I stole this idea from a James Bond forum and the used it on a yes forum and then I thought why not post it here?

Basically if you could re write history how would the macgyver time line be

I will go first

The first era

The original series would end in 93 not 92 giving us 8 seasons

During the original run we would of gotten a weird but fun NES game
A run of comic books from dC comics
And three books

After the original series we would get three tv movies the two we got in our time line and a third that had Mac versus Murdoc in one all out battle.

We would get a Batman meets macgyver graphic novel in 1999 (because two awesome hero?s who hate guns meeting would be awesome)

2002-2006 the Cw era
The show featuring Jared Padalecki actually happens just called macgyver the ?young? being dropped by episode 2 while some fans grumble about a nephew being added out of the blue Jared does a good job and we get four episodes with both macgyver?s including a series finale where both Mac?s take on HIT and Kane (basically since Murdoc definitely dies in the third tv movie in this time line the show would invent its own Murdoc character called Kane)

We also get a proper PS2 game which reinvents stealth from Ubisoft, basically think splinter cell but no guns and having to use your intelligence and stealth to infiltrate locations

2008-2016

We get one movie on the big screen with Jeremy Renner as Macgyver and Mads Mikkelsen as Murdoc
We get 4 more video games including one set in the 80?s where you play as angus macgyver (which sadly is RDA?s last performance as macgyver

Three books
And two comic books series

2016-present reboot era

We get a proper 2 hour pilot by James Wan introducing us to Lucas till and the one thing I want to change from our timeline besides the show still going strong is thre fold

1. Obviously I am a video game player so a tie in game would be great
2. More episodes with Mac on his own
3. More romance with Riley I just felt these two were better together

Jeez on that time line i get 7 video games a whole third show and a movie along with 6 books


But at least I got the 5 seasons of the reboot

This is not exactly a timeline, this is just wanting more.

If you want a MacGyver timeline, you better start sorting events out chronologically like I once did. It took me two years to complete.

But I would've made an 8th season too with MacGyver and Sam travelling on their bikes as a season length storyline (including an episode or two-parter with Murdoc on their tails in style of the movie Breakdown) and I would've gone for 6 tv-movies instead of 2. One in each genre. The third one could've been a full blown western. Another one with lots of drama in it maybe a romance story for the fifth and in the final one the final confrontation between MacGyver and Murdoc with an ensemble cast of course.

I've thought about what MacGyver games would have looked like too, especially if they were made during the original run of the show. I agree that an NES game would probably have been weird. Probably a side-scroller where you throw Swiss Army knives at enemies. They might have even had MacGyver using guns if they didn't know much about the show. The most faithful element might be collecting items like duct tape and certain chemicals so that MacGyver can build something at the end of a level. A point and click game on the PC could have been a bit more faithful and leaned into the puzzle element more.
