Seriously, all this talk about a film but shouldn't a new series, a la Hawaii Five-0, be a better bridge in this day and age of TV series blockbusters?
I mean it would work, wouldn't it?
What would have to change? Hairstyle, clothes. What would stay the same? SAK, Jeep, houseboat, llove of hockey?
How would the ultra advancement of computers and communications help to boost the script and Mac's strategies?
Forgot about the movie thing - let's discuss a whole new series in today's high tech age, changing culture, and new environmental/evil adversaries ........ ???????

One of the biggest arguments against this idea could be something along the lines of "But with everyone carrying mobile/smart phones these days he would just have to call the police or Pete if he was in trouble."
My counter to that argument is this...
Even if he does call someone he still has to wait for them to arrive and mean time he has people trying to attack/kill him. Further, a lot of episodes of TOS were about MacGyver working "under the radar" and helping people in trouble. If you look at shows or films like James Bond, burn notice, Hawaii Five-0 with all there gadgets and gizmos , the films are still about them interacting with people and doing stuff and I see MacGyver as following that pattern.

A MacGyver reboot is in order whether it is a show or a movie.
Doesnt really matter what. The problem is to get a decent script and a decent production at work.
They should try not to work under the originals shadow instead focus on a MacGyver for the now.
Nothing wrong with carrying a cellphone and the SAK can be implemented.
My biggest concern is the separation of Zlotoff & Paramount. We dont want half the package. We want elements in there like familiar characters as well as that iconic theme put in there somewhere i can imagine a string version of the theme featuring a live orchestra. Also some electronic music which would coincide with the shows themes.
This can work but it will need Robert Orci or someone to work on it.

That's a very good point.
While Paramount own the copyright of the work they already have (the old series and Young MacGyver) Zlotoff now owns the rights to MacGyver which means he can make new stuff but can't use anything from the TV show without Paramount's license and they can do what they like with the old show material, but can't make anything new.
Which puts us in a tough spot for any new MacGyver material really.

well it depends what they're willing to offer in return. There has to be a fair compromise and/or reimbursement for both parties and the devil is always in the details.

I would like to see something along the same premise/principle of the show in a movie form.. Perhaps a mini-series. I don't really think a "re-make" with a re-vamp of the original would work.
"It's funny how, when you want time to move along, it never does. But when you're running out of time, it disappears much too soon."-MacGyver (Phoenix Under Siege)
"It's a shooting gallery MacGyver, and we have no guns!"-Murdoc (Halloween Knights)
"We'll never be able to out run it".-Dr.Ludlum "Come on, where's your sense of adventure?"-MacGyver(The Human Factor)
Forget the politics, it's been nearly 30 years since the original. Tonnes of new material out there that one movie could only scratch the surface on. Lots of similarities too - the cold war is on again, Afghanistan still in the news, the chemical companies still spewing their poisons, big oil rules. Then there is the Middle East meltdown, terrorism, GPSs and drones and global warming and save the whales and the internet thing and Ipads and Ipods and Alexander Supertramp types needing redirection and the Stanley Cup Champion LA Kings and the gun debate has never been hotter, and on & on & on.
Just do it!!!
