I just got a news alert on my phone that actor Richard Hatch, who played Michael Talbot on the episode "Three for the Road" has passed away after fighting pancreatic cancer.
Mr. Hatch was of course most remembered for his role as Captain Apollo on the original Battlestar Galactica TV series.
I met him twice over the years at two different sci-fi conventions. He was always very approachable / down-to-earth, didn't have a huge entourage around him and enjoyed meeting his fans.
I last spoke with him this last summer. He didn't appear to be sick. I don't know how long he was battling cancer but from what I've found online, "91% of pancreatic cancer patients will die within five years of diagnosis – only 9% will survive more than five years. 74% of patients die within the first year of diagnosis."
Mr. Hatch, thank you for being part of my childhood. I will always remember talking with you, getting your autograph and posing for a picture with you.
Rest in peace.
