OK, bear with me here, I am slooooowly getting through the episodes and am now into Season 2. I really want to buy the Complete set but am waiting for more reviews to come in-I really like complete footage and editted eppies bother me.
Anyway, so I'm watching Slow Death the other night night and noticed in one shot that the doctor was wearing Mac's Casio DW-1000 digital watch from Countdown. Not only do actors get recycled, but it looks like props do too.
Shot of the watch (not from the episode-I'm not that advanced! )

Cool, thanks! I tried my best tyo pause the opening credits to catch a glimpse but it's pretty tough to get a decent look. That Marathon looks about right from what I saw. I'll have to check out the Gauntlet to get a look.
Thanks! Kev
Heres a capture from the Gauntlet.
It's kinda blurry and yucky. but its the best I can get. Shows how bad the DVD quality is.

Hhmmm, no expert on military watches. Looks unique with the hooded lugs though. Thanks for the screen capture! I hope to find out what type of watch it is.

OK, I noticed almost every watch has been identified but the gold cased chrono Mac wore in the later seasons. I don't remember the title of the episode but it's the one where Mac and Pete go up agaianst the guys who steal the electro-magnetic pulse machine and hold the city hostage. I think they shoot the Jeep Mac's driving (or near it) and the Jeep goes dead. Later, in the diner/coffee shop/filling station Mac notices that his watch has stopped also. Anyway, there is a screen shot of the watch. I noticed it has the word "chronograph" around the bezel, but I couldn't make out the brand, etc.
I thought someone here might have a good chance of grabbing the shot and IDing the watch. It's driving me nuts not knowing what it is.

Hhmmm, I wonder what it is? Doesn't seem to have any branding on it, but I know they've removed that before (like the Casio used by Mac for the countdown). I'll see if any other watch nuts might be able to ID it. I've got nothing.

AHha!!! Thanks to some fellow watch nuts we have identified the quartz chronograph. It's a Seiko model similar to the 7A34-7019, just with a black dial and white sub dials. Here's a pic of it's cousin:

Thanks, but I just asked the question and a few chrono experts were able to recognize the style. I did think it was a Seiko though. Turns out to be a pretty complicated one too, 15 jewel and highly accurate (or could be made that way), again from folks who know better than me.
I was thinking though, that it probabaly is the all white dialed one and the props guys painted the main dial black. It would explain why there's no branding showing and why there's no minute dots like on other variants with this movement. Leave it to Mac to customize his own watch.
Now I imagine the cost of these are gonna go up. Have to see if I can find one.
It actually doesn't make sense that MacGyver would wear a Sieko watch, because they're pretty expensive. It doesn't fit with his thrifty style.
An interesting tid-bit though... I'm pretty sure I spotted RDA wearing that same watch in one of the Regis and Kathy Lee interviews I've put on the videos page. I think I may have commented at the time in a tread about that watch seeming to actually be RDA's own watch.
Doesn't look like either the original or the "cousin" watches are stocked for sale any more. I just looked to see if it can be added to our store, but it's doesn't appear to be a stocked item with amazon. They have some which are similar, but not really the same.

I thought that too, about not going for something too expensive. I don't know how expensive these were when they came out, but probably were up there though, but Seiko watches tend to be less expensive here in the US than other parts of the world, depending on model. I kinda thought about that too, and Mac's style went towards more trendy things, like trading in the practical truck for a nice yet not as practical, vintage truck. Clothes changed too. So maybe it just kinda fell in line with the rest? Just a guess.
As for being his own watch, very likely. I've heard lots of actors wear their own watches, etc since the character they portray is largely similar to them (and I'd find it easier to keep it simple and not go switching things around so much ) (EDIT: I see by the pics from Gatecon that he sports a Suunto Vector quite often, just like Jack does ) I thought too the close up could have been doctored by some dept. post production to take out the brand name.

Kewl. thats pretty close. looks like a newer version of Macs watch.. very similar just the same.
I've just updated the MOL store to show this watch instead of the one we had there.
This is a closer match to the original watch Mac wore, so we'll sell this one in the store now. Its also the most water resistant of the choices.. water resistant to 80 feet.
I'm not sure what the original one is.. I've warn it in the shower with nor problem.. but thats as far as I've gone. The original has a sealed case so water would only get in through the winder if anywhere.. but I don't know if that has a seal on it or not.

No hostility intended, I hope that's not the impression I gave , I just meant I never knew that was the spirit behind the store. I thought maybe profits were larger off of some items rather than others. But since you were saying you'd put up what is closer to what Mac used, I thought I'd mention we could link to his actual duct tape too.

The main object of the store is to provide MacGyver related items.
The Mac-Gear section of the store is specifically for items and gear actually warn or used in the show. Obviously in some cases these items are updated versions, but I aim to get as close to the on-screen versions as I can for this section.
The secondary objective of the store is to cover the costs of running the site. So I'm not putting the most expensive versions of items up to try and get as much money as I can. My priority is providing a reputable quality source of MacGyver products over making an income. As long as I'm able to cover the yearly costs of the site I'm happy.

Yeah, that tape is pretty expensive . BUT, I don't know if you can see how many purchases of that tape have been made, but I would wager that it's the lesser popular of all the products, simply because people can go down to the corner and buy tape. Not so for the apparel and knives and gear. The only way I personally would buy my tape online is if it was the real deal that Mac used. But, I could very easily be wrong.

Here's the one I just bought, since it looked close enough to Mac's to make me happy! (Too bad the second hand doesn't quite line up with the minute markings! )
I bought this exact watch in 1995 before I left for Basic Training. It has been through hell so it's a bit beat up and the band has faded to a light green, but it still works. Weird though, the second hand of my watch lines up perfectly with the hash marks. Can't be beat for the price.
