I forgot, stupid love triangle non-sense.....
But Murdoc working for Codex....
I don't think Murdoc is the type of guy who likes to work for someone else for more than one job to execute. So not sure how that work-relationship is going to end; maybe not too well

In order from more to less possible of working
Murdoc enjoys working for Codex>>>Mac sucking salt through a wooden spoon>>>This love triangle thing being fun to watch
I disagree on the love triangle thing. I hope they bring in a new LI for Riley because this whole triangle really sucks . why don't they bring back her boyfriend from two years ago, that hadn't been resolved.

I am agreeing with you. I am saying it's like a nowadays phone booth; it won't work.

Safety is important, but I think it's a bit strange that all CBS crime/drama shows are back in production with the exception of Blue Bloods, Evil and MacGyver...
Evil was planned for midseason anyway (whenever that is) but Blue Bloods was scheduled for Fall. I doubt that will happen now.
MacGyver is in the comfortable situation to have leftover episodes, but the longer they wait, the faster they run out of material to air. Also, with CBS promoting All Rise for November, they could at least promote MacGyver too. They have material from 6 episodes to choose from. It irks me that they have all this material and don't use it for Fall Season promo to bring back viewers who forgot Fall TV Season even exists
Also, kinda ironic that SWAT - that was pushed to midseason in the Upfronts - is now back to Fall and the CBS show that started filming first with the most episodes in the can (besides MacGyver that had also been pushed to midseason last year)...

I don't profess to have researched (though it honestly seems like Georgia would be more lax...just knowing that state), but it might have something to do with regulations in whatever jurisdiction those shows are being filmed in that has made production more feasible for some and not others.
I find this interesting, I’m hoping the story they printed was a typo. “lingering feelings” makes more sense with Mac and Desi because they were in a relationship, where “natural chemistry” is more Riley and Mac as they have been in sync mostly from the Start of Season 1, they can work out how the other one is thinking....like finishing each other’s sentences.
I find the first one about Mac and Riley interesting as being “linked” obviously can’t be in a literal way like handcuffs as Mac and Riley can both pick locks (Even though it would be awesome to see) so I think it would mean more with something Jack left for both of them in his will, because we had that spoiler episode where in the title it said Jack + GTO and the military funeral I think they were saying Jack died and finished his story (which I would be really sad about) he is one of my favourite characters. They should have replaced him with Russ straight away (as they had good banter in the episode where Russ said “Leroy Jenkins” and he was in security and has the skills. Or if anyone has seen the show Leverage, replaced George Eads with Christian Kane as he was funny with Hardison, the banter he had and he can do his own stunts! No one can replace Jack (I hope he is still alive and come back) as Jack Dalton did in the original after he faked his own death! He used to say “Tricks of my trade”.
Worst thing they did was replace Jack’s character with Desi. She just doesn’t mesh well with the group. There is something lacking - just can’t put my finger on it! It just makes it awkward. The show should be more about the macgyverisms than about Macgyver’s love life. The original didn’t have the drama like a soap opera like Season 4. They really got off track there. Hopefully the new director will put things back on track!

While I think Lucas and Levy have great chemistry, I don't see it in Mac and Desi either.
Season 4 was very plot driven, not character driven. Which was good per se for the condensed season. Yet they screwed it up when adding the MacDesi drama and killing off both of MacGyver's relatives in the same way. There was no time to deal with that stuff and no room for character development.
Also, the time jump of 1,5 years made no sense. They should have gone the usual TV route and make it a time jump of 3 months or so. But no matter how big of a jump, all we got from MacDesi was the drama. No first date, first kiss, falling in love stuff. I think a show can manage that without getting all romantic-dreamy; it's been done before.
They totally screwed up her character by turning her from bad-ass soldier woman and overwatch to whining, jealous girlfriend that doesn't trust in him. It's unfair to Desi and to Levy; she should have been a replacement for Jack, yet when they realized it didn't work the way intended, they pushed her to the side to make room for the "real" Jack replacement Russ. Despite being a regular since mid-season 3, she didn't get a backstory or real character development (similar to Thornton and Cage).
It will be really hard to get her "back on track" to make the audience like her again. I'm curious if they will succeed, since the alternative would be writing her out. We definitely don't need more jealousy when they realize Riley has feelings for Mac.
Judging by the BtS stuff from the leftover S4 episodes, I'll say Mac and Desi will still be together for a while.

we saw the funeral photos when they were filming the GTO episode 4x16 but later Lavonda Till stated they were filmed for 4x14 before she deleted the photos from FB (thanks to overzealous Lucas fans). 4x14 was written by Lenkov and has something with "Justice" in the title so that funeral scene might also fit there... also, Jack could be MIA, so they might have decided to quit the apartement lease and pack his stuff together?

It's pretty clear that Russ is the new Jack. I guess they realized they need to have another "bromance" slash father figure and an actor for the older audience after complaints of Team Phoenix changing to "Teen Phoenix". Some of his lines could be straight out of Jack's mouth. The writers always had fun writing for Jack and now are probably quite happy to have another "vessel" for that.
I think the writers and the producers realized early on that while Desi was a good replacement as an overwatch, she wasn’t as good as a replacement for a character filling the void of the missing bromance that also balances the “emotional void” that Mac sometimes has.
Rebooted Mac - who’s not very good with emotions - has the most successful friendships/relationships with men who are: Bozer, Jack and now Russ. They are very attuned to their own emotions and good at reading them in other people (Bozer and Jack by nature; Russ maybe also by having additional education; maybe a psychology degree?). And even if they maybe made wrong decisions in the past, they’re not afraid to deal with the emotional fallout, embrace their emotions, learn from them and to show them. And (sometimes unconsciously) teaching Mac how to do it and get better at it.
Which Desi clearly can't. She's too much like Mac - not good at dealing with emotions and holding a grudge for quite a long time. And she also sort of lost her status as an overwatch as well when they made her Mac's love interest. She's now simply the girlfriend-ex-girlfriend-girlfriend. It will be very tricky for the new writing team to navigate what they were left with and try to correct the path that was taken in Season 4.

COVID-19 has forced CBS to reduce the episode count for virtually all its scripted shows.
The network has cut down series orders for more than half a dozen shows from the usual 22 episodes to between 16 and 18, Variety has confirmed.
Sources say that showrunners were told the number of episodes in their new season was in flux when CBS set its tentative schedule several months ago. All the shows which have been reduced thus far, among them all three “NCIS” series and “Blue Bloods,” are produced in-house by CBS Studios.
The pandemic caused every network, not just CBS, to shift it schedule multiple times amid production chaos. With the later production start dates and premieres, CBS is hoping that these reduced series orders will carry them through May and the end of the traditional broadcast season. Other networks are likely being forced to make a similar decision regarding the length of their shows this season, due to a combination of scheduling issues and spiraling production costs as a result of the pandemic.
CBS is currently in talks with the outside studios which produced its shows to make the same episode count reductions. Shows such as “Mom,” “Young Sheldon” and the “FBI” franchise could well end up in the same range of roughly 16 to 18 episodes, per sources close to the network.
Here’s what the episode count for CBS studios series now looks like below: Blue Bloods (16) Bull (16) Magnum P.I. (16) The Neighborhood (18) NCIS (16) NCIS: Los Angeles (18) NCIS: New Orleans (16) SEAL Team (16)
