QUOTE (Maclover @ 6 September 2016 - 07:49 AM)
Well today I actually don't have either a SAK or leather an in my bag. This is most unusual and will send me home tomorrow to dig them all out of of their hiding places. The problem is that I've been all over the place just lately, have had half a dozen bags packed and shifted stuff around left right and centre. I bet I start pulling my hair out before I find them all.

However, what do I own was the question wasn't it?

So, my EDC tends to be a Leatherman PSTII, I have also started to carry a tiny Classic SD as the file and scissors are great for dealing with a snapped nail desperately in the office. I carry a new Camper if I want a belt knife in a pouch (still can't love it with the white writing on it), that one also often gets dropped into a rucksack. I keep my pride and joy in the driver's glovebox as it's a bit chunky to carry around and is good as a 'get it out for a specific task whilst out and about'. I lobbed it at my stunned daughter who was struggling with a particularly intransigent bag of sweets in the car last week. However, my Craftsman! May have been a bit of overkill for that specific task.

I still want another deluxe tinker, I am weakening.............. blink.gif

Maclover you have a Craftsman!! Wow, that really is an awesome SAK!! thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif Nothing on Earth (or space, as that's what NASA sent on the shuttle missions) that you can't handle! I have a PST II and it's an awesome tool....love those scissors! macsak.gif

Only realized that last night! doh.gif

Never even noticed it before. It's very Rambo-esque. biggrin.gif

But it's cool. I would love to see what else people do with their SAK's in terms of attaching tools or custom accessories.

Hi Barry, well after a long search one day I reckon I've got a Craftsman - it's quite old, my first SAK a v.v. long time ago.

However, you guys seem good at identifying these things what do you think?

user posted image

user posted image

It's not in top condition, but is oiled and all the blades function as you can see. I haven't photo'd it from the correct side, but the shield outline is coloured silver and the main blade states

Victorinox
Switzerland
Stainless
Rostfrei

in full

It lives in a old red leather pouch with a popper closure and as I noted above lives in my drivers glove box for those 'you never know when you will need to slice open a packet of sweets scenarios' LOL.

Interesting about the space shuttle, I read only today that a SAK had gone to space on one, I didn't know it was a Craftsman though. It is an awesome bit of kit and I reckon I could probably diffuse any situation quicker than Mac with it LOL

Looks like a Craftsman. Here is some more interesting news regarding the knife, its variations and the whole NASA thing.

Hi Denizen, a SAK Wiki! I hadn't found that before - thank you.

Yup, I followed the link from your page to this: Craftsman

and mine is the 'Craftsman - current model' the third picture down on the right, with the five tools in the back spine. It's def. more chunky than the camper, but isn't that huge that using the tools might prove awkward, which I sometimes think could be the case with the really fat ones. I must admit that I think the tool selection is excellent, I can't think that I'd ever need anything else on the larger models.

Edit to say - that I love this facility you have on here for adding the links so easily - it makes it so easy to avoid littering the threads with long url links.

I love it Maclover...it looks to be the same vintage as my Huntsman. Your knife is probably my dream SAK...everything you could possibly need (especially for that packet of sweets biggrin.gif ).

My son used the pliers on his SAK to fix his dental braces when the wire let loose tonight. They really are handy tools and I think Mac would be proud of him!

biggrin.gif I'm glad you all like the Craftsman. It seems you can still buy them new Barry (I found one on the famous buying site beginning with A), but again you would get that 'newness'. Having taken a good look at my old one I think the difference with the new knives seems to be in the quality of the material used for the scaling. Comparing the old red scales to those on a new red knife I think the texture of the scales feels less durable on the new knives. Has anyone else noticed it?

NB. Writing that post above, made me go and finally find all the items lurking in their 'wrong' places. The Classic SD mini and Leatherman PSTII (with those awesome scissors Barry!) are back in my bag, the Camper is back on the shelf in the bedroom waiting for the next expedition that I pack for, and the Craftsman is back in the car glove-box. It's all rather reassuring to have found them all.

I don't really get the impression that the scales are of any less quality. The huntsman lite's translucent scales still feel pretty secure and comfortable. As for the Pioneer that i own, it is actually even better with its Alox scales. This knife actually feels pretty indestructible and its tools are tight and firm.

Thanks for sharing with us Maclover! I'm a big space buff and love the fact that a SAK went to space on numerous occasions, including the Int'l Space Station where the Craftsman has saved the day on several occasions. Thanks, too, for the tip on new ones biggrin.gif

After some advice from Barry I had to re-think what I need the most in SAK, and at the and I choose a Handyman.

It works great!

Now my camper can go into retirement biggrin.gif

That's a good looking knife - I hope it serves you well. It's got most of what I would want as well - I'm going to see if it's a cheaper option than a deluxe tinker.

It looks like craftsman, indeed!

Unfortunately I couldn't get it in Poland. It seems that handyman is replacement for it.

handyman is thicker than Deluxe tinker and for that is more expensive. But it has everything I need except philips screwdriver. None the less for me flat screwdriver at the top of can opener, and two another (2mm and 3mm) flathead screwdrivers satisfy me enough as a replacement for philips wink.gif

Inspired by Maclover and MacD, I finally gave into temptation and lust and purchased a new Craftman from the Big A website....I'm impatiently waiting for it to show up in the mail!!

Barry, I've got strong temptation and lust for EvoWood 14. I simply love this classy wooden "evolution" type of grip. Too bad it doesn't have pliers next to the scissors, like Deluxe Tinker.

I really try to fight with this temptation but usually I'm a very weak person when it comes to things like that tongue.gif

I love the Evo's my friend, and have a few of them. The Wenger/Delemont pliers are actually better (IMO) than the Victorinox pliers, which would make the Evowood 14 the perfect SAK. I lose every time when it comes to resisting a new SAK!! biggrin.gif

It's here! Maclover, you weren't kidding when you said it's an awesome kit! I snapped a quick pic today with my son's farm boot. Looking forward to putting it thru it's paces this weekend but I really like it. It's almost the size of the Swisschamp, but has a decent set of tools that I think Mac would like biggrin.gif

I would totally agreed with You Barry in this matter IF the Wenger/Delemont pliers would had open wire cutter not in a form of circular hole which is good for cutting straight wires only dry.gif

But Yes, size of jaws pliers from Wenger knife is impressive and You can do a lot with it wink.gif

P.S. Nice craftsman Barry! I think that Mac would like the boots too biggrin.gif

That looks great Barry, I wish you well to use it. I think it is just a little narrower than a Swiss Champ, but I can't think that I would use any more tools than the craftsman has and I think being slightly narrower does make it a bit easier to handle and use.

Just two layers thinner Maclover, but really all the tools that anyone could need. I've really enjoyed using it so far, tearing down an old wire fence outside and trimming some low hanging branches. Just for fun, here's a pic of one on the ISS. I think you'll enjoy the duct tape action!! biggrin.gif
