobo) again and refers to the episode he starred in earlier. Cliff Bole also directed a few other episodes, I've noticed.

I'm watching the Magnum P.I. Reboot. I've got to say it: it's much much much better then the Mac Reboot to be honest. Sticking mostly to one storyline per episode and we're back to the weekly case instead of a major storyline. It's like they're doing this right from the start. OK, so, yes, Higgins is a woman and Mac too and there are a couple of new characters like Katsumoto and befriended woman coroner with which he a similar relationship as the orginal Magnum and Mac had meaning, he needs to bribe her to get things done. But in all the series is much better then I expected also without comparison to the Mac-reboot. I'd say they finally did something right. Not just some irritating boss saying: "blondie" or "hurry up" in their comms or unnecessary characters like Leanna and Bozer who are more in the way then actually being helpful or with three storylines squeezed in 45 minutes. And it's quite obvious Magnum and Juliet are supposed to be a thing. 16 episodes in and the original Magnum would've had like ten girls already. This one, zip. Despite a clear interest in one of his clients and an ex-girlfriend out to stir up his past.

Couple of nice names passing the venue: Justin Lin directed the first episode and serves as executive producer. Sung Kang played Lt. Tanaka but only in the first episode. If he could've been a regular it would've greatly improved and boosted his career. Also Jordana Brewster appeared in an episode (one of the best so far) and I don't think we've seen the last of her yet. An one of the most interesting actors I've seen though a little bit of a small part was Carl Weathers.

It was also nice to see something on sunken gold, like one of the fanfics I wrote: Lost Gold In The Ocean. But like I said, it really isn't a bad show at all. Could've been a lot worse.

Woohoo, 7600.

It's alright, cause I'm Saved By The Bell.

Actually have watched a bunch of shows lately.

Finished up Castlevania Season 4 over the weekend. I also watched Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor, both are very good... but depressing. I also got caught up on Saiki K and Saiki K Reawaken (which is such a great anime!). I also started watching another anime called The Way of the Househusband. I also caught up on Stranger Things and Bridgerton.

Mostly Netflix stuff since that is where all the good stuff has been at lately.

I also found out that there is a CGI Resident Evil series coming to Netflix this summer. biggrin.gif

I cannot say that I have been watching anything recent religiously but I have enjoyed She-Hulk, The rebooted Beavis and Butthead and even the new Quantum Leap. Although I am disappointed Scott Bakula decided not to be involved in the show, I remain hopeful he will change his mind, mostly due tot he fact that the show evolves around the original so heavily.

I am looking forward to the upcoming Last of Us TV series expected early next year.

I've watched all 4 seasons but I couldn't retell you a single episode. Some of the characters are still bland.

To me, it's a typical CBS crime drama background show. Something you can watch while having dinner without paying too much attention.

I do think they handled that better in some episodes; depending on the main writer.

They fall into that trap, too. Even more so in later seasons, I think.

They pushed "the will they won't they" over 4 seasons and then they got cancelled. With NBC picking it up, at least the "Miggy" shippers might get their wish (unlike the MacRiley shippers).

They have the same writers team for Seasons 5 and 6 but I'm curious how much will change now that they're airing on another network.
