Interesting... I would certainly hope for it to go the way of the original show and stick to the original source material. Maybe RDA will be a part of the project, this time. He never did make it to the big screen anyway, right?
"Walk in love. Walk in service. And you will walk in honor." (Good Knight MacGyver) "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow." - Albert Einstein "What are ferrets made of? Happiness."
Zlotoff has never been able to find a production team that understood the character or could provide a script which did justice to - or in some cases even understood the general idea of MacGyver.
They had James Wan booked in to direct at one stage, but then the company stuffed around to much so he went off to do Fast and Furious.
Zlotoff seems to be focused on the books at the moment, but who knows what could happen after that.

It's going to stir up the same crap the reboot had to deal with. The fans don't want anything new if it doesn't feature the original actor and they all keep their hopes that he will do it but it's never gonna happen. High time that it gets through to us. He's retired and he's nowhere in shape and he's not going to be able to do any stunts himself. It's NEVER gonna happen and it's time we accept it and that we respect RDA's decision that MacGyver is so much behind him and that we move on.
And if... IF there is ever going to be a movie it'll either be with Lucas Till or even a completely new actor. I don't get at all why they would bring back Jared Padalecki from the failed spin-off that didn't even made the broadcast. Having said at all that I'm in favor of our character to live on, but it's not going to be with RDA no matter how hard we want or hope for it because it won't.
Zlotoff seems to have a great new site worth checking out.

Yes!
Unfortunately the majority of MacGyver fans seem to be more RDA fans than they are MacGyver fans which means new projects are always going to fail until that balance moves in the other direction.

I guess I am unique.. I loved the original show I have all 7 seasons and the 2 tv movies
But
I love the Reboot Franchise and plan on getting the last 2 seasons of that on DVD
I also Have the Pilot for Macgyver 2003 on DVD
and Heck I will go one step further if I could I would put the 2 Commercials (the I think Visa card in 2008 and the Car comercial) on DVD
and if the lost pilot from 2016 ever leaked I would grab it and put it on DVD
I own the comic book series and loved it Played the mobile game and Loved it Own the Novel Macgyver Meltdown (sadly On Ice is next to impossible to find)
I love the character and want more from him.. though If Lucas Till was cast as Macgyver in the movie I wouldn't be upset if they actually took a few more cues from the original series and allow Lucas to actually lead rather then be apart on ensemble
but right now even this is in question it upsets me that Mac is back in development hell

He's not even in development hell. There are currently no new plans with the character at all. The reboot is finished and nothing else is coming. There is absolutely no question of a future film with or without Lucas Till. We all love the character and we all want more but we don't have anything to want and when we get something 9,9 out of 10 times we ARE going to be disappointed simply because the comparison with the original will be drawn and second because we WANT to be disappointed. Unfortunately that's the reality and human nature.

it upsets me that there are no new development for Macgyver..
I plan on reading the novel in the fall so I have my "season 6"
There are just as many people it seems (mostly on Twitter) that hard set on anything MacGyver having to do with Lucas and the existing team with him. They are still calling people and can't accept the truth yet and it's kinda sad to watch.

But why does it upset you? The reboot wrapped up only six weeks ago. How could you possible expect any development whatsoever when it just wrapped up? Face it. It's OVER! Probably for a very long time and it's just the way things are.

That's unfortunately how fandoms works these days. Always looking for the negative side on things and then claim they're not the problem.

Even though chances for a renewal are slim, it's fun to call CBS out on their behavior (of cancelling several shows this season after waves of harrassment on set made the news while renewing "Bull" despite paying 9.5 million to avoid a lawsuit for sexual harrassment).
A bit like David against Goliath - or MacGyver against the villain
Also, it can't hurt to show CBS that there is still interest in all things MacGyver-related, in whatever shape or form. If there wasn't, Zlotoff wouldn't have written new books or launched the musical last year.
The launch of the MacGruber-TV-Show on Peacock this season also might keep the talk about MacGyver going, so that's not bad, either.
That's always a sign you might be in trouble if your dashboard is on fire... Currently blogging about the MacGyver Reboot on Dashboard On Fire

As i said in the reboot forum its just the uncertainty of will we get any more ever.... again if the time line went
Macgyver 1985-1992 Macgyver tv movies 94-96 (a third one and final Mac vs Murdoc tv movie) Macgyver 2003-2005 (with Jared Paladacki as Clay) Macgyver 2016-2021
along with books Videogames action figures etc
I would be fine with it...
but there was such a long gap from the last tv movie till really the 20 minute mini episode car commercial thing and then another 4 years between that and 2016's Macgyver it kind of makes me sad...
And maybe you don't like the reboot and fine I get its not for everyone but for me I loved the original I loved the reboot I was sad when the original ended and i was like 5 and I am upset now.
I am a fan of the original show but I would not necessarily say I am a RDA fan. Seen little of his other work. My point is -
I would except another actor playing Macgyver in a movie. Though I would hope it’s truer to the style and character than the reboot was.
Each Fandom has very broad spectrums of expectations and desire. It’s a mistake to believe all fans desire the same things. Maybe 2 people share certain opinions but disagree on everything else.
Using the Spectrum measurement I would say on one end is total purists. For Macgyver that would be the original series and nothing else. Even if RDA was not retired some would never enjoy him in new Macgyver because he is older and it’s not the 80s and styles are different. All fandoms have people like this,
Than the opposite end of the spectrum are loyal to the brand. They will except anything new with MacGyver. It does not matter the style or medium.
I am probably somewhere in the middle. But there have been few variations available to choice and judge.
I do think it’s a mistake to overexpose a character. The reboot ended recently. It could be many years before anyone tries again.
I am not sure that Macgyver leads itself to big screen movies. In this modern age it would be heavy on the action over the smarts of the character. I would imagine it would be like Mission Impossible films. I am a fan but generally fans of the original tv series never excepted the movies because its a completely different thing.
I would rather the character be retired and enjoy the reruns of either show than turned into brand name that can be slapped on to anything to make money.
The way Hollywood "re-imagines" everything these days, I wouldn't be surprised to see a female MacGyver. Heck, maybe Desi or Riley can step into a new role
2. The OG fans would rather complain than enjoy any new offerings. Regardless of what's put out there, the fans complain. It cost too much, there's no Phoenix foundation mentioned, there's someone else instead of Pete, It's not RDA so it's not MacGyver, CBS is just trying to make money.. the list goes on. And so offerings are made to us, but we complain and don't buy them and the producers of said items don't bother making any further offerings because, yes, they are trying to make money (that's what businesses do) and if you don't buy their stuff they wont make any more - that's how the world works.

I think a continuation of the original timeline using a grandson/daughter from SAM as the main lead is the only real way forward for the franchise.
It solves all the problems. It allows them to be modern while still following the original series timeline and ideals as well as allowing the original actors to reprise their roles - even briefly if that's all they want to do. It would also remove the inevitable comparison to RDA or total rejection because it's not RDA.

Interesting explanation though.
It's really the complaining that puts me off and it's in every fandom like that because "it's not the original."
