Hot on the heals of
hearing that CBS have given the go ahead for a new MacGyver series we now hear a new announcement of a MacGyver movie from Lionsgate CEO, Jon Feltheimer. The announcement came during an earnings call today. There have been no details offered about the movie, other than it will be produced by series creator Lee David Zlotoff and Fast and Furious franchise producer, Neal Moritz.
A movie was originally announced back in 2012 to be produced by New Line Cinema with Furious 7 director James Wan ear-marked to direct, but he dropped out of the project to take up the Furious 7 helm and shortly thereafter the project was disbanded by rights holder and series creator Lee Zlotoff.
James Wan will still get his shot at MacGyver though. He's tagged to executive produce the CBS TV reboot which will serve as a prequel to the original series which stared Richard Dean Anderson and will focus on a twenty something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization from the original show.
