Here's the conclusion to this story. Maybe I'll have another one started before I begin my new job next week! 460.gif Anyway, enjoy!

No Trespassing Part Five
Rated: PG

“I don’t believe I’ve ever seen you drunk before, MacGyver,” Chuck said, sitting by his friend’s bedside and watching as he slowly woke up, his brown eyes open to small slits.

He smiled as he watched MacGyver and at his own pathetic attempt at a joke, trying to do anything to lighten the situation. Once he was cleared of all charges against him and released from the jail, he immediately rushed over to the hospital to see his friend. He was shocked by his condition. He was lying on his stomach, his back too bandaged and stitched to put any pressure on it. His left arm was immobilized; his dislocated shoulder set and bound up in a sling to prevent further damage. It looked incredibly painful, and Chuck could understand why the doctors had him so heavily sedated with pain medication. He didn’t know if MacGyver was lucid enough to understand him, but he wanted his friend to know he was there anyway. About the worst injury he’d ever seen MacGyver have was a broken arm, but this was much worse. It angered him to see him with so much damage to his body, and he wished he could have beaten the Howard brothers to a pulp one more time for what they had done to him, but he restrained himself and knew that justice was about to finally be served to them.

MacGyver looked at Chuck, his vision cloudy for a moment but clearing as he stared. A lazy smile spread across his lips. “I must look like I’ve been through a meat grinder,” he said.

Relieved to hear his friend’s voice, Chuck smiled and held his right hand. “Well, thankfully the doctor told me it looks worse than it is,” he said. “There will be a lot of pain and it will take some time to recover, not to mention the tons of stitches you had to get, but you should be good as new in no time.”

MacGyver stared at Chuck for awhile as if he wasn’t sure he was really there, wondering if he was a hallucination brought upon by his hazy, drugged state. “You’ve been released,” he said.

“That’s right, Mac, I’m really here,” Chuck said, smiling. “All charges against me have been dropped.”

“That’s terrific.”

“After what they’ve done to you,” Chuck said, his voice laced with anger, “and with Jesse finally caving and admitting that the Howard brothers bought the gasoline using my credit card account information, the police think they have a solid case against those two. I heard that Tom Howard has already confessed.”

“It’s good to…have you back, Chuck,” MacGyver said, blinking slowly.

“You too, Mac,” Chuck said. “Of course I know you’ll pull through this. You’re a fighter, always have been.”

“So are you.”

Chuck smiled and gently squeezed MacGyver’s hand. “I appreciate what you’ve done for me,” he said. “You never gave up on me.” He sighed, looking at MacGyver’s bandaged body. “I just wish you didn’t have to get hurt in the process. Mac, I’m so sorry this happened to you.”

“Wasn’t…your fault,” MacGyver said, his eyelids growing heavy. The effects of the medication still left him feeling groggy, and he began to drift away into sleep.

Chuck watched him, still holding his hand for support. He could feel it grow limp. “Rest, Mac,” he said, “I’ll be right here waiting when you wake up, okay pal?”

Suddenly, he felt MacGyver stir again, and he heard him moan. His dark brown eyes opened again and he looked at Chuck. “What’s…gonna happen now?” He asked.

Chuck frowned. “What do you mean, Mac?” He asked.

“The condos? Are they still going to be built?”

“I don’t know,” Chuck said. “Apparently George Howard is pretty upset over what his boys did. I guess it goes to show you that being an unethical sleaze ball doesn’t necessarily run in the family. That doesn’t mean he won’t stop the project, though. He’s supposed to be making an announcement on the news today.” Chuck looked at his watch. “In fact, it should be on any minute.”

He turned on the TV in the hospital room and turned up the volume. MacGyver was vaguely aware of it, still fighting off sleep. He couldn’t see the screen very well, but he could hear the broadcast and he felt Chuck sit beside him again.

“Here it goes,” Chuck said, sighing. He took MacGyver’s hand again. “We’ll see what he has to say.”

George Howard, tall, graying, and dignified, appeared before the bank of microphones for his press conference. He looked grimly down at the floor and appeared to be contemplating what he wanted to say before he looked back up at the cameras with a steady yet emotional gaze.

“I was…disheartened to learn of the actions of my sons on the Rock Point Ridge project,” he said, his voice shaking. “I can assure you that I do not condone what they’ve done nor will I seek a lighter sentence for them. They have caused major destruction and harmed the reputation of an innocent member of the community of Pine Grove, and they must pay fully for their crimes.”

“Does this mean you will cancel your plans for the subdivision?” A reporter asked.

George looked back down briefly, and then returned to fixing his gaze on the reporter. “The status of the project is that it will be on hold until I travel to the town of Pine Grove myself and see whether it is still feasible or not,” he said. “I’d like to hear from the townspeople in an honest, open forum where everyone is welcome to participate. I want to know their opinions before I decide to continue. It’s obvious that my plans for the area have caused a lot of dissension and unease, which unfortunately led to the tragic events there recently and to my sons’ misbehavior. I’d rather avoid such events in the future, and if my project is really going to prove more of a liability than an asset, I’d like to know about it before I proceed.”

Chuck got up and turned down the TV, and then he returned to MacGyver’s bedside. “Can you believe that?” He asked, smiling. “Mac, he’s actually going to listen to us for a change!”

MacGyver smiled faintly. “I told you that you could make some progress,” he said.

“You sure did,” Chuck said. He looked sympathetically at his friend’s condition again. “I just wish it hadn’t taken all of this to convince him.”

“I know, but he’s still coming. That’s something, Chuck,” MacGyver said, closing his eyes.

“Yeah,” Chuck said. “Yeah, it is something. Thank you, MacGyver. Thank you for everything.” He didn’t hear a response. When he looked at MacGyver, he saw that he had fallen into a deep sleep. He smiled at him. “It’s all right,” he said. “Rest, buddy. You deserve it. I’ll be here for you when you wake up again. I’m not going anywhere this time.”

Hi MacsChick

I really love your stories. They are so... MacGyverish. And you're a good writer - looking at language, spelling, graphics. Wonderful. I really enjoy reading your stories. I would even read them to my children - if they were interested... laugh.gif

A true shame they will never make it to TV with the real MacGyver.

Keep up the good work.

O’Neill: I don’t know what to do
Carter: You spent seven years on MacGyver, and you can’t figure this one out?
You used to be MacGyver, MacGadget, MacGimmick.
Now, you’re Mr. MacUseless.

Thank you for the compliment, Everhappy! smile.gif Some of my stories are a little darker, and I don't know if they would ever have made it to the MacGyver show, or if your kids should read them ( ohmy.gif ), but I have fun. I like to explore all kinds of different possibilities for Mac, things that might not have been thought of or covered fully in the show. There's more to come! biggrin.gif
