Actress Darlanne Fluegel has passed away at the age of 64 due to Alzheimer's.

Fluegel played MacGyver's very first love interest Barbara Spencer in the Pilot episode. She played in a few big movies and as most notable she played Robert De Niro's love interest in the movie Once Upon A Time In America directed by Sergio Leone and as love interest to Sylvester Stallone in the movie Lock Up.

At the age of 56 she was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer. She is survived by her son.

Apparently Darlanne died nearly three weeks ago, I just found about this now.

yes, just read it via Twitter last night. the article by The Hollywood Reporter actually mentioned her involvement in the Pilot Episode: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/darlanne-fluegel-dead-live-die-la-running-scared-actress-was-64-1071449

56 is the mean age to be diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's, but that's still way too young... quite tragic.

This really is sad. I had no idea what became of her. In my mind, she'll always be that young assistant. sad.gif

It's a good reason perhaps to see Once Upon Time In America again. Only seen it once, but she can't be much younger since the movie is dated 1984 and in Lock up she wasn't that much older since the movie is from 1989 but she will indeed be best remembered as Barbara Spencer.
