MacGyver Online Forums > Galleries > Filming Locations

Posted by: MacGyverOnline 16 July 2008 - 07:10 PM
The idea of this thread is to post images of filming locations so we can get an idea of what the location area looks like.

You can also request a view of a specific location or even post a screen shot and ask "where was that filmed". You should check our http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/locations.html before asking though, because we have quite a few locations already listed there. You can, however, still ask for a virtual view of a location we already have.

Notes and thoughts:
Images probably shouldn't be any wider than about 850 - 900 max.
(Anything beyond that starts messing up the look of the post)

I'll most a couple to give you an idea of what I'm on about, and get the ball rolling.

Welcome aboard Mulletman.

The unfortunate news for you is that all episodes of MacGyver where filmed either in the US or in Canada.

There are no actual MacGyver locations in Budapest. The Thief of Budapest was actually filmed in and around LA.

Other place where MacGyver was shot is the Pasadena City Hall (7th Season 3rd Episode Obsessed).

This place was the Hinkel´s palace (Chaplin in The Great Dictator)

This place was the police station in Beverly Hills Cop. In Beverly Hills Cop used 2 places for the police station. One of them was Pasadena City Hall.

Your post about the episode "Back from the dead" reminded me that I have been there, Rocky. If you want to you can add this picture to the locations page. It is in Steveston.

user posted image

I just recently watched it again, how he ran over the roof, and then hang on the crane, and then got shot. If the water was as deep down when Mac fell in there he took quite a fall! And how did he climb back up? I can see a ladder hanging there...

Nice little town.
I read that "Secret of Parker House" also has been filmed there (also the Stargate-Episode "Nightwalkers", by the way).

I'm pretty sure that's tidal waters; you don't usually see pilings that high unless the water level changes by that much. If so, your picture could show low tide, and the episode could have been shot at high tide. Certainly the fictional location in the episode was an ocean dock.

Nice pictures you added there, Rock! Exactly like I remember the area. That I photographed the Seafood House is pure accident, though, I only liked it and found out back home that it was a location.

Same happened to me when being at the convention place where "Lost Love" has been filmed. In the end Paya and me decided just to photograph everything, since whole Vancouver area is one big location wink.gif

I also have the house/pension of the Lacey-sisters, btw. Lots of pictures to come!

Most seen in the episode is the right, side, though. This is where they come with the handcart and Mac laying on it (the street is to the left, so they come from there):

This is the other house at the property, you also see it in the episode:

user posted image

I wonder though how they filmed the scene with the car crashing into the front of the house. Surely they won't destroy the original, but it does not look like a fake one, either. However, the entrance to the basement, where the car rolled over, is not there, so apparently this was an addition for the scene. The little hut on the left side, where they buried Leo, is also not there, and I think the ramp for wheelchair user is newly added.

user posted image

The place is called "London Heritage Farm" and is also near Steveston.

user posted image

Unfortunately it only was open till 5 PM, and we were there at 6 PM. We could roam freely over the property, but I also would have loved to go inside and see the staircase Mac tumbled down, and all the other rooms.

Well, next time!

While being in Vancouver we also visited the https://goo.gl/maps/Eh1QNTsfSA4km6c89. It is near Chinatown. Actually were we searching for the location of Kheb, from the Stargate-episode "Maternal instinct". Back home I watched the episode again and though it is close, it does not look quite exactly like my pictures.

Imagine my surprise when I found the location used in the MacGyver-episode "Murderer's sky"! Which again proves what Paya and me were saying in the end: Shoot (pictures) first, find locations later!

How do you find all these?

Has anyone been to these locations, did you plan a trip around location hunting?

Posted by: MacGyverOnline 8 January 2010 - 07:59 PM
For me it's a combination of Google products, image search, maps and standard search. It can be a long drawn out process of following a trail of image results or search keywords. 2-3 hours can flick by without even noticing, strangely it always seems to happen late at night. hmm.bmp

For example I located the Madonna church by doing an image and map search in Google for Vancouver churches.

The print shop above was the result of a combination of searching businesses in Vancouver (again in Google) with street addresses of 692 and printing stores then visiting the locations in Google maps street view.

Others have actually visited the sites and kindly allow the use of their photos on this site. Their names are listed at the bottom of the http://www.macgyveronline.com/pages/locations.html

Amazing how you find all these places, without even having been there. Brilliant work!

Now I have something that struck me last time I was in Vancouver (August 2008). I stayed with friends in an apartment building that was next to the Qube aka the Phoenix Building, on West Georgia St. On my first day off I wanted to try and find the place where Mac's houseboat had been. Maybe it would be a long search, but I had all day to myself, the weather was okay, so why not. Munching my breakfast I looked out the side window (the one from which I could almost touch the Qube, and saw the marina down behind. And suddenly I recognized it. This was the Bute Marina. I had no idea that the houseboat and the Phoenix Building had been that close to each other, maybe 200 meters.
Why am I telling this now? A few days ago I watched a few episodes of season 3, with some panoramic shots of the Phoenix Building with a bay and boats in the background. And now I knew that if the camera angle would have been just a little more to the left, we would have seen the houseboat. But I believe they avoided to show the houseboat, to give us the idea that it was located in a whole different area.
Maybe this is a well known fact, but new to me. I made some pictures at the time, but don't know how to post them.

Well, one time I was looking for the locations from 2 season 'Eraser' episode, with the Google Earth, But I didn't found. So I just rolled the map with computer mouse, just for fun. And the I saw a some warehouse and the warehouse's front wall, doors and windows and then I wondered that looks same as a Nightmares episode warehouse. The buildings in Google Earth are sometimes 3d pictures, but sometimes you see only the roof. So I opened the Bing Map and checked the place with birds eye view. It was just a luck, that I found that place biggrin.gif

Pictures match the same
A = same slide
B = same roof

B is wrong.

In the over head view B is right next to water. Where is the water in the episode view?

Whats the other picture showing. It looks like a really old and bad satellite image.

Can you give us some screen shots from the episodes to compare?

Posted by: MiracleMac 24 November 2011 - 10:51 PM
The bad satellite image is taken in same place in 1994. It's one proof, that episode was filmed in there, because you see the two slides, which are going down to the water. And these slides you see in that episode.

This is some pictures the compare the place.

Second compare image.

Posted by: KiwiTek 24 November 2011 - 11:10 PM
yeah those two pictures look like a good match. Which episode/scene are they for?

Your earlier B photos still don't match though, both the roof size and location don't match up for reasons explained in earlier post. One's by water and one isn't.

Posted by: MiracleMac 25 November 2011 - 06:36 AM
You are maybe right about that B picture, but anyway that episode where you see that fire post is Soft Touch. In that scene Mac chase the black van where Yuri and Penny was kidnapped.

happy_dance.gif

I admire how you guys can track these locations, even ones that aren't there anymore. Can you tell us a bit more about how you found them? Was it difficult and did it take a lot of time? Do you have a special method?

Keep up the good work! clapping.gif

Posted by: MiracleMac 1 January 2012 - 12:35 AM
Well usually when I try to find some location, I watch clearly the episode if I see something a shops names or address plates to looking for the place. And if some episode is filmed in Los Angeles downtown, and I see some tall buildings, so then I open google earth and I compares building with 3D building system, or try to check with google search some buildings in Los Angeles area. It's usually takes lot of time, but sometimes if you have seen some place before where the scene is filmed or you know where it could be, so then it's easy to find. And in Vancouver area is very easy usually find the locations, and if the scene is filmed in other place than in downtown, so then the mountains help me to find the place. And sometimes It's just a luck to find some location whistle.gif Special methods are: Buildings / buildings names, address plates, mountains.

It's not a difficult, when I know how to find them biggrin.gif

That Ford Assembly Plant opened in 1930, closed in 1950's. In 1970 Port of Long Beach bought the assembly plant and then Nielsen-Beaumont Marine Inc was established in 1980 and thats why we see the abandoned boats in there. Plant demoslished in end of 1990.

Hi everybody!!!

Last March I was in London and I had time to go to the places where it was shooted the 2 movies of MacGyver. I will upload the pictures step by step in these days. Maybe it would be a good idea to have a topic called London or UK locations. It depends on the administrator if he consider it oportune.

The first place I visited was Jubilee Gardens, the Big Beng, Westminster Bridge and County Hall.

Posted by: mazinger 10 April 2013 - 07:27 AM
This is the photogram of Trail to doomsday. It appears this monument.

Posted by: mazinger 10 April 2013 - 07:33 AM
The monument is in memoriam of the Intenational Brigade who figthed in The Civil War of Spain.

Posted by: mazinger 10 April 2013 - 07:36 AM
In the other side.

Posted by: mazinger 10 April 2013 - 07:41 AM
Here we can see the Big Beng and Westminster Bridge. I think it was shooted in the same place where today is situated London Eye. In the last photogram we can see a part of County Hall (walls), more or less the same place of London Eye.

I know that in USA and England It appeared the movies (Both in a pack for all people who bought the 7 seasons previously, but in the rest of european countrys not. So I would have to buy the all 7 seasons again if i want to have the movies in DVD.
