Remember though, that if you get the MacGyver Season 1 DVD that says "Original Broadcast Episodes" on the back, you've got the set that has the uncut version of "Thief of Budapest".

(You have to give Paramount some credit for correcting that issue.)

and how I would know that I am buying this uncut version, when I am buying from amazon?

Dang.... Why would they leave out such a large chunk of the episode?

well the cuts where in the "first releases" of the DVD set and quite some time ago now. So I would doubt very much that there are any edited copies left for sale anywhere now.

So all that to say I'm pretty sure Amazon would have up to date versions.

Dang.... Why would they leave out such a large chunk of the episode?

My only guess would be that they used a copy which had been edited down for time (to get more ads in).

But then once it was brought to their attention, they went back and found a full version.

so then if my friend will buy it, I will check it and post here info smile.gif

So just to get this straight: If we are talking about cutted episodes here - does this mean only "Thief of Budapest" or are other episodes of season 1 involved as well?

Since Lothithil wrote

QUOTE
I finally broke down and bought a new Season One, and I'm finding new delight in watching it and picking out the new scenes--some no more than a few frames here and there--of footage I've never seen before.

Next best thing to watching it all again for the first time!

Love my MacGyver

so I kinda wondered.

So I suppose it is too late to get them replaced now? (Since my friend also has the cutted version of season 1, region 1, but apparently didn't get much around in fandom and so she missed this) How did you do that anyway? Did you send your DVDs back or just got new ones?

And, Loth, since you now have the whole complete box, there is no need anymore for the season 1, could you please send it over to me? laugh.gif

I dunno... I'm kinda emotionally attached to them... biggrin.gif

I can't even bear to throw away my old roughdrafts of my MacFics!

Can you say... obsessive? Yes I am! laugh.gif

While I was playing with the camera, I took a picure of the thing to look for to see if the set you're planning to buy is the set that is unedited:

So if it says that on the back, the episodes are unedited?

anyone has a video scene? from footage?

Thanks!

That was me that sent that to you Rock. Someone from I believe Norway sent me the uncut episode and I compared it and made that list. I then mailed Paramount and complained and they later sent me the updated season 1 set with the missing footage in that episode for free.

Posted by: MacGyverOnline 14 May 2008 - 01:03 PM
ok thanks lemmy, I've updated my original post to reflect that.

Hi,

I just remembered a little bit after I submitted the Thief of Budapest transcript to you, Rocky, that I used the cut version to make it, and had been looking for someone to transcribe the cut parts.

Lemmy, is it OK if I use your list? I'll give you credit. It would also be more helpful if the action and dialogue could be written together (rather than all action written, then all dialogue). But if that's not possible, I'll stick with what you've got written already.

Thanks smile.gif

Yeah, that was me.
That was some good teamwork. smile.gif

I later compared every season 1 episode to the DVD set, and found that "Thief From Budapest" was the only edited episode.

I was surprised that Paramount corrected the mistake so quickly.
But that might be the only positive thing I can say about Paramount's treatment of MacGyver on DVD...

I know the US versions were corrected and the box set now has the complete episodes in it.

Unfortunately I don't know about other region versions.

I'm assuming here that the European cuts are the same as the US cuts and if that's so you can see the summery in the first post of this thread which has a list of all the missing scenes and the total time (see below)

Summary:
Total UNCUT episode time: 48:03
Total DVD episode time: 45:31 (2:32 total cuts)

I bought all mine last year, so I think by then they would of made changes.

Posted by: SammyJoe 19 January 2011 - 10:53 AM
I just checked from the current "The Complete Series" box that is sold in Europe, and the running time for the episode is 43:45 and also someone commented about the single first season set that is sold in Finland has the same lenght 43:45.

Its really a pity if they cant release the uncut-version of the episode on the complete set, but if it makes any more sense the episode aint that special.
I might have liked it alot in first broadcast but now watching it after all these years it just is one of the worst ones in the first few seasons.

And so many releases that claim to be complete might be nowhere near that in real.

I wonder why did they edit the parts?

Posted by: MacGyverOnline 19 January 2011 - 10:16 PM
Different regions have different requirements for how many commercials they have to play during TV shows. They also have different requirements for what content is and isn't allowed. These things all have to be factored into the length differences for shows and are all legitimate reasons for cutting scenes.

It might be that each region release would have the original version of the episodes as they were edited for that region.

Hi Guys,
I had missed this discussion.
I checked the episode in the first season box that I buyed here in Italy (region 2) years ago and it is the cut-version.

Never noticed anything different on the opening credits except for the Pilot. What is indeed missing on the original dvd's as we all know (including Europe) is the original credits from the Pilot, the scene at the Pentagon and the scene outside the bar in Thief of Budapest. That's all I ever noticed, also Chris is shown leaving the casino twice in The Heist. Also the original Lost Love opening theme has been replaced with the actual third season theme song, just as the opening credits of season 4 and 5 all have the standard openings and not the alternate openings they had during their airings which contained footage of the actual episode being shown.
