LOL! I laughed at that. "Uses his his horse to get AWAY from women!" XD
Most women's lives during the early Western period were awful and many had to get jobs as prostitues (saloon girls) but I won't go into that.

I love RDA's expressions in this episode. That funny squinty thing he kept doing with his eyes was a crack up.
Overall I enjoyed this episode. I thought it was a bit more up tempo and had a better storyline than Serenity. It's a pity they couldn't get Jack Penny and Murdoc back for this one as well but even without them I like this episode. Gets a good from me

When he looks at Wilt in the beginning of the dream is hilarious indeed.

Given the number of poor reviews and votes, I did think this one was going to be dodgy. So I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was
I did feel sorry for Mac at the beginning and I completely understand why he pushed off to bed so quickly, but the part that confuses me is that he was going out with Maria at all! He was clearly horrified at the thought of spending more time with her when she got a job at Phoenix
I like a Western anyway, but I did like the story here and it's nice to see familiar faces back for another episode.

I didn't like this episode, but I still voted it as Good, 'cause I like RDA's acting here and I really like this escaping from the hanging-rope scene. It's very hilarious!!! And it was pretty ironical, that over the signpost on top of what he was standing was written "Last chance".

I don't think there are many people that do like this episode. Certain aspects of the episode are good, but not as a whole. Though, there were reasons for the men bashing, which I would assume was to make the audience feel bad for Mac.
It didn't make Maria look like a good match for Mac at all. However, after hearing about the scathing letters they got about getting rid of her, I felt bad for the actress. It wasn't her fault. I've become somewhat indifferent to Maria... neither liking or hating her, just because I don't think the actress really deserved so much hate.
Joan Rivers actually reads some of the letters in this interview below (which starts about 6 minutes in). However, my personal favorite is "Richard Dean Anderson is not the bedroom scene type". Ooouch. lol

I think I have to explain better, why I don't like this episode. First, after all those costumes and sets, there wasn't story and action enough in this episode. But, most of all, I don't like MacGyver's teased that way. I think he didn't had a wife not because of fear of commitment, but because he lived dangerous life and was rarely at home, and his enemies could use his family against him. I don't understand, why writers forgot about this. But I don't have any problem with MacGyver's shown beeing sexual in some episodes. Actually, I like those kissing scenes. I disagree with blaming "not to be the bedroom scene type" in this videointerview, but RDA's reaction was sweet. I love this moment!

All MacGyver episodes where he sees a dream and it takes the whole episode are ridiculous, I just don't like the way, that they create some "new world" for the character like also in episode Good Knight MacGyver. I mean *real* good action with "real life" feeling is usually the point with this series, not that the creators want no matter what to write some script where character jumps suddenly to some other planet.

They missed this one - MacGyver on spaceship!!!
That was good one:P
There is one MacGyver episode where he sees UFO on field, but luckily the writers didn't were too fictitious guys to be send him to space with ufo as smuggler to check where this ship is coming from. He was luckily just curious and went to field to see, whats goin on....

I think it's quite mean what those letters are concerned. Maria has such a great first episode with The Wall. I think it's one of the sixth season's best. Despite MacGyver's Women is a bad episode, I think she still tried her best for it. I really like that smile when they leave the bushes. But the biggest blame is I just think this poor excuse for a script. Other than that Brigitta Stenberg's career was a relative small one. She had done a few movies but they were never a success. She quit acting in 1999. The biggest title in her career is Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. Stallone's worst movie.
Again I think they had get rid of yet another strong character who could've become a nice recurring character like Nikki was.

Though it's a nitpick... when Milt says: 'This is another fine mess you got us into.' Wilt replies; 'What did I do, Milt?' The English subtitles are wrong as it read: 'What did I do, Wilt?' Sounds like Wilt would be asking that question to himself even though the line was correctly said.

Not the bedroom scene type? But somewhere on the internet, a loooooot of people are happily writing "Stargate" fan fiction where Jack (RDA) gets shipped with Sam (Amanda Tapping).

Them going on in endless male bashing chatter. With Mac sitting right there! AUGH. Seems to me there would have been a certain amount of inebriation to chatter on like that or expect Mac to take it. Grrr.
Lots of people in this thread insist that they were "male bashing". They joked about American men (hinting that they meant Mac) were afraid of commitment. Is that really such a terrible thing to say?
Especially when Mac, whilst not necessarily being afraid of commitment, has repeatedly not shown commitment to a particular girlfriend.
It's possible that he is actually afraid of commitment. After all, he loved his parents and his grandmother. And they died. Plus, Deborah turned out to be evil. There was also the time (alluded to in the episode "Gold Rush") where Natalie/Natalia betrayed him (albeit because she was being blackmailed). We can be pretty sure that their backstory involved some kind of sexual/romantic interaction because of her choice of words - when she denied being some kind of Mata Hari. Okay, they did end up kissing, but that doesn't mean her previous actions had no effect on him.
What we know is that, until the end of the dream (a dream of which Maria has no knowledge whatsoever), Mac did not want to "commit" to Maria. However one defines commitment. It could mean many things: a ring, the use of the words "I love you", a guarantee that he would turn down dangerous assignments if she wanted (and vice versa), her wanting him to guarantee to spend a certain amount of time with her, her wanting to move in or redecorate the houseboat or, Heaven help her, she may have wanted to improve his taste in clothing. Maybe a promise that if they were still together after x number of years, they would get married and she would be Mrs MacGyver (or MacGyver-Romburg) and they could start to plan mini-Macs.
On the other hand, besides the sex and companionship that their relationship was providing, there's the fact that it's MacGyver, who would literally risk his life to save her life. And that has to count for quite a lot, really.

Another thing. It is written somewhere here that the writers/producers decided not to give Mac a girlfriend because of angry letters from female viewers. But elsewhere we are assured that viewers were predominantly male. So, where did these female viewers come from? Was it their mission in life to ensure that single male characters on TV remained single?

MacGyver's Women is a crazy title because it's Kate the cop/his friend, Jenny the runaway/reformed now ex-hooker played by a porn star in this episode. instead of the much more believeable actress from Runners, and Maria.
The title is rather ridiculous.
And it is unfortunate that they didn't (probably couldn't) use the original actress for Jenny.
(There's another Jenny, isn't there? In the episode with the horse racing. Someone should have given the writers some other female names to use. Please. I know there are, for example, lots of Kates and Lisas in the world because Katharine and Elizabeth are well-established names with many variations. So why didn't they use some of those many variations???)
However, I thought the actress they did employ was fine in the role. The main thing she had to convey was that she didn't like the men who were eyeing her up and wanting to use her, and she conveyed that convincingly. I'm not sure why her porn past is relevant. I hope that everyone on set treated her as they would any other member of the cast.

I think the episode went wrong when they chose which actual women to be in the episode (the characters, not the actresses).
I think that a lot of people were asking why was still single. I mean, very eligible bachelor. Athletic, very, very clever, kind, nice hair, not in debt, non-smoker, not a slob (even if Pete thinks dusting should be done more than twice a year), not necessarily in that order.
In parallel, people were apparently asking RDA that in real life. Even though obviously he does not "science" the way Mac does. Someone on facebook posted a link to an interview with him (circa 1994; Jay Leno and Cybill Shepherd were in it also) where he was asked that.
In the end, I think some people just aren't very well suited for being half of a romantic couple. Simple as that. They still have commitment towards their friends, to the planet, to their child ... which one are we talking about now?
There's a nice snippet of information on RDA's website where he mentions that he and his ex and their daughter were going to Italy together. To mark said daughter's high school graduation.
I thought that sounded good. (I mean in theory. I have no idea whether they had a good trip and don't want to pry. But assuming it went well.)
I think most of us offspring of divorced parents are fairly lucky to get both parents happily attending our graduation day(s), wedding(s), etc. I mean, I'm not saying I personally would want to spend an entire holiday (by which, being British, I mean "vacation", not something like Christmas or Hannukah or Easter) with both parents.
Just that I'm starting to think that maybe society is wrong to assume that all eligible bachelors and spinsters should aspire to commitment and settling down. Perhaps there are other ways of existence which work out better than we think they do.

^ to the above comment, it is now much more normal for people to choose not to get married and not have it be a stigma than it was back in the 80s.
I don't have a problem with the "man bashing" at the beginning, because I think part of it is done to tease Mac, they are definitely ganging up on him for fun lol. That said, it's a weird trio of characters to pick, Murphy seems to be a completely different person than how she is in her other two episodes.
It's interesting that Maria says they are lovers, but then Mac has to clarify that he isn't seeing anyone else right now! Forget marriage, they weren't even specifically exclusive yet I'm not a fan of Maria, mostly because her fake accent bothers me, and they never really established what Mac sees in her besides her looks.
I liked all the kissing at the end - I can't believe the letters against Mac having a relationship, so bizarre. RDA could definitely pull off a bedroom scene type lol - that interview was pretty funny
I'm not sure I can think of another show where the parallels between the lead actor and character are so strongly aligned.

Other than being her only claim to fame, the porn stuff isn't relevant. But it is a very interesting story she has.
She was under age in all but one of her films. Once that was found out they all became illegal movies and weer immediately pulled from sale and rent. The last one she made was when she was 18 and she owns all rights to it so she got (and gets) all profits from it.
Many in the industry believe she planned the whole thing to ensure she was the only one to profit from her movies, effectively duping the whole industry to her advantage.

When it comes to Mac, I'd say so. Sometimes I see these reactions on the Facebook pages on how handsome he is that makes me think: "please, from as soon we say how pretty or how hot a certain actress is, we're pigs."

If there is one cringe-worthy scene in the show, it's that one. For starters they're twisting things around and they get away with it. I'll quote myself from five years ago below.
QUOTE
Men hate it when women use dirty words like love? Is love considered a dirty word? As I recall if men use and I do mean dirty words women are usually the ones who are disgusted.
If this was like Mac, Jack and Pete talking to Maria like that or Kate or Jenny or anyone else the show would've been accused of chauvinism.
Sometimes I really wonder what Mac had to say about all it because the scene is just terrible. Maybe he figured it was better not to say anything or it would've been an endless discussion that he couldn't win but that doesn't mean they were right.

Yep. Well, I think so too but I also read government prosecutors claims she had been manipulated and drugged to act in those films. That I doubt, she used a fake ID to get in, lied about her age and commited identity theft. What she did was wrong but she seems to have redeemed herself in some way and most of it was behind her by the time she dated RDA. Yet she did damage the industry and I can understand a lot of people are hurt of what she did.

I have to agree it's a pretty painful scene to watch. Especially considering that it's poor etiquette to gang up on your host in his own home, especially since he probably paid for the food too. lol
Personally, I'd be counting my lucky stars just to get an invite. lol
I've been in Mac's shoes though, but gender flipped. lol My guy friends sometimes forget I'm a girl. They'll starting whining about women and I have to remind them that A: I'm right there and B: Not all women are like that.
And they've upset me a few times, but mostly because they lumped all women together. It's like... I'm not like that, so please don't lump me in with the ones that treated you like dirt. Thank you very much....
So, I can kinda feel Mac's pain on that one. XD

To me it's all the more reason of nothing getting involved in commitment. So can you blame him?
On the other hand I'm thinking: you see what you get. Not good enough find someone else. I don't intend on changing you, so you don't change me.
Society's idea of commitment or relationships are way outdated: you have to be to be that man and woman with kids, a house and a car or else you don't belong. I pass for that idea, thank you very much. I don't want disregard it completely but not the way society thinks it should, then I'd rather be alone like Mac. Lonely? Maybe but free for sure.

Sure the conversation in that scene is annoying - but it doesn't ring untrue as a conversation that might have happened, especially of the time period. It's a long running joke that men are allergic to or view 'love' as a dirty word - however stupid that stereotype is.
I think it's funny to have Mac have to react to a totally vapid normal conversation, so it doesn't bother me too much, even though those women are annoying there are plenty like them.
Society, at least secular society, has come a long way since then - and people aren't feeling the same pressure to get married if they don't want to - thankfully! So I guess while I don't love the episode, I enjoy Mac in it

Maybe it the company we keep... that sort of conversation was not considered proper or respectful in my upbringing. If I acted like that in a guests home, my mother would have tanned my hide.
Also, it depends where you live. I live in Kentucky where if you're not married with a kid, there is something wrong with you. Of course, I saw that when I lived in Upstate NY. I was the office loser because I didn't have a boyfriend.
So... not much has really changed, at least... not in my experience. But, I guess I just live under a rock. XD
Probably the best part of the entire episode is MacGyver bedhead. Seriously... how long was that man asleep that it got like that? O_o

It's not company I keep (thank you very much), but I have certainly heard conversations in real life and on tv/movies just like that many times. I can assure you there are Southern women who gossip about men that way - doing it at/in front of Mac was a bit annoying/rude, but they were teasing him on purpose.
Like I said, more secular parts of the country have progressed a lot with these expectations, but I'm sure the Bible Belt still wants everyone married off.

Then it's just outdated. I never heard of the joke that men think love is a dirty word.
I didn't mind a normal conversation either but the way they were talking to him about it was wrong. As if they tried to make him admit they were right and when he didn't and walked away they think they were right. Maybe he did the smart thing but it was just very poorly written.

It's alright where I live. Most of my friends are married, got kids and have a place of their own. I suffered a major setback a couple of years ago due to various reasons. But now I truly wonder: are those people really as happy as they say or are they just keeping up appearances? I think it's the last. Too many times I've heard of people who stay together because they don't want to be alone or that they got kids because they think they'll be happier then. And I think that is one of the reasons why so many people suffer from burn-out. It's not only job-related but also family-related.
Seriously, you want to be chained down in an unhappy marriage or rather be alone and free as a bird?

I don't think you can prevent that. People talk but people also think everything is permitted when you talk about someone and that's when talking turns into gossiping.

If the first episode benefits from a good cast and a sophisticated city, this second opus is not left out, already by the fact that at the beginning of the episode Mac managed to manufacture something, a bit like Doc in "back to the future".
If the supporting roles are “weaker” here, they have the advantage of giving us their news, like Kate, or even Maria, and the roles of Wilt and Milt better have people finally adapted to their characters. to say comedy.
Plus Mac, here is completely fit on the "MacGyverism" side between the blowpipe, the stone on the glass, or the belt to cut your ties, I count 6 or 7, so we have a choice.
It's an episode, unfortunately underestimated by fans, (because there's no Murdoc?) And yet it deserves to be known. Even though this is not an episode that I revere, it does hands down and it's better than Serenity on top of that.
