I really like the "Renegade" episode. MacGyver finds a Navy SEAL who once saved his life is now actually using his Navy training to steal deadly bacteria. And I like the lab guy that was telling Pete and MacGyver about the vial being stolen- he was pretty funny. And I thought this episode had some cool MacGyverisms- yet another time MacGyver's hotwired an elevator, defusing a bomb, and stopping the helicopter at the end. Nice action packed episode. sak.gif duct.gif

I liked this episode. smile.gif

But of course there's a whole lot of things in it the make me think... 'Common!!'

Like... what are all those Phoenix employees doing at a research lab in the middle of the night? Security... sure, but scores of doctors, lab techs, etc? Common! dry.gif That's why the project is over budget... too much unnecessary overtime laugh.gif

and...

um.. huh.gif that was one lame motion detector! hmm.bmp Common! writers, get your acts together (back then) if you can't write him out of it reasonably... don't write him into it. Duh!

and...

Common! Like Steve would really leave a bottle of anthrax dangling out of a fanny pack for anybody to see. THAT was just funny! laugh.gif Could have at least had her looking for a tissue or something and had to have OPENED the pack. laugh.gif

and...

oh.. Pete... he keeps saying, I'll call 911 and I'll call the police. huh.gif I think the threat of an anthrax outbreak is just a tad above the average police officers pay grade. happy.gif Just a tad.

But I liked the episode... Mac helping his old buddy.

That was Colonel Frank Cromwell from A Matter of Time too. smile.gif Only this time he saved our heros life instead of having left him to die. biggrin.gif But he dangled from ropes in both shows. laugh.gif

That was Stephen Furst. smile.gif He played "Flounder" in Animal House and Bruce McGill was "D-Day" biggrin.gif

I voted good. This is not exactly one of my favourites either.
I agree withy MacNymph, the storyline was a bit lame.

Like you would carry around anthrax in an unsecured sack like that.
Especially a SEAL should know that a glass tube is very unstable for a virus like that.

I also thought the actor playing Steve was not that brilliant. I just didn't buy the story.

Maybe it's payed overtime. Or it was just the night shift. Who said by the way that it's the middle of the night? Could've been 8 or 9 pm. Or it was either a dangerous project or difficult or just way too big they were working on.

He comes back for MacGyver's Women. Also his wife in this one played Lisa's mother in Twenty Questions and the commandant or the colonel or whatever comes back als Jerry Kluge in High Control.

It's all right. Some of it seemed hastily put together or something, but I don't think it's the worst episode (I'm saving my vote on that one for Second Chance). The Anthrax security breach issue is still around, and there were parts of the episode that were emotional or suspenseful. On the shallow side, I get to see Mac ride a dirtbike! wub.gif

I agree with you MacsChick its not the worse ep. I did enjoy the Bike ride too.
But I did think it was to easy to steal the vial. I would have thought with Phoneix Security it would have been abit harder.

Did anyone notice the guy that Mac get the dirtbike from??? That's Dan Shea - Sgt. Siler of StarGate SG-1. Check out his long hair. I think he was RDA's stand-in as well on several episodes.

In Renegade, I don't think he was listed in the credits. He did a few other small uncredited parts in several other Mac episodes. He was in "Lost Love" part 2 - season 3 - as the truck driver - where Mac and Jack sneak into the museum to steal the Ming Dragon and he was the van driver in "Deep Cover" - the 100th episode in season 5.

I don't know about were you are but here anything after 8 hours is overtime. And highly trained scientists and PHD's don't get the "nightshift", that's why they fork out all the money for college, so they can get the 9-5's biggrin.gif

laugh.gif I couldn't help wondering if it was in the script or if Rick laid that dirtbike out on purpose because it looked way cool.jpg he had dirt come out from under his sunglasses happy.gif VVVRRROOOOM

I watched this episode last night and found it quite enjoyable.

I particularly liked the b grade acting of Stephen Furst as Dr. Kozby. He gives the role a kind of mad scientist feel which is quite funny.

One thing I did notice was the way Pete and Mac greeted each other as they signed into the lab, sounded like they hadn't seen each other for a few days.

This got me thinking about how much they would really see of each other. As the audience we see them together all the time, but in "real life" (within the Mac universe) I guess it's quite conceivable that they would go for days without seeing each other, just like real friends do. Pete's at work every day, while MacGyver only turns up when he's needs to.

We do see episodes with no Pete, but generally I'd never really considered the amount of time they probably spend away from each other until I saw that scene.

I liked this episode alot! My favorite part from when Mac Disabled the Copter, until the fight scene. Great scene by the way! It's cool to see Mac smack that thug across the face with the oar! biggrin.gif

I can't believe that many people have posted in this episode discussion. I thought this was very enjoyable episode. The lab guy who was telling Pete and Mac what was going on was very funny. There were parts of this episode that were emotional and suspenseful. Lots of cool MacGyverisms. Mac hot wiring an elevator, defusing a bomb, and stopping a helicopter...again. On the other side I like seeing Mac on a dirt bike. Not my favorite episode, but a good action-packed episode.

Overall Rating: 8/10 duct.gif sak.gif macsak.gif

jeep.gif The episode was good for the action scenes, but weak technically. A trained Navy SEAL would not remove Anthrax from a controlled lab before securing it in an airtight container. The actor portraying the ex-SEAL was not very good, and a trained SEAL would not put himself in a vulnerable position to be shot. In the real world a SEAL would not have allowed Mac to live when making his escape, especially if caught you may be facing treason charges if you were going to sell it to the opposition. I nit pick the SEAL character in this episode as a Navy veteran, I knew some real ones in my Naval service and they are not guys you cross lightly. Overall it was not a bad idea for a show, this could be a problem even today with bio-terrorist on the loose.

Love this episode mainly for the dirtbike scenes. When I think of it, thats the only things that come to mind with it. Love when mac rides off road on a dirtbike

Now technically I'm driving a stolen car following a kidnapping... and I didn't even get to have my first cup of coffee. (Mac)
Your burning hot MacGyver... And so is Pete! ! (Murdoc)
Does anyone have a knife?? Yes...it has lots of different blades (Macgyver music plays while mac examines the knief) ...I know
Why are you taking your pants off?? You got a better idea? I'm still trying to figure out what yours is!!

It stuck with me as a "bad" episode for a long time, I think it was because I was too young when I saw it, but I changed my mind in hindsight. So he's not the top m, but he has a good script, good actors, Mr. Teague or Don Stroud, he is also a real military expert since he played a soldier in J Bond la same year ...

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
