I thought this scene was from the opening gambit of the Gauntlet.. but I just watched it, and it's not there.

is this another edit in the DVD copies?

I thought that this scene fragment is from 'Golden Triangle' when Mac is under that tarp covering the ordnance being stored in the middle of the village... just before he blows it sky-high with a pen-style flare and an inflatable raft.

... but it's not. I just watched that scene. Ill have to think about it some more... *puts in another DVD*

I think this picture was definitely taken during the filming of 'The Map' (gambit before 'The Gauntlet') He's wearing that khaki vest and purplish shirt, and the criss-cross pattern in the background matches exactly the window that he opens with his SAK. The scene we 'see' in the episode is from the other side of the glass.

EDIT: Ah HA! He does have a chain on the end of his SAK in this ep... we see it when he uses it to knock the key out of the door... this pic has to be from footage shot during this ep, but not used.

After just viewing "The Map" opening gambit of "The Guantlet" episode- I would concur with Lothithil.

I was sure I'd seen this shot in the episode. Maybe it's just those mushrooms affecting me again.

The SAK is a Wenger, not the usual Victorinox. I don't know if all Wengers have chains.. but the one I brought once did. (until I took it off... damned annoying thing, it was)

I think we've been eating the same mushrooms... I would have sworn the same.

This is from no episode, I think... another one of those re-shot scenes that they made just for the intro.

Did they re-shoot some of the scenes from the original intro so that the audience would recognize Mac with his longer, lighter hair and fuller frame?

Loth, incredible. I have ALWAYS looked for that scene,expecting it perhaps to be in an unaired pilot or something, but you just pointed out the obvious. My next question is does anyone know anything about the episode length changing? I remember way in the past it was discussed that in the 80's there was marginally less commercial time, so by the time us gen Y'ers were catching it, scenes were cut for 00's length commercial breaks. Does anyone have the first season on DVD?...Okay, dumb question, does anyone who has the first season know if the Gauntlet retains that scene on DVD? Or did it air back in the 80's? Or is it, as Loth said, straight up footage that got cut?

The scene isn't in the DVDs. So it must be a cut scene... that is to say, that they choose to use a different angle to show that scene.

It's normal for them to film from different angles when they do a scene and then go with which ever works best in the editing room, so I would say that was the case here.

Check the eppy Black Corsage. I remember the blue shirt.

They used at least . . . let's see . . . six different blue shirts that I can think of offhand, probably more, and I don't remember that specific one without going back and re-watching a bunch of episodes.

Rock's right about shooting extra footage -- the last thing they ever want is to end up in editing and realise they're missing a shot. On the other hand, every foot shot costs. It's a balancing act amongst limited resources.

yes it appears in the 6th season credits.

I have this promo image of the outfit; I don't actually know whether it was taken during shooting of "Walking Dead", though. But there's a brick wall, which matches the clip in the credits.

I've just watched Black Corsage and, the shirt in that isn't the same color as this one. so that's out.

I really don't think it was used in an episode. And I stick to my last post, that it was filmed during the Black Corsage for the new opening credits of season 6. I think if you stick in season 5 you might find the answer but I think Black Corsage is your answer. Probably made during that making of that episode. If it doesn't convince you check other blue shirted episodes.

There's Cease Fire but that was light blue and I think the same one as in The Gun. Second Chance that had both light as dark blue. But I think the dark blue one has had markings of some sort.
The Children of Light episode. Could've been light or dark blue but I think it was dark blue, or looked like it considered the weather circumstances.
I think he also had a blue shirt on in Live and Learn.

There's not any other episode in season 5, I can further recall when he has a blue shirt on.

Come to the think of it Children of Light and Live and Learn might be possible candidates for that shot.

But don't be disappointed if it's not in an episode. Not everything that is in the opening credits comes directly out of episodes. What they used as a last shot for the opening credits of season 5 is nowhere to be found in the series. It could've been made during Cease Fire.

But like our first clip of Mac (up at the top of the page), I don't think the clip was used in an episode. I think it was a deliberate re-shot of the clip that ended the intro from the first season (from the gambit 'The Map').

He wears that same shirt for a few scenes in Children of Light also.

and the fact that this clip appears in season 6 means it wasn't filmed in season 7.

Nope.

He wears two different blue shirts in "Children of Light", and neither of them is this one. The first one is very similar in shade and 'hand' to this one, but does not have the front pockets or the same size collar fall. The second one isn't even close to the same shade, is a different fabric, and also has a smaller collar fall.

Which makes it even odder. Maybe they bought the shirt for an earlier episode and didn't use it -- except for promo shots and clips -- then used in Season 7.

This one is a scene from 'The Gauntlet'. You can just see the barrel that Mac is rolling, about to set up his 'barrel barrage'.
