Um, I think he was joking.

And it's not surprising if he perhaps got a detail wrong or something- Shavar Ross' main memories of MacGyver would be from the "Pilot" episode- and once he found out he didn't have a role in the series anymore, I'm sure he simply moved on to lots of other projects (and he has done a number of things- though probably best known as Arnold Jackson's best friend Dudley on "Diff'rent Strokes")- and after having been in so many different things- it's easy to forget all the exact details- even though the rabid fandom in the devoted fans screams out, "How could you possibly not know that? You were on it!" LOL
