He's never made any secret of this.

He was a producer on SG so had a lot more freedom to be "himself" and goof around.

"One time we were on a camping trip. This bear ate all our food! I got all wimpy scared, but my grandpa, he said to me, 'Bud. . . we'll just go grazing.'"

It makes sense. He was in 95% of all scenes in MacGyver and it was quite a physical show so he had long hard days every day. SG was a team show so he had a lot more down time.
