Just got an alert on my phone that Della Reese passed away on Sunday at age 86.

Ms. Reese was born on July 7, 1931. She began her singing career (gospel) at age six before expanding into jazz in the 1940's. In the 1960's she began her T.V. career. In 1979 she suffered a brain aneurysm, that nearly took her life, after appearing on "The Tonight Show". In the 1980's she became an ordained minister and opened her own church Understanding Principles for better Living (UP Church).

Sad news.

She always felt like the grandmother of Hollywood to me. She seemed to be such an incredibly nice person full of wisdom and love and that came out in the way she played her roles.

I mostly just know her as Mama Colton but I know she was in that show Touched By An Angel.

RIP Della.

I don't remember any of the episodes, but "Touched by an Angel" was a show my grandma often watched with me when I was visiting way back when.

I loved the Mama Colton character. She was no non-sense and kept her boys and other people's in line. She was great at getting them to do what is right. love.jpg
