I'm expecting them to totally screw this up. Stop remaking good shows.

I will say though, I do like the new Hawaii Five-O.

I think everyone is expecting the worst, Drawz. But we remain hopeful that it will not disappoint. There is a clear representation that they are trying to make it work and the obvious differences are putting a few off. But with new stars and new writers come different dynamics. This is why some things are changed to better suit today's world.

It's obvious that it will never be the original show. But it might be something interesting. Let's see what happens in about 3 weeks! Yes! its almost here!

I'm still 50/50. I've been in my corner, trying to keep my mouth shut. lol

I'll give it a fair chance. Judge it on it's own merits and not hold it to my (admittedly inflated) standard of the original. But there are sooo many ways it could go wrong.

And if they drag in Richard Dean Anderson for a cheesy cameo I will puke.

You don't get CBS in Swiss Land?

No.

But didn't Jack O'Neill say "where's a will, there's an or" or something like that? biggrin.gif

It might take a bit longer, but I will get to see it eventually...

Yeesh. You know what I like best about living in 'Murica? We get TV. Hell some of the channels even come in over the air for free... like CBS. ;-p

Yup we also have CBS this side of town.

I'm no Astro-Geologist or anything, but if one can watch NCIS in S.A., one should probably be able to do the same in Switzerland. smile.gif

Not necessarily. It all boils down to licensing rights. The laws in Switzerland might prevent them from getting the same shows or on time due to varied factors.

Just saying mate. It's different for every country. We get shows on time here but there is a hefty price. Subscriptions on TV channels can sky rocket up to $70. No joke. You get premium channels for a price.

Switzerland is neutral so you should get ALL TV shows from everywhere! laugh.gif

I wish *lol*

Switzerland is so small with 4 national languages; we don't have many channels of our own. But we get many German speaking FreeTV channels from Germany and Austria. Sadly, you have to wait up to 2 years sometimes to get a TV show (and sometimes they're released on PayTV and later directly on DVD without ever being shown on FreeTV).

I guess if New MacGyver is a success and gets a second season, we might actually get it; the original show was shown on several German and Austrian TV channels and we are the home country of the SAK after all happy.gif . If it's cancelled after the first few episodes, they might not bother showing it on TV here and release it on DVD only...

I'm sitting next to DashboardOnFire on that fence biggrin.gif
The trailer looked interesting, and I literally cheered when I saw the jacket in the featurette; they do seem to focus on Mac being the Brains - I just hope they don't make him more James Bond than MacGyver. Didn't they see the original Mac almost breaking his knuckles when he punched people? tongue.gif
I honestly didn't catch Eads was Jack Dalton, it's definitely a different version from the clumsy but ultimately lovable guy with his badass moments Jack of the 80s. I wonder what does Bruce McGill think? The Best friend character seen in the featurette seems closer to the 80s Jack, but it was just a few seconds so it's difficult to speculate for now.
I do appreciate the fact the boss is not an attempt to get someone like Dana, he was awesome and a bad copy would be bad taste, to say the least. Also yay, more women bosses happy.gif
In any case, I'll wait until after few episodes are out to decide whether I like it or not... don't shoot it down at the pilot, guys, most pilots are more of a test run in most series, things are bound to get adjusted in the following episodes.
It surely doesn't bode well that RDA doesn't want to touch the thing with a 10 foot pole, but I can understand why and I do appreciate a lot the focus he put on the fans' loyalty.
((BTW RDA, we wouldn't object at all if you did a series of your own as older Mac teaching the trade to a daughter/young smart person *hint hint nudge nudge*))
That said, fingers crossed it's a good series that doesn't butcher the memory of the original! macsak.gif

I was looking forward to it more before they started mindlessly throwing in familiar names without getting the character traits and backgrounds right. I'll still watch though, because MacGyver himself is still recognizable as MacGyver to me.

So what did everyone think about the Pilot? I am still on the fence. I don't know how I feel about Jack Dalton character being a bad ass special ops person. But then I think I also don't want the show to be an exact copy of the original as I think that would fail miserably. I don't want to spoil anything if some have not seen the pilot yet, so I won't go into anything else right now.

I do think though that this could be a pretty good show and I will continue to watch it.

I'm undecided as to whether I want to see it. At the moment the UK hasn't had to opportunity to do so and probably won't for some time. I must confess I am not overboard about the new re-make phenomenon.

Just as an aside I caught the end of a TV movie the other evening - Knight Rider and Michael Knight was still the Hoff, but KITT was RED! RED!!! I didn't know that such a liberty had ever been taken. Even my kids were saying 'that's so wrong' and I think in some ways that's how you tend to think when something new tries to take on the mantle of something that's well loved. At least with things like the ST franchises they all tried to be something different within the same ST Universe. Mac might work as it's been set in a different time period, but I still don't know if I want to find out.

A lot of women were kind of.... "in love" with Richard Dean Anderson (not me, I just liked the show.....). That is what attracted the female viewers. I don't Lucas Till is going to attract the women in that way. But hopefully Lucas Till will help women be attracted to STEM subjects in school....

I think you are referring to the Knight Rider 2000 TV movie. biggrin.gif

It was meant to be the pilot to a spin-off/ continuation but it didnt fare well with the public.

At the time they did not have a black Trans Am and were unable to include it (Or something like that)

But they wanted the new lead to be a female star with a new red car that could talk.

I wasnt too wild about it either. biggrin.gif

That Knight Rider (And Team Knight Rider) were both abominations that should never have been made heheheh! tongue.gif
