CHAPTER 2

A.J. is ushered into Pete’s office to wait for him. She looks around and is drawn to a photo of Pete and another man. A.J. picks up the photo to get a better look. The man standing next to Pete has a familiar look about him. A.J. is not sure why.
“ That is my best agent and a friend.” Pete said as he entering the office.
“What is his name?.”
“Ah his name is MacGyver.”
“ I feel like I should know him. Does he still work for the foundation?.”
“ No he just left---retired as a matter of fact. He is on a trip with his son.”
“ His son? My mother didn’t mention a son.” When Pete asked “What was that? Your mom didn’t mention what exactly?” A.J. realized she said that out loud and quickly went on with her questions.
“ Does he have a relative named Harry Ja…..”
“ Yes Harry Jackson is his grandfather. He passed away a couple of years ago from a heart attack.”
“ He’s gone!!! But I came all this way!!”
A.J. sat down in the nearest chair. She puts down the photo then places her face in her hands and starts to cries softly. She has not cried since the death of her Mom and Step-father.
A.J. felt a hand on her shoulder. Pete hands her a box of tissues.
“ It will be ok . I can contact Mac . He could be here soon, because I know he will want to meet you.”
“I’d like that. I have a lot of questions for him.”
“Yes you and me both.” Pete thought to himself.
“ A.J. do you have a place to stay?”
A.J. started to laugh. “No I guess not. I came straight here. I was only going to make an appointment to speak with someone. After that , I was going to find a room. When I got here I found out about the position here . I guess in all the excitement I forgot.”
“ She can stay with me.” Nikki said as she entered the office.
“ I have a spare bedroom.”
“Thank you but I wouldn’t want to imposed.”
“ Oh it won’t be an imposition at all and…”
“ And you can keep a closer eye on me. Alright , you got yourself a roommate. This is until I find a place of me own.”
Pete and Nikki looked at each other and grinned. Both were thinking the same thing , she has to be related to Mac. The question is how?????
“ A.J. go and get some rest. We can talk more tomorrow. Nikki can I see you for a moment before you go please? You can wait out in Helen’s office A.J..”
After the door was closed, Nikki turned to Pete.
“ Does MacGyver have any more relatives we don’t know about? Or are they going to keep coming out of the blue like this?”
“ I don’t know” Pete answered
“ First Sam now A.J. that is if she is related to Mac. By the way where is she from? What do we know about her? Did she say anything about being related?”
“ Hold on Pete. One question at a time please.” Nikki said laughing. Then she continued .
“ So far she hasn’t said anything about being related. We do know where she is from Alaska. Based on what she just now said-- she just got in to L.A.. We don’t know more than that because the incident in the records room took place before she was interviewed.”
Pete raised his eye brow.” Speaking of the records room , I heard she can handle herself quite well.”
“ Yes you should see some of her moves. She said something about it being from the male /female ratio in Alaska . And the fact some men don’t understand the word “ No”.”
Nikki started to walk to the door when Pete stopped her.
“ What about the other woman? What was her name? Andria Monroe was it?”
“ Not much more than that right now . I have people checking in to it as we speak. “
“ I think we should find out about her and A.J. .”
“ Yes the sooner the better. Pete are you going to contact MacGyver?”
“ No not just yet. I want to have more information to go on before surprising him with this. He finally has got some good going on in his life now. I want him to enjoy it just a little longer . I have a feeling that trouble is brewing and Mac will be sucked into it again.”
Outside the Phoenix Foundation building , a car with two occupants was parked. The man in the car started taking pictures. They watched Nikki and A.J. get into Nikki’s car. They follow them to Nikki’s apartment. They waited until they saw the lights go on before taking off.
“ Looks like they are in for the night . So let’s go back and developed these photos . The sooner we find out who our mystery girl is the better.”

The fax machine is spitting out A.J. ‘s picture along with her name and other information.
“ Well , well who do we have here? Another MacGyver on our hands and looks like she is as annoying and interfering like the original !.”
“ Wait a minute ! I thought you said that he was the “last” MacGyver ? Then came the surprise of his brat. Man, it’s like the MacGyver’s are coming out of the woodwork.”
“ Yes that thought had occurred to me. And as much as it makes my stomach turn, it will work to our advantage”
“ How?”
“ Well the original would want to “Rescue!” this new relative. It won’t be long before Pete will contact him.”
“ If he hasn’t already.”
“ No… if I know Peter Thornton and I do. He won’t until he knows more himself.
“ But when he does……..”
“ Yes my dear , when Peter does contact him it will be a matter of time before we have a MacGyver family reunion and funeral at the same time.” Both started laughing.
