Dose anyone know who will be playing Pete in the reboot?
I'm not sure there will be a Pete. This series seems to be set before he meets Pete.
It's also a "reimagining," rather than a straight-up prequel, which means he doesn't necessarily ever have to meet Pete, or Jack, etc. It will be interesting to see what direction they go with all of that.
Pete never really worked for me because of his fuddy-duddyness and the age gap - especially noticeable in their sporting episodes where his huffing & puffing quickly set the wrong tone. Maybe they'll filter him in in later episodes and cast a bit closer to Mac's age & fitness level.

I like Pete too. Most folks aren't going to be like MacGyver. Most of us are going to huff and puff... and whine. However, it shows MacGyver's endless patience for good folks that are in his care. If anything, I think Pete represents the majority of people who aren't experienced hikers, or survivalists. Most viewers can relate to Pete.
Besides, who doesn't love this line: You know, I would think out of respect for an older man, and your superior, you would have the common decency to be a little bit winded!

Yes, except Pete was an ex-field op himself and initiated the 'MacGyver Land' field test in The Survivors, himself - so you expected more. But then he made a mockery, slapstick thing out of it and dam near had a coronary. The Pete character is fine, but I just don't think the casting demographic as it was back in the 80s would fly this time around especially with all the bonding, bromance episodes that they went through, we endured.

It is possible that the two had a great chemistry which is what prompted them to use Dana Elcar to play the character. Back then they didn't really see the demographic. It was just formulaic for its time.

I think they did have a good chemistry and that Pete looked, played the part of an 'office manager' from back then. I should post a scan of my boss from that era - a spittin image of Pete! Today, though, the CEO/boss whatever in high tech is more likely to be in his 30s or younger. Things have changed big time in that department.

I liked Pete too, he was a good balance to Macgyver. Also served as a father figure for Mac too. I'm hopeful they are able to get to a point where "Pete" will make an entrance.
Here ya go, John (my boss) is about 10 years older than Pete(Dana) in 1985ish .... but if you extrapolate a bit remove the glasses, I think it's a good enough match. Btw, my boss, at 70, was still playing 2 hours of tennis a day, and encouraging all employees to do so.

Pete and other recurring characters could end up being belated additions to the show, just like they were in the original. Maybe the immediate status quo starting with episode one doesn't include them and then the producers decide to start throwing fans bones by introducing familiar characters. The Batman cartoon of the 2000s didn't even have Commissioner Gordon and instead this other authority figure they made up, and all the villains were weirdly reimagined, then Gordon showed up along with Robin and Batgirl, the villains became more traditional, and by the end of the show, it was practically Batman: The Animated Series with a new art style and voice actors.
