What shows or movies can you think of that were obviously inspired by MacGyver? I'm sure there's lots. Here are two:
-In the dueSouth episode 'Mountie on the Bounty', the two protagonists are projected from the cargo hold of a ship by extinguishers strapped to their backs, just as Mac and Sam escaped in 'The Stringer.'
-the Stargate SG-1 episode 'Smoke and Mirrors' has a similar premise to that of 'Jerico Games', in which the RDA character is impersonated and framed for a murder (both of which are, incidentally, committed in front of a bunch of reporters on live tv).
Any others?

I actually put this in the Movie Ripoffs category - but i'll mention it here too...
The Kite and Lightning scene from Good Knight MacGyver is re-done (RDA as O'Neill this time) in SG-1's Season 1's Torment of Tantalus.

Um how about National Treasure?
Very MacGyver-like main charecter... they even have some MacGyverisms in there.

Oh yes- definitely see National Treasure. Nay, I'd go so far as to say BUY National Treasure! It's really an awesome movie! It's the closest thing I've seen to a MacGyver movie at the theater. To me, it has some aspects of MacGyver, some of Indiana Jones and a little bit of James Bond. But it doesn't feel like a rip-off of any of them. Ben Gates definitely has the smarts like MacGyver and does perform some of his own MacGyverisms of sorts (using the water bottle for a magnifying glass comes to mind immediately) - the whole operation of stealing the Declaration of Independence felt like a James Bond mission- and of course, hunting for the Masons' treasure felt very much like Indiana Jones. And as it happens, I love all 3 characters so I really enjoyed seeing them all kinda rolled into one- though maintaining Ben's own character throughout it. It's definitely worth watching. I can't wait for the sequel next year!!!

Yes!! I remember watching that episode (I love Due South) and noticing the similarities between those two scenes. Well, similarities, it was more like it was copied from The Stringer!

Until that point in dS, I'd had an inkling that the writers were fans of MacGyver and this scene just proved my point! At least, Mac and Sam didn't do Superman imitations!

'24' sometimes reminds me of MacGyver. Of course, it's a lot more violent and ugly, but one scene that springs to mind immediately was from an ep where Jack Bauer pulled a Macism from Serenity (something involving using stones to create a distraction, I think).
Oh, and as I've mentioned here before, there's a CSI:NY ep from the first season that directly rips off MacGyver. (If I can remember which ep it is, I'll post it here.)

Anyone seen the movie "Paycheck" with Ben Affleck?
He uses all sorts of MacGyverisms to outrun the bad guys. The most obvious was the one in which he uses a paperclip in the fuse box to slow down the metro so he doesn't get hit by it.
And he puts a bullet in one of the valve-kinda-thingy so that it will hit the nitrogen and the entire machine explodes.
Yay for MacGyver!

There's a new movie out called 'Crank', which kinda reminds me of the plot for 'Nightmares', but I know it's based on another film... I just can't remember the title!

This is an old topic, so I hope it's ok to reply to it still.
Burn Notice has a lot of MacGyver elements to it and sometimes feels like it could be a modern version of MacGyver.
