The final shortwave broadcast of Canada's iconic time station, CHU, will take place on June 22, 2026.The National Research Council (NRC) of Canada officially announced that the Ottawa transmitter site has reached its end-of-life, bringing an end to over a century of heritage timekeeping that originally began back in 1923.

Unfortunately, the equipment is getting very old and is costly to replace. I listen to shortwave broadcasts, and have off and on since the late 70s. The number of stations out there going quiet gets bigger every year. I'm located in the middle of the state of Pennsylvania, near State College, in the northeastern United States and managed to pick up New Zealand's shortwave station! Before the Internet, this is how I learned about different places and cultures. It's still a lot of fun.
