Ok...with information I've gleaned from our wonderful site (including my goofy questions thread) and general imagination, I've put something together that should give you a good laugh. I hope. biggrin.gif

Some background:
Believe it or not, MacGyver isn't my only obsession. I have several, but the other one I'll mention here is GI Joe. Same deal as with Mac...grew up with the original cartoons in the early and mid 80s...got away from it...and now Isaiah's huge into GI Joe (of course it's the more new-fangled version dry.gif ) and I'm now introducing him to the original "Real American Hero". biggrin.gif If you're not familiar with Joe, just do a search and you'll find out more than you probably care to know, but I do belong to a couple of great forums you can ask me about if you want. A little summary: GI Joe is the codename for America's highly trained special mission force who's purpose is defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world. OK..that's maybe almost verbatim from the original cartoon's intro...from memory (sad). The action figures came with cool file cards that gave information like name, specialties and background.

So I got to thinking...what if MacGyver had joined up with GI Joe instead of the DXS or PF? Sounds funny, but it doesn't seem too out there with having a military background (vague tho it is) and working for the DXS. Now keep in mind this is mostly tongue in cheek speculation, but I might eventually turn it into a fic. This is based loosely on those early/mid 80s action figure file cards, which fit almost perfectly into the Mac'verse timeline. Obviously a LOT of speculation went into this, so humor me... laugh.gif

And of course no infringement on any trademarks or copyrights is intended. It's all for fun and (so far) general silliness...)

Amy!! GI Joe is cool! cool.jpg clapup.gif I used to play with all the action figures when I was smaller, with my brother. (We were Really into Legos too.) So much cooler than Barbie. And no, I didn't play with the Barbie-sized ones, it was the smaller ones. And of course all the vehicles and weapons, etc. etc.! I collected all those cards too. *Sigh* Cobra...Destro...Duke...Baroness...Snake Eyes (He's awesome)...Scarlett... Brings back memories. Unfortunately I never saw either TV series, but we did have the GI Joe game for Commodore 64--we had so much fun with that. rolleyes.gif

This is a really neat idea for a fic....or two...or three... *jab jab* A sort of Alternate Reality thing. Me like... happy.gif

You definitely missed out with the original Sunbow TV series! Good stuff! I don't actually remember if I saw any of the DIC series that picked up after that, which many Joefans almost write out of the Joe mythos. I played with the figs all the time with my brother (they were his... smile.gif ) but we had great adventures! And we always had lego and lincoln log forts and such! wink.gif Shipwreck was always my favorite Joe...hehe still is. We never had the Commadore game, but just a couple of years ago I found the GI Joe board game and got it for my brother for Christmas. His wife never forgets to tell me that he makes her play it all the time. laugh.gif

I'm having such fun playing Joe again now with Isaiah! He collects the newer 8 inch figures, but we're watching the original cartoons and he loves it. It's so cool that I can share my two favorite things from the 80s with him! biggrin.gif

LOL...and speaking of legos...they never made anything officially GI Joe...but Isaiah and I are slowly finding parts online to make our own lego Joe characters...he's all excited about it. Right now we've got MacGyvered versions of Shipwreck (of course), Roadblock, Storm Shadow, Destro, Wild Bill, some others. laugh.gif

I never watched GI Joe as a kid, especially not the 80's version (I'm a kid of the 90's...I don't even think it was on when I would have been watching it), but it does sound like an interesting show smile.gif

hehe...working on those...snakeeyes at least. biggrin.gif I'll have to post a pic once we get some of the parts we found. laugh.gif The MacGyvered version from what we had on hand aren't all that impressive...

Psuedo...you can watch some of those old eps at www.hasbro.com/gijoe. I think that's the right addy. There are also some Sigma 6 eps, which are the current new cartoons. I don't like them all that much...weird anime stuff (even tho that's what the figs Isaiah's collecting are based on). I don't really know a whole lot of 90s Joe-toons. I think for the most part there were a couple of "movie" type things, but no series. Joe had many incarnations in the late 80s and 90s. There were/are also comics (which I never even knew existed).

YO JOE!!!!!!!! biggrin.gif smile.gif
cool.jpg

Awesome! I love the MacGyver file card! I grew up in the 1980s and as most any boy of the 80s will tell you, G.I. Joe ROCKS!!!
I used to watch the cartoon every Saturday morning and play with the action figures all the time! I still have some figures at home. I wish I still had Sgt. Slaughter and the Triple-T tank!!!
I remember both the Sunbow and the DIC cartoons- and I enjoyed both. I remember watching some of G.I. Joe Extreme- but it just wasn't the same. The newer movies like "Spy Troops" and "Valor Vs. Venom" aren't bad- but I still prefer actual animation over CGI. For those reasons (amongst others), I don't care for the Sigma Six cartoon as much- but it's not too bad.

I've also got a number of the G.I. Joe comics at home- Marvel did a great run on them from 1982-1994! In fact, the comic is what inspired the cartoon series (though the comics were based on the figures which have been around since the 1960s.) And I've got the 1987 classic- "G.I. Joe: The Movie" and I still love that.
And there's a newer comic book run currently going on from Devil's Due. And it's pretty good. Especially since they got Larry Hama to come back and write issues!

MacGyver would be an excellent member of G.I. Joe- of course, he'd basically BE the G.I. Joe team! biggrin.gif

Oh, and I wouldn't mind seeing some of these Lego pictures either. (I also grew up with and love Legos). I'm pretty sure there are some official Lego/G.I. Joe products out there too though. You gotta have a Duke figure!

Oh yeah- this should definitely be a fanfic....

Oh and check out www.yojoe.com for all your G.I. Joe needs!

Cool- I've never really used the forums there- but I have visited around yojoe.com quite a bit- it's great! Well, apparently Duke is taken (go figure!) and someone's on there calling themselves MacGyver... biggrin.gif
so if I used it I'd have to get something like Scarlettissohot558 or something... tongue.gif

Anyway- I think probably MacGyver and Mainframe would get along pretty well... smile.gif

Thanks Amy! I'll have to do that sometimes soon. Yeah when I was younger I never even knew there was a GI Joe cartoon. Although I did own a giant GI Joe, it was the size of my Barbies and I used it for a while. I think I got it at a garage sale or something because I had something around 20 or more hand-me-down Barbies and only 4 Kens, and that just wasn't working out (You just can't play Lord of the Rings with only 4 guys...Boromir normally turned into Boromira...and Merry and Pippin were one person, and I think Gandolf was a woman two just dressed up as a man...lol I deffinate had some creative solutions to my lack of Ken dolls)

LOL...VERY creative! That Joe was one of the 12 inch line--they had a kind of revival in the 90s. I had a couple from when my uncle was a kid (the originals from the 60s!). I think one was missing a foot and the other a hand or something. laugh.gif I haven't taken the time to figure out if the toons at that link are complete or cut, but I'm guessing they're cut. They'll still give you a good idea of it, tho!

Yeah it had red hair and it was really REALLY flexible especially compared to Barbies and Ken's. It didn't quite fit in with the other ones but considering none of them looked like Lord of the Rings characters anyways it didn't really matter. I think I was an odd kid...how many other little girls played Lord of the Rings with there Barbie dolls?

Cool!  Where can I get my GI JOE: Code name Mac action figure??   biggrin.gif

He should come complete with a tiny flattened roll of duct tape and a SAK in his pockets!

biggrin.gif Ask and ye shall receive!

I've been around, really...But you're about to get a peek at what I've been up to...

Let me explain first. Hasbro has this new line of GI Joe figures out called Sigma 6, and it's kind of a new reality in the Joe world. Anyway it's largely anime-based (not really my cuppa, but whatever) and the figures are hugely cool. They're 8 inches tall and are trademarked by exaggerated features (like oversized shoulders, cartoony kind of eyes, etc.), so they're not overly real looking, but they have spectacular articulation. Anyway, Isaiah collects these and I've recently gotten sucked into the world of customizing them...lol...I actually have someone who's interesting in hiring me to paint his customs!

Anyway...back to GI Joe Codename: Mac! smile.gif This is my second custom and it's not quite complete yet, but I couldn't keep it from you guys any longer! biggrin.gif I'm just posting a link to the album cuz it's a lot of pics!

The pic spreads aren't in order...so MacPutty is first (lol), then MacPainted, then MacMakeover.

MacPutty shows what I started with and you can get an idea of what the figures look like. MacPainted turned out to be a transition instead of the final thing because the hair was bleh and the skin was too light. The last one is "final." Now I'm working on his gear. cool.jpg Think duct tape, matches, and SAK! I hope.

No there's no fanfic yet...but you never know... wink.gif

Lemme know what you think!

Wow, Amy- that's really cool! A great custom MacGyver figure! If you don't mind, I'd like to link to that on my Web site when I get a chance.
You should mention it on the G.I. Joe forum- they'd be impressed, I think.

By the way, speaking of G.I. Joe again- have you seen this?
http://www.hasbro.com/gijoe/rah/default.cfm?page=25th

That's pretty cool- 25th. anniversary of the orginial 1982 figures!!! (I know they were 12" ones in the 60s- but these are the ones and the cartoon I grew up with!)

Thanks MacGyver! Sure link away...you can use what's there, but I might have the final pic with gear on posted in a day or so! smile.gif

Oh believe me...those Joe forums love it! I can't believe how many Mac fans are popping up since I posted it. biggrin.gif Of course i keep referring them to this place... lol.

I can't wait to show you guys the SAK I've got in the works! Of course it's going to be big and exaggerated like the rest of the line's gear, but that's ok. There's actually a figure coming out this year that has a multipurpose "pocketknife," but if you look at it along with the figure...it's like as long as his leg... lol. Still very cool...and someone's promised to pass one along to me when they get it.

Those 25 Anniversary figures...aren't they so great?? For the most part they follow the early figures really closely! They are more detailed and articulated..and very cool. I doubt I'll end up collecting them, since we have the Sigma 6 line...hard to justify yet ANOTHER set of Joes... wink.gif

Yeah, I've seen a bit of the G.I. Joe Sigma Six line- and some of the action figures. I don't care for them much really...but it is cool to see G.I. Joe return to TV in some form!

I have some of the figures from the last few years- 2000, 01, 02 and so...some of the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra line...and of course, a few of the original figures from the 1980s!

Ok guys!!! Mac's done!

I can't resist posting this one pic...but you can see more at the link!

Codename Mac Album

The rope is just a piece of tan yarn that happened to be in the kitchen when I took the pictures.

The SAK is modified from a GI Joe Sigma 6 butterfly knife. I cut off the second handle and did some fill work to get it to look like a SAK and then painted it. sak.gif Obviously you can see what I mean about the gear being exaggerated.

The matches are made from toothpicks.

Yes, that is a real miniature roll of duct tape. Made it myself. duct.gif laugh.gif

I'm not happy with the finish on his head because it was supposed to be matte. So much for can labels...

So seriously, let me know what you guys think!

Yeah, really awesome! But I have to say, when Mac was kneeling usually he only had one knee down and the other one up. Is that possible to do also?

Oh, I just was at the side and looked at the other pics. You even can fold in the blade of the knife? You did a really good job on this!

Yeah I tried posing him the way you describe, but it looked awkward. These figs are super articulated, but the proportions are off just enough for that particular pose to not work. Yeah, the SAK blade folds in! smile.gif About the only thing that doesn't do what it should is the matches don't strike...and the knife isn't sharp...LOL. I can see Isaiah and I playing now...all the other Joes' equipment's going to be duct taped together in the field...with real duct tape! laugh.gif

Again, thanks!

That which has been established will endure even with time and at a distance.

I can't tell you anything about what happens after the cameras go off, mostly because I'm usually unconscious by then.

Awesome, Amy! Great job on the MacGyver figure!!! biggrin.gif

That pose is just great- and the bangs on his mullet give Mac a very modern kind of look, I think. Kinda like you expect him to be into skateboarding and punk rock or something wink.gif

Amy, I'm not sure if I should be afraid or not?

MMM Well it is Mac and not Jack O'Neill so NOT. It's great really, it was the roll of duct tape that was scaring me. tongue.gif duct.gif
