After just finishing a MacGyver/Murdoc marathon and thinking of a similar poll myself, I've decided that Strictly Business is my favorite nasty episode, where Murdoc does the most damage to MacGyver (rocket launcher and amnesia) and his evil is at its peak. Halloween Knights is a close second favorite. It's a rare episode where the hero and villain must work together, and we get to see some of Murdoc's weaknesses as well (snakes!). Plus, the idea that he has a sister brings a little more dimension to his character.

You also left out Serenity, and mentioned why.

Oh- that's tough. As I'm sure I've said before, I'm no good at choosing! I love all the Murdoc episodes. That was one of the things my brothers and I most looked forward to when watching MacGyver as kids. I went with "Cleo Rocks" though I was kinda torn between that and "Partners". I almost said "Partners" just because I've seen it so many times. It's really funny to see MacGyver and Pete and Jack all involved in the episode- fighting Murdoc! And the whole origin story of how Pete and MacGyver met is pretty cool. But I think I like "Cleo Rocks" because it shows a more human side to Murdoc- we get to see his creative side, through his music and poem. And he may have even been falling for Penny Parker! - But he knew he could probably never really have her. And we also see another of Murdoc's disguises as Jacques La Rue! But the main thing I loved as a kid was seeing MacGyver trapped where he was about to be killed- and Pete was trapped too! That was very suspenseful the first time I saw it. I remember wondering how MacGyver would get out of that- with him being trapped and about to be squashed- but if he kicked the gate open he would release Pete's cage and Pete would die. And once again, MacGyver does like Captain James T. Kirk so often does- he changed the rules! MacGyver always finds a way for everyone to live- and Mac found a way to free Pete first before worrying about his safety. He always thinks of others before himself- I love that! "No one's gonna die!"- MacGyver in "Trail to Doomsday" I love that optimism of MacGyver- and it was so cool to see him come through and rescue everyone. And then of course, he beat Murdoc in his usual inventive way... It's a great episode- one of my favorites.

OK...I’ve decided. It’s gotta be Strictly Business. Halloween Knights is great for it’s uniqueness...hero helping the bad guy...I love how they play off each other! I love Partners, but Murdoc’s not really after MacGyver...it does show us how it all started, though. *thumbs up* I like Obsessed, how Murdoc messes with Mac’s head and almost gets him to the point of doubting himself. Serenity...I love that ep! But I don’t think it’s the strongest Murdoc/Mac episode. What I liked most about Cleo Rocks is how Murdoc tries to make him choose between himself and Pete...but of course, Mac has to have it both ways! Widowmaker’s another of my favorite eps...I love how Murdoc showing up forces Mac out of his funk. OK...so why Strictly Business? First I love how Murdoc plays cat and mouse with Mac. He plays with Mac in Obsessed...but I like how things play out in SB better. Murdoc has Mac in his clutches so many times! Once he chooses to let him go...then he just outright fails, and then he’s interrupted...and then he rigs the mine to force MacGyver’s memory. And I think that’s what clinches my vote for Strictly Business...the irony of Murdoc helping MacGyver remember who he is.

ok.. I'm stuck between The Widowmaker and Strictly business.
I think the Widowmaker is a better overall episode, but I'm not sure if it's a better Mac/Murdoc episode... if that makes sense?
Yes it does. Murdoc actually came after MacGyver when he had weak moments. In Strictly Business he came more unexpectedly and though warned, he gave MacGyver a serious blow in that.

Strictly Business. The only reason I chose this over Widowmaker has to do with the timing of the airing of the original episode. At the time it originally aired, there was still some question about a season 7. It was a real suprise when Murdoc blew up Mac's car; was this the time Murdoc really got MacGyver?
Widowmaker played on Mac's vulnerability and fears. Strictly Business was more about trust and the breach of that trust.
Of all the Mac/Murdoc episodes, these 2 are the best.

The Widowmaker is my favorite! It's got alot of action and suspense. Besides, what's worse than Murdoc with a flamethrower?! The only unrealistic thing about tihs ep, is how he "dies". NOBODY could have survived that fall unless they got lucky and landed in a river, but still, the impact of hitting water that hard would shatter your bones!

I voted Halloween Knights mainly because I liked the interaction between Mac and Murdoc and how we got to see some of Murdoc's weaknesses, I laughed the first time I watched Mac carry Murdoc across the snake pit.
My favourite lines:
Murdoc we had a deal but you said no guns! Don't split hairs with me
Murdoc: Peter Thornton it's been a long time Pete: Murdoc, but your dead Murdoc: Would you care to join me? - Cleo Rocks

Went with The Widowmaker, although it was a really tough call.
Widowmaker Strengths (for me) - one word: petulance. Love the brooding Mac. Love the grief, etc. Love the Mac/Nikki stuff. Love 'Bye, bye, time to fry'. Love the flamethrower. Love the serious opportunity for Mac angst on the mountain and all the fun us fic writers can have with it. Love the moment Mac realizes what's going on. Lots to love here.
BUT...
One thing makes 'Strictly Business' a very serious contender here and my honest vote, as it does have better Mac/Murdoc interaction.
And that one thing (for me)?
Mac with the shotgun.
Oh, thank you, thank you... some of you know my theories of Mac and guns. Anesiac Mac is great in and of itself, but throw me a bone on his previous gun usage and I'm on that like a dog with a bone. Oh, yes, this episode should get my vote, but I can't vote against old friends falling to their deaths, as cliche as it is in this series. Give me my emo-whump, please. I love the physical whump of Strictly Business, and the shotgun just gives me squee, but I had to vote for my numero uno episode.
Ok, done now.

Ok, let break these down:
Partners: Mac and Pete meet, so do Mac and Murdoc, as do Jack and Pete. My husband say to put that Murdoc is disguised in the hospital as a nurse (yup)
Widowmaker: Murdoc with a flamethrower!
Cleo Rocks: Penny Parker
Halloween Knights (Murdoc needs Mac's help! )
Serenity: Old west dream sequence
Strictly Business: Mac is hurt and being chased by Murdoc
Obsessed (I just watched it: read my synopsis on the episode discussions)
My vote: The Widowmaker!!!

Love the Widowmaker because Mac/Nikki and Mac is grieving. But Halloween Knights is great, too. That got my vote because it was amazing to see them together after all the years of hatred! It actually kind of made me mad that they broke this and had Murdoc come back as evil again. My favorite lines from Halloween Knights:
Murdoc: "They've kidnapped somebody close to me, MacGyver." Mac: "Someone is close to YOU?" Murdoc: "You see, I could have killed you there, Macgyver."
And..
Murdoc: "You see, Macgyver, that's why you're so hard to beat. No one knows what you're going to do next. Including you."
