Well, it was definitely better than the original series' birthday episode! Haha. (Not that that's setting the bar high at all.) Kidding aside, I'd say this was one of the stronger episodes of the season.

It was ok. If you thought the "Mac Team" had too many characters, this cross just adds to the confusion, and further takes away from Mac's screen time. Jack (and now Bozer) are both on the make in this one and a tad more concerned about scoring than the task at hand. We learn a bit more about Mac's past in this and all culminating with a Birthday Party. All good! Bozer continues to score more minutes/dialogue and will soon surpass Mac in that department. unsure.gif

What was the point of the opening gambit? (watching show, watching show......) OOOOOOOH! That was the point. Ok, got it now.

This was not a true "crossover." In a crossover, part 1 happens on one show and part 2 happens on the other show. This was more of a "show up."

I enjoyed this episode. Lots of Aw...... moments. Bozer and the doggie... Aw......... Bozer not liking Riley talking to some handsome dude... Aw........

I am starting to accept Lucas Till as MacGyver and not comparing him to original. But I still wish Jack Dalton were played more like Bruce McGill did..... I want the Fly By Night Airlines!

Good creative episode!

Oh wait.... just re-read the description above. There was a Penny Parker in this episode????

If that cutesy-whootsy stuff is what's needed these days to up the ratings and make an episode complete - then they're doing one hell of a job!!!! thumbsup.gif Bozer's bowser as a huge subplot blink.gif Gimme a break! laugh.gif

As expected, she was at the birthday party along with Andie Lee. Don't know why they bothered to make them show up and having to pay them since they're not relevant at all for the plot. Guess they thought they needed some familiar friends for this birthday party.

I really wanted Penny to plant a big one on Mac's lips like in the original.

Actually, I thought it worked better in this episode than in most previous episodes because at least Mac and Jack split up for a large part of the episode. Having Mac team up with Kono gave it a different dynamic, and allowed Mac to take more of a lead role (plus, I simply like Kono more than I like Jack.)

The papier mache rubble was obvious in the close-up disaster scenes. The whole scene where Bozer finds the dog could have been done over - it just looks too fake. Expect a bit more in the day, age, & technology.

I'm a bit confused about the continuity of MacGyvers backstory.

In Episode 2 (Metal Saw), Jack talks with Thornton about Mac and they state his dad left when he was 12.

In Episode 18 (Flashlight), Bozer says MacGyver's dad left him when he was 10.

Did they adjust the age for the sake of another episode or did they just make an error? blink.gif

I guess some things never change. laugh.gif

I quite enjoyed this episode, and yes it was nice to have Mac and Jack apart and (almost) get some alone time with MacGyver.

It felt like MacGyver took the lead in this episode which made it feel much more like MacGyver should feel.

I'm still having real problems following the actual story-line of the episodes. They jump around so much and the scenes are so short, I never really know what the hell is going on. Likewise with the MacGyverisms. They are done so fast you don't have time to see what's happening. There's just a blur of activity on the screen and ta-daar.. it's finished.

Fingers crossed that Riley's new BF is a foreshadowing of Wilt Bozer's impending "exit stage right". With him gone we could have more MacGyver screen/story time... as long as they done' replace him. dry.gif

I was very happy about the amount of MacGyverisms, but it really bothered me how fast they were done and over it (it always bothered me, but not this much for a long time).

Also, I guess this episode blatantly shows the problems with too many people in the team - crossover episodes always have that problem, of course, but if we just look at Team MacGyver only... Bozer, for example. Didn't he say in the last episode he doesn't want to be a field agent for now and prefers to stay in the lab? Bam, he's on the plane after a mission. Again.

If you bring an actor (e.g. Bozer and Riley) into an episode, you have to get them something to do. So he gets to bond with another guy, find a dog, try to find the dogs owner, be jealous about Riley while she gets to do her computer stuff and flirt with another guy.

The dog was a nice touch, but maybe they should have decided on either the dog story or the jealousy story. The former is cute, but I'd rather have scene such a scene with MacGyver. The jealousy story makes more sense for the story-arc, because after they tried to shove the "Bozley"/"Rozer" thing down our throats for weeks, it never got anywhere and I guess they have to solve this before the Season Finale.

(My guess: Bozer gets hurt and almost dies and Riley finally declares her love to him. I still don't see the chemistry, though laugh.gif).

I have to completely agree. I remember Bozer stating he didn't want to be in the field but yet he was on the plane coming back from a mission. I am not sure exactly what he does. I like Bozer's character especially in the beginning eps, but now he seems forced.

The whole Bozer/Riley thing I don't get. I see no chemistry and it is so forced on us. I hope they don't do a Bozer gets hurt for Riley to realize her feelings. That is so cliche. I often wondered that Riley must know how Bozer feels about her so why not say something to him instead of stringing him along.

Personally, I have seen much more chemistry between Mac and Riley and found several episodes with scenes that made me think they were moving in this direction and Bozer is a smoke screen. I saw comments from some regarding the Scissors and Large Blade episodes in particular.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't every look, placement of characters, etc. all designed to tell a story. If so, I have seen no looks between Bozer/Riley but much more between Mac/Riley. She always seems interested in learning about him and actually touched him at the end of the Flashlight episode.

I never thought Mr. Lenkov would make the whole Bozer/Riley thing so obvious from the beginning. He is known for his twists and subtle hints.

Could the bozer/riley thing be for real or is there something else coming??

I mean this relationship stuff is fun in The Big Bang Theory and needed, and works well. But it's a waste of valuable space in this series. That angle of Bozer peering at Riley just when we (the audience) are trying to build some momentum in the crisis de jour - was annoyingly inappropriate. He's relatively new to the team and running around like a jealous dog in heat & at critical times.... and Jack's not much different in that respect. All that was missing was Mac to start lamenting on about how he misses Nikki as he performs his MacGyverism. doh.gif laugh.gif I think they should just rename the show "Mac & Cheese" ..... sorry couldn't resist ..... seriously call it "MacGyver & Company" - perfect, done deal.

I mean I don't want to be a totally heartless dweeb about it .... but their placement/timing of these ubiquitous relationship clips deflates any suspense/momentum that is being built and undermines the seriousness of the situation at hand somehow. Any 'lighter' clips in the TOS were done more tastefully and did not seem to derail it as much. The big drawing card (for my liking) in the original was the building of Mac's character and glimpses into his past, and Harry, and his Hockey/sports passion. If I was a writer that new me well, and wanted to put me off - I would say take out all of the above, and in it's place turn into sort of a soap opera with an ongoing relationship twists/teases ..... which is exactly what they've done. Again, not bad entertainment, just please don't call it 'MacGyver'. doh.gif

If you think about it, devoting time to Bozer in this series is as stupid as it would have been if they'd done it in the original series.
Can you imagine if in the Halloween Knights episode, Wilt Bozer didn't just show up for a few minutes at the beginning of the episode, but instead tagged along with Mac and Murdoc, and then an entire side-story was devoted to Bozer having a crush on Murdoc's sister, and then Bozer showed up again in every episode after that, eventually getting a job at the Phoenix Foundation and going on assignments with MacGyver. It sounds incredibly stupid, but it's what this show is doing. I just can't imagine why anyone thought it would be a good idea.

I understand wanting to have a comic relief character, but the show already has too much comic relief with Jack making wise-cracks every five seconds.

Yup. In all honesty, trying to find some sort of way to accept Mac 2016 over the original is just a normal and desperate attempt of any fan. And for what its worth, most seem to like it judging from the feedback it is getting.

I have said it before. It is not a terrible show to watch. I can watch it. But its just not "MacGyver". You can label The Walking Dead MacGyver too. But it doesn't make it MacGyver.

As for George Eads, to me, he is like a comedian standing on stage with all these jokes up his sleeve but nobody is laughing. And then there is Bozer. Even though he is nothing like the person from the original series (Invasion of the body snatchers), he is the backup clown / comic relief, just in case we weren't entertained enough from the leading comedian.

When MacGyver meets the H-50 team, it just was so awkward with this incarnation of Jack Dalton making a total fool of himself. Thought to myself how well the scene could have played without his appearance.

Yes, too much (attempted comedic) banter and not enough suspenseful build-up. I don't know what the stopwatch would say, but the original had the ratio right! Imo, it's analogous to Star Trek TOS & TNG. A bit too much (philosophical) banter in TNG - when I want lights, camera, action!

This is exactly how I feel towards the series.

Someone reminded me I never posted the ratings for this episode wink.gif

So here they are (via Showbuzz; but don't have the original link at hand anymore). I remember expecting them to be a bit higher. But I guess for a Friday 8pm timeslot in March it's not so bad. 8pm is a bit early if the weather is nice. People might have preferred to stay outside for a bit longer.

This episode was also rather enjoyable but this crossover sort of makes me think... Since Lenkov and his team are behind both shows, do they have same writers? Maybe it explains some of the problems we see with the show, like the rushed feeling we have, the stuff they try to shove down our throats... If both series are still running and they have at least the same writing team, don't you think they're way in over their heads? Just a thought.

I don't mind crossovers at all, because actually pretty much everything is... This episode clearly nods at the Pilot of original Mac. A rescue operation after a disaster. And it was something I think that lacked in the original as well afterwards. Despite it was always Mac trying to preserve nature, why couldn't there be more Mac vs. nature episodes? A flooding, an earthquake, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, forest fires... Maybe because they would be all the same in the end? Maybe. How about more experiments gone awry like Kill Zone?

I liked to see the cast of Hawaii 5-0 in it and I like they teamed up with each of their members. I agree on some things here said. Again Bozer was more in the way then anything else though I liked the dog scenes. But him ism-ing something together... it might have been smart but everyone can make a splint. Also him eyeing Riley all the time with Kalei and being jealous was not exactly relevant. Same goes from Jack trying to hit on Kono. To be real honest after what I saw in Large Blade, I think Riley has it in for Mac big time. Her emotions seemed very real and genuine at the time. I think I rather see them together then Bozer and Riley.

The ending and the fight on the beach was nice to see and the idea of the existence of bullets that can reroute their courses on their own is a rather scary thought.

Can't believe I didn't recognise Penny Parker, how could I, after one rather unnecessary introduction. And Andie, she's that assistent from Phoenix, right?

This episode was not bad at all.

7000!

I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver.

It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.
