Okay, I voted excellent for "Murderers' Sky" mainly because this episode featured Ernie Reyes Jr.!!! I love his movies! Well, mainly I love so many of his acting jobs because they're almost always martial arts related and he has such great skills on that area. He was great in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze" as Keno. He was also in the 1993 movie "Surf Ninjas"- which is an awesomely funny movie! One of my other favorite appearances by him is in a 1986 TV show I used to love watching called "Sidekicks". He played a character named Ernie that worked with a detective, solving cases and beating up bad guys. It was great!
So mainly the fights with the ninjas were the great scenes here for me (love MacGyver's martial arts skills! ) and I do love MacGyver's cool MacGyverism at the end where he makes fake rocks to hide behind and takes the enemy by surprise. Really cool. -A great episode to end Season 3 with!!!

I couldn't vote great so I voted excellent. Well duh. Season 3 ends great with this episode and I love the chemistry between MacGyver and Luke. A fourteen year old defending himself from full grown men? Another Indiana Jones twitch?? Cool anyways. Mac's yell during the fight is so funny. Great episode.

I gave this an excellent rating. Went crazy over the martial arts stuff, and also liked watching Luke discover that the world was a lot a more complicated than he'd been prepared for. I also thought it was kind of that the ninja-assassin at the beginning turned out to be a woman. Oh yeah, and of course Mac's trick with the fake rocks was a classic!
QUOTE (MacGyverGod @ Nov 23 2005, 05:41 AM)
That woman was Tia Carrere. Her second show up in the series, this time as a villain and if you're interested she also plays a big role in True Lies with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Yep, I recognized her from the movie Wayne's World.

I liked that I finally got to see the ep where the cobra appeared. I kept seeing it in the opening montage.
Loved this:
Mac: "The monks teach you how to fight like that?"
Luke: "Yes."
Mac: "We're friends.... right?"
*giggles*

yeah I love that too... is funny!

I voted good! It was a brilliant episode and it got my full attention. It just didn't get me on the edge of my couch, if you know what I mean.
I think the conclusion with the wallpaper (what the...? whas it?!?!?!) was kind of a bit farfetched.

I voted good. definitly not one of my favorites. i liked how MacGyver went about finding the hidden door. i didn't like the ending in any way whatsoever. one of the best scenes was when mac had the long metal pipe while fighting all those bad chinease guys and he does a martial arts yell while shaking the pole. hillarious :
QUOTE (Kate Mackay @ Feb 23 2006, 02:16 pm)
Yeah, that was my thing also. . . I mean, about seeing the cobra. In the introduction, I always saw the cobra and wondered where is that coming from ( I did not even know it was this episode. The way the intro was done, it looked like it came from the GHOST SHIP episode. I mean, in the intro you see the scene from the GHOST SHIP that the door swung shut, and Mac opens the door and looks over to the side of the camera. Then the next thing is the thing with the cobra. So it LOOKED like he was opening the door to see the cobra. ) But then I finally got to see the episode and I said to myself " OH ! So THIS is the episode with the cobra! " And imagine my surprise to see it had nothing to do with the GHOST SHIP. The cobra was actually coming out of Tia Carrere's ( remember her from the WISH CHILD episode? She was in that episode as well. . . )purse. She DELIBERATELY left her purse so that MacGyver and the little boy could have that surprise waiting for them. Anyway, that is what I had to say for this episode. .

Theres one thing I don't understand about this episode... the title...
Whys it called Murderer's Sky?
I think it came from the old Chinese saying that Luke said, something like 'you cannot stay under the same sky with the murderer who killed your father.' maybe
I noticed something in this episode which I've never seen before.
At the beginning that ninja has bare feet right through her whole mission. It seems quite odd that someone how knows they're going to be climbing around on a building would have bare feet.

Sorry that I'm late posting this--this has been yet another of those busy weeks!
This is another enjoyable episode, though not a personal favorite. I liked Luke's character, and how he was portrayed. Once again, however, it would be interesting to know what an actual Chinese would think about the episode, and the myths presented herein... if they're plausible or just a typical "westerner's" view on Chinese culture...
The scenes where Luke was trying to heal his grandfather were touching. He truly had amazing abilities! And the fighting! Though the fighting scenes were a bit over the top presentation wise (too cheesy for my taste when the bad guys were showing off their fighting sticks etc...) Luke was really good.
I think the escape from the cellar was interesting--the loudspeaker thing seems rather plausible, and I saw the clip from the Mythbusters episode where they proved that lightbulbs really will explode if you're spraying them like that! Pretty cool!
I think, though, there were other episodes that would have worked better as a season's finale. "The Negotiator" for instance.

we see Mac can handle himself in a fight. The Macgyverisms were good, detecting a secret entrance with sound waves and making a fake wall to hide. Mac and the young heir seemed to relate to one another well, they made a good team.

I've been trying to figure out the poison used to murder the grandfather. I've heard the name in the episode, but I'm not sure how to spell it or what the poison is.

This was excellent episode, different from others and somehow a mystic. It was kind of funny when Mac and the boy were fighting in parking hall and after that they just you know continued walking happy together like nothing wouldn't happen. Stopped by for fighting...

That is terrible news. I've liked Ernie Reyes, jr. since I was a kid. Especially Surf Ninjas. And I'd forgotten he was in this episode until '06 or '07 when MacGyver came out on dvd. Watch "The Rundown" with Dwayne Johnson and Sean William Scott. Ernie has a small part in it but gets to show off his martial arts skills and absolutely shines. And man did he get ripped. Wishing the best for him.

I see that a lot of people liked Luke and I did too, but the one thing that really bugged me was his voice. It was so deep...not what you would expect from a boy his age and height. I know I'm really stereotyping here and I don't mean too. It was just one of those annoying things. Loved some of Mac' lines:)

I remember Ernie from The Last Electric Knight (TV Movie which became a TV series titled, Sidekicks, Not be confused with the Sidekicks movie starring Chuck Norris & Jonathan Brandis)
Electric Knight also starred Gil Gerard who was famous for his Buck Rogers role in the 1980's.

I think he just talked like a monk. He was in balance with himself and the universe, I guess. Interesting how the monks taught him to fight. I thought they were all about peace.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. It wasn't his cadence...just that I've worked with a lot of boys that age and they usually don't have such deep voices. Apparently his changed early.

I liked this episode. I especially liked the fighting scenes. It is a good thing that Mac got that staff like weapon because in hand to hand combat with those guys he would of had a hard time.
The yelling is actually a martial art technique. Its called a Kiai....but in this case I think Mac was more scared than using a technique and was yelling out of being scared and trying to scare his attacker which was effective and is a part of the reason why it is done.
When I was training I had a hard time with Kiai. I didn't like to do it. I was silent most of the time. The reason it is done is that it gives your attacks more power and when done correctly it can intimidate an attacker.
I remember during one of my tests I heard someone yelling during a drill and was surprised to realize it was actually me! I was so exhausted that it just came out...that is how I found my Kiai.
I always have loved the actor that played Luke. During my childhood the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were huge and that movie was like THE movie that me and my friends would watch over and over and over again.
The scene when the snake popped out my wife screamed! She hates snakes......
