Getting in a second re-watch this time around:

-Oh, there'll be a part two, and a three...maybe even a four of this conversation.

-Riley with an unwittingly topical Meghan Markle/Prince Harry reference/comparison.

-Picturesque wedding...to say the least.

-Tact, MacGyver. Tact. Have some, my man.

-Prison stints aren't red flags? Well, I guess maybe not for Ms. Davis.

-These guys get arrested a lot. Like even OG MacGyver is like, "come on, guys."

-It's absolutely gonna be Rani's guardian and the king's top adviser, isn't it? I've seen a TV show or two in my time...including this one.

-Never gonna let that Codex thing go, are ya, Russ?

-I definitely believe Riley 100% on her Artemis-37 mentoring story. unsure.gif

-Some Desi backstory...certainly explains some things...but man, these two are hitting yawner territory.

-Now these two I can get behind.

-Called it...but I'm guessing so did everyone else.

-"Too early for fireworks?" Good Mac joke.

-At this point, I'd think I'd rather Bozer moved back in with Mac. dry.gif

-Aww, what chemistry.

-Is Chinese food the chosen sustenance of all computer hackers? It seems any scene with computer hackers on TV or in movies has Chinese takeout boxes in it. laugh.gif

Mehhhh. I think I get how OG fans were annoyed anytime the concept of pairing off MacGyver came up. You have to be able to do it right, like absolutely right, or it just breaks everything about the show down. The biggest issue with this series and it's current attempt is that it's so flat and there's just little in the way of chemistry between the two characters and perhaps actors that you're just waiting for the next scene. This story as a standalone would have been good, but it just got bogged down in the minutia of DesiVer or whatever these things are called nowadays. Juxtapose that with the budding relationship of Russ and Sofia which comes off as fun and the actors work well with each other (after two episodes!) and it really shows how the big "love story" is missing the boat.

I don't know if Lenkov's presence (as harsh as it may have been) kept things sharp or more focused or what, but this season (the new eps anyway) hasn't been doing it for me anywhere near as much...and that's on the heels of what I thought was their strongest season by a longshot (maybe it was Matalas?). I get the jacked up schedule isn't helping, but why is the new story arc relegated to Matty's C-story the episode after being introduced? The writing has to get tighter. Russ's stuff has been good, as has Bozer, but I'm struggling to care much about our hero right now. Enough with the wishy-washy, let's get back to saving the day, both Mac and Desi were more likable when it was just that...and the show was probably better for it. Both shows wrote off Nikki Carpenter. Only one learned their lesson. whistle.gif

I think Desi has no feelings for Mac and has an alternate reason for joining the team. Her role and reasons don’t add up. And this episode solidified that. She was engaged and he died but her parents said she brings many guys but they don’t stick? But she is claiming she’s never dated since her fiancé? Something is off. And shouldn’t she be asking about his feelings for Riley?

Her push and pull does not make a normal girlfriend, or any kind of wife material.

With her back story during codex she should’ve cared about Mac dying not trying to kill him and suspecting him. Her back story is SUS.

Anyway I like the slow but consistent storyline of Mac and Riley.
I know povlove was the one to put these episodes together before he left. I think he screwed the show over unpurpose, cause these last episodes he did were not on par with the previous seasons.

Yeah, it's all really bizarre when you look at it like that. Good point on the discrepancy between what we were told in the Desi's parents episode and what we were told here.

I guess without knowing all-that-much of her backstory her parents could have been referring to pre-army days but who knows.

The "more afoot" thing would at least make some sense for this particular character...but I don't get the sense that's where they are going.

And other than his obvious relationship maturity/insecurity issues, I'm not sure why Mac thinks she's "the one."

dry.gif

That said, the abrupt termination of Lenkov with a handful of episodes in the can that then got pushed to a new season could not have been easy to deal with when it comes to meshing out more succinct storylines. May have been better to nip this in the bud though first chance they got. Instead we have a Frankenstein storyline to hash out.

I don't get what the big deal is. Mac understands what his place is to Desi and he is willing to test it out by living in more normal circumstances outside of the "rush" of the job. According to common thought, most likely they will see it works or it doesn't, that's real life.

I think this Mac and Riley arc is over, especially now that she has her own backstory and relationships to deal with in Hacker University, some of those girls LOOK like handfuls lol.

If Lenkov was still on the show I don't believe we would have had a character LIKE Parker, especially since he had a problem with Lucas's masculinity apparently.

To go from "I'm gonna ask her to marry me to I'm OK with maybe being a fill-in for a deceased fiance" doesn't seem very real life to me...at least certainly it doesn't seem like something most people would just be OK with doing.

But it is TV and suspension of disbelief and all.

RE: Parker...you're most likely correct in that assertion...but I'm still not sure what the purpose of this suddenly appearing unexplained character is either. I don't usually care for ham-handed woke stuff being thrown into the mix, but if there's something they can actually use the character for, great. I hope she isn't there solely for the showrunners/writers to virtue signal post-Lenkov though.

I still don't understand what the point was of having Bozer move out (and not move back in) since they never planned on Leanna coming back and never made Desi or Riley permanently move in. Since Leanna went on an undercover mission with no planned ending date, it would have made more sense to me for Bozer moving out of the apartement they had shared and move back with Mac. (Also, that means her parents didn't know about her demise or they surely would have gotten in touch with Bozer an getting her stuff out of the apartment?).

QUOTE
-Some Desi backstory...certainly explains some things...but man, these two are hitting yawner territory.

I get that it's difficult to undo all the messy storylines by Lenkov (and/or Matalas), but I feel like they're so intent on saving Desi as a character (since Macer obviously has no intent of going the easy way and write her out of the series) that it's happening on the cost of deconstructing the main character.

I think they trying to finish MacDesi without having Riley being the "bad one" at fault for breaking them up and/or having Mac cheat on Desi. They're not doing a too good job on it though tongue.gif

I probably wouldn't find it that annoying if the recent soapy drama plots didn't have that many plot holes.

I really want them to get another season to see what Macer can do with a full season under her wing and not just broken pieces she's trying to put together. So far, I'm not too impressed by the "new" episodes, sadly.

I think that's always been a weakness of the series. The "fleeting" relationships with the guest stars are often far more interesting with more charisma (e.g. Jack and Dawn, Jack and Sarah, Mac and Zoe, Russ and Sofia, Murdoc and Amber) than the ones with the recurrings/regulars that get dragged on and on (e.g. Mac and Desi, Matty and Ethan).

To be honest, I've been wondering if Matalas' influence maybe had been bigger than I thought. Looking back, it feels like he deconstructed a lot of former settings while Lenkov was busy getting Magnum running. While I agree that the short season order for Season 4 needed tighter storytelling, I still think it came witht he cost of de-manteling things that weren't necessary at all. The condensed story-arc with Codex didn't work as well with them shoving the MacDesi story-arc in as well. Either they should have established them being a thing earlier so we actually got to see it (instead of the fighting only), or they should have waited and started it when they got the back-order for more episodes.

He realized marriage is something he did not discuss, hence it was a rush to judgement and action. Most people would have discussed it before doing the do.

-Yup, the exact episode I was referencing. In this series if a daughter of a powerful individual is getting married, keep a close eye on the powerful woman in her life. She'll be the villain. biggrin.gif

-Good point on Leanna's parents. Bozer not living with Mac also makes it harder for them to have the personal talks like they used to. Now it's passing in the halls, etc. I think that hurts the quality.

-Same. They're getting the benefit of the doubt from me based on all the goofiness of the season and its production, but that's all the goodwill they have. Rookie writers or not, the first four seasons just felt sharper despite the show's obvious flaws. Now the flaws just keep beating you over the head.

-Essentially proving that anyone can write a short-story romance, but it takes real talent to book one long-term. whistle.gif

The show might as well end if you have to "become a member" to read the science breakdowns

To be honest, while I do still post them links here, I haven't bothered to sign up. If you don't need to pay for the membership, I don't see the point why he couldn't just have let the posts up on his old and "free" Wordpress blog.
