This is the one when Penny inherits her aunt Betty Parker's mansion and they think it's haunted. Saw this one by a fluke while on vacation and thought it was a great ep, but I have one major question. In Every Time She Smiles Penny told Mac when they met that Penny Parker was not her real name. If not, how can she have an Aunt Betty Parker? Or is just her first name fake? I couldn't remember if there was an episode that clarified that or not.
QUOTE (Rockatteer)
I don't think there has been an episode that clarifies her name.
One would assume Parker was her real last name, maybe Penny is in fact her middle name, thats quite a common trick with actors.
QUOTE (MacGyverGod)
Yeah like who knows if RDA does something again he gets cast as Dean Anderson. Who many peoples call him Dean? Not me, for me he's just Rick.
QUOTE (rockatteer)
Rick had to use his middle name because the actor register already had a Richard Anderson on it. And they don't allow a name on the register more than once.
QUOTE (Pseodonym @ aug2 2006)
I actually caught that when I first saw the episode, but I just figured that either Parker was her real last name, or she used her Aunt's last name when creating a name for herself because she thought it was catchy.
I watched this ep last night and have a 'light' nitpick. It's the kind of nitpick I can explain away, but I still think it's worth mention.
If aunt Betty was pregnant, Mac should have unearthed two skeletons. Of course, the sheriff could have cut her open and buried the baby elsewhere (ew), but why? He buried the body under the gazebo, figuring it would never be found, so why go through the trouble of burying the baby elsewhere?
Can somebody who doesn't have special knowledge of the human body really reconstruct a face from a skull? I mean, I know that you can do that, but is it that easy?
Apparently once you understand the basics of what your doing.. it's not so hard.
My son got a CSI: Facial reconstruction kit for his birthday. He wanted one after watching this episode of MacGyver. And it's actually not as hard as you would think.
apparently there are certain characteristics of a persons face (such as muscle thickness) which are always the same. So if you know these basic things then I guess you could do it. Although I don't think in real life the police would be too happy with MacGyver tampering with evidence like that.
When Mac is eating the ice-cream while looking through the notebook the color of the ice-cream changes. In one shot it is yellow, in the next it is orange.
We see Mac cutting the rubbers (uh, what is the Amercian term? I know it is not THAT ) from the pencils, they are very small, but what we see later on the face is much longer actually. Especially in the cheek area. Or did he put several over each other?
When Penny is explaining to MacGyver that Virgil thought Aunt Betty had come back after 30 years, she doesn't seem to realize that Aunt Betty wouldn't look anything like her with 30 years of age behind her back. Why would Virgil think that Betty would look the same as 30 years before?

I noticed one more: in the scene when Mac, Penny and sheriff are in the kitchen and they talk. Mac puts reconstructed head on the table, and the head is facing Penny. In the next shot it is "looking" in different direction.
The best way to beat the problem, is to make it work for you

would depend how far through the pregnancy she was when she died.
babies bones aren't fully formed even at birth. So I wouldn't expect them to last underground.
She would have been far enough along, at least further than half term, I would guess. Remember Penny holding up her clothes and saying she needed to go on a diet? (not Penny, the aunt) We assumed that her aunt was just fat but we discover she was pregnant. Based on the size of the clothes I would guess that Betty Parker was close to full term, so two skeletons should have been found.

Well, he didn't. Howels drugged Penny. He seemed very eager to give her another cup of coffee.
There is something else that is bugging. How can Betty be pregnant with Howels' illegitimate child? There is no reference at all Howels was seeing someone else at the time or it should've been Sylvia Lang but that is not ever pointed out. Does it make it illegitimate if she got pregnant before they were married? Or is it just the fact because he became sheriff and got her pregnant while everybody knew she was crazy?
How can you call it illegitimate?

Than it's just the 'old days'. Seems really weird now if you think about it.

(Murdoc) Does anyone have a knife?? Yes...it has lots of different blades (Macgyver music plays while mac examines the knief) ...I know Why are you taking your pants off?? You got a better idea? I'm still trying to figure out what yours is!!

Watch again. I think Howels was smart enough to be put two and two together. They found remains of a case he supposedly couldn't solve and suddenly a woman appears who resembles Betty. You might indeed wonder why he'd do it and it's maybe farfetched because Penny just passed out upstairs. Maybe he saw it as a chance to kidnap her or eventually kill her. She faints, Mac is trying to take care of her, he knocks Mac out and has his chance with Penny. Than Virgil comes and nearly kills Howels. Nice alternate ending.
I think this was a matter of better safe than sorry.

When Mac shows the skull to the sheriff and points out the gold filling in the tooth, the sheriff says "I've never noticed that before." This would automatically make you think that it is not the first time he had seen it. Also, when Mac puts the skull on the dowel on the wig stand he looks inside the skull for a place to run the dowel through and it fit solidly on the stand. The human skull would have nothing inside to hold it firmly on the stand and would just balance on top of the dowel. There is also nothing holding the mandible (lower jaw)to the skull. It would have to be wired to the skull.
