Showrunner Stephen Downing has died. He was known a prolific writer for drama shows through the 70s and 80s and being the showrunner for MacGyver where he most notably shaped the feel and orientation of the show, the groundbreaking anti-gun trait, and politics that were ahead of their time. He was a dedicated drug legalization advocate and organizer.

He was 87 years old.
