Rockatteer QUOTE (MacGyver) and the bangs on his mullet give Mac a very modern kind of look, I think. Kinda like you expect him to be into skateboarding and punk rock or something
Or maybe Roller blading (or even roller hockey)!
He does kinda have that look, doesn't he? LOL. Guess that's the anime figure style for ya. And all that hair was there already...except the little I added to the back. It was almost perfect as is!

MEP Amy, I'm not sure if I should be afraid or not?
MMM Well it is Mac and not Jack O'Neill so NOT. It's great really, it was the roll of duct tape that was scaring me.
How about now that I updated the gear picture in my album because I realized after watching the Pilot tonight that I forgot a very essential part of Mac's gear? Fear the paperclips... Hubby now thinks I've completely lost all touch with reality...

Amy this is so cool!!! Love it love it!
Did you use two different shades of paint on his hair to make highlights in front, or is that just the way the light is hitting it? It's so perfect because he does have highlights in a lot of shows.

Devon...There are 3 different colors, but the pic in the post doesn't show it well. You might be able to tell if you follow the link to the other pics, especially one from before he wa sealed.

Hope the title change helps everyone realize this thread isn't all GI Joe posts! Just realized most of you probably get that far, could care less...and miss the action figure!
Anyway...I don't think I mentioned this...but I've got my pics posted on a couple GI Joe forums...
...and someone suggested where there's MacGyver, there's got to be Murdoc! I'm taking that as a challenge...so expect more... I already have the perfect figure to start from in mind.

That’s pretty cool but the oversized joints/muscles are throwing me off. If you were to put a little tiny jean shirt or flannel shirt on him to hide that stuff, you could put them on Ebay and make a fortune.

Yeah that's a good question! Hubby already asked me that, and I'm not sure. I'll have to have a Murdoc marathon now to see which "era of Murdoc" the figure I want to use fits into... LOL...

Yeah, the exaggerated joints and muscles are a trademark of the figures I'm using as the base. I probably will add a flannel shirt to him at some point...just have to find the right size...lol...that Mac is so hard to shop for... BTW, he got a knapsack today. I think I'm crossing the line between geekdom and dweebdom.

Hey guys! I haven't been around much because life is insane. Not me. Life. LOL. Anyway, I got something a couple of weeks ago that I'm really jazzed about and so I wanted to update this dinosaur thread for you all!
First...this is kinda cool...I belong to a forum called JoeCustoms.com and they do a once a year awards where the members nominate and vote for the best customs in many different categories. I didn't even know they did this because I've only been there less than a year... Anyway, my MacGyver custom (from this thread) was voted best custom in the humor category! lol...Not that it's funny, but the concept of Mac being a GI Joe is pretty tongue in cheek. Cool.
Also...Mac's getting remodeled! I haven't started yet, but I have a very important addition to him that's inspired me to rework him some. He'll be even more MacGyver than ever when I'm done. So what's the important addition, you ask?
Last year I connected up with a guy who makes clothing for action figures (believe it or not). He runs a site called UrbanRevToys.com if you wanna check it out. He does amazing work, even making coats for 3.75 inch Joes. He recently added a line for 8 inch Joes. So, thanks to MOL's store, I found a great picture of MacGyver's black jacket and sent it to him to see if he could make one. And that is what you see. Working entirely from a picture he reproduced the coat in something smaller than 1/6 scale (think a little smaller than a Ken doll's clothes). It's so cool, with details down to the zippered front, knit cuffs and collar, functional front pockets, a pocket in the sleeve, and even the orange lining! I'm so stoked about it! All I need to find is a little American flag patch!
So once I get Mac reworked, you'll see him as he was really meant to be.
I also got a new coat for Murdoc, ala the beginning of Strictly Business...muahahaha...
And just to further tease you...
I hope to soon be starting on my 3.75 inch MacGyver. (Did I mention how much I love customizing? lol) I hadn't planned to, but on a recent trip I found the perfect 25th Anniversary GI Joe figure as a base. As soon as I saw it, I was like...OH MY GOSH THAT'S MACGYVER!
Remove the beard and tell me that's not a dead ringer!

WOW! That jacket is way cool! I'll definitely be interested in seeing a new variation on the MacGyver figure. By the way, which Joe is that? I'm wanting to say maybe Rock and Roll or something, but I'm not sure- that may be totally off. Anyway, it all looks cool as usual.
(So, when are you gonna get the Bazooka figure (the later years, as per the new comic book cameo in the first issue) and make a Pete figure? )

"Project:MacGyver" I like that! LOL!
And you should feel part of the Crazy Team...you are, after all, largely to blame! (((Lothi)))
MacGyver...that is indeed Rock n Roll. A pretty sweet figure, I might add, too, if you like the character. I was really torn about whether to tear him up or not since kiddo doesn't have that one yet, and I've only seen one of him so far...but I caved, and started shaving his beard the other day.

Please don't cannibalize Rock-n-Roll! I loved that guy! But, of course, you know he'd volunteer if it was for the greater good. I so don't have time to talk JOE right now, as I have to get back to work, but suffice to say that I've coveted my share of No-Prizes, and my favorite sign off line (still) is that 'until Roadblock starts spit-shing his head, MAKE MINE MARVEL!!!'
Serious fan of the comic here, and I have the entire set, minus two issues. (And yes, I know I could buy them from Mile High, but it's more fun to look for them at trade shows, etc...I picked up one about two years ago...for a dollar!!! SCORE!)
Love the figures, as you know, Amy...have to jet...talk more later!

LOL! Too late. He's seen reason and was very submissive, with minimal disgruntledness. Awesome to find another Joe fan, tho the comics aren't my forte. I hear you...the hunt for what you need is half the fun. Unfortunately I don't get to many shows, so I find most of my stuff through trades on fan boards. Anytime you wanna talk "Joe" just let me know! lol...now I sound like Roadblock.
Astra! Got your email and will respond shortly. Killuminati (the guy from UrbanRev) did 2 coats for me to my specs (the other was the Murdoc coat I mentioned), and I've seen him do other custom clothing not listed on his site, so I'm sure he could tackle your idea. It wouldn't hurt to ask and send a picture...Tell him Mac from the Joe forums sent you. It does take a while, tho, so I hope patience is a virtue for you. The only problem I can think of is if the SG1 scale is off from what he has because he likes to custom fit them to specific figures. I'm sure you guys could figure it out.

Oh, and he had a really cool gun, too...the only one that beat it, for me, was Hit-n-Run's. Guess I like the combination word named guys, huh?
Oh, wait! I take it back...Low Light. Now, there was a gun.
Low Light has the distinction of being the only figure (except maybe Flint? But how many of those are there, anyway?) that I have in multiple versions, as I've let my collecting gene lay dormant for a while...at least where action figures are concerned. I do have a fondness for the snipers, I must say...

Heh- The Bazooka comment was kind of an inside joke- in the first issue of the new G.I. Joe comic from Devil's Due, he makes a cameo and we find out he won't be joining up with the Joes again because he's gotten a bit overweight and couldn't quite pass the physical. (Or at least that's implied.) Maybe later on he gets back into shape and joins up- I don't know. I was faithfully reading the new series for a while and then realized I just didn't have the money for it all the time. Anyway, that image reminded me of Pete and seemed like he might almost be a decent choice for a Pete figure. Just thought that it'd be fun to see a Pete figure- but a Jack Dalton figure would be great too.
And by the way, I have some of the Marvel 155 issue run of G.I. Joe (I've actually got the first and last issue and some in between.) That's one that I don't know I'd bother to order off of MileHighcomics.com for- my ALF comics though, I might finish off that set one day. )
Marvel and DC- they're both good. I like all their superheroes pretty much. I've got a couple of comics based on other '80s shows I like- for instance, the entire 3 issue run of The A-Team, and the entire 7 issue run of SilverHawks. I've sometimes wondered what a MacGyver comic book might have been like- that would have been pretty cool.

Oh yeah- and I'm kinda proud of myself (in a geeky sort of way ) for actually recognizing that the G.I. Joe was Rock and Roll- ha, he's cool. I've always liked Roadblock too- and Shipwreck's cool too. I think my other main favorites were Duke, Snake Eyes, Beachhead, Gung-Ho, Leatherneck and Crazy Legs. I remember those days of getting G.I. Joes for birthdays and Christmas and such- and having play battles with our figures with my brothers and friends... good times.

As for comics, I have all but 2 of the Marvel GI Joe, some Order of Battles, some Special Missions, but none of the other titles.
I have all but 3 of the X-Files run.
I have the usual smattering of Superman, Batman, and Justice League from DC.
I have the other usual smattering of Spidey, Captain America, X-Men, Wolverine, Daredevil and Punisher from Marvel.
I have a small, selected assortment of very old comics gleaned from a huge box of oldies given to me in junior high-they were mostly old Archie books, etc, but interspersed in all that battered Betty and Veronica were some gems.
I seriously read Superman for a while, but he has so many books that I couldn't keep up (Action Comics, Superman, Superman: Man of Steel, and at least two others that escape me at the moment-I know he had five books when I stopped reading him years ago). The same applies for Batman and his many books.
I did read the Thanos arc pretty hard and have several graphic novels from DC, Marvel, and other labels. And of course, I can still see Robin's 'death' clearly.
But I digress.
My one true mag is JOE, with TXF as a runner up.

Heh- Thanks.
Oh yeah- I forgot about the Order of Battle and Special Missions- I did have some of those- but after moving a couple of times and living in apartments, I kinda came to the point where I had to clear out some stuff just to have less things to carry around- and to clear some space and such. So I have held on to a few select issues of the Marvel G.I. Joe run- and I think I may have kept the first issue of Special Missions.
And of course, I do have a variety of DC and Marvel superheroes- my main favorites being Superman and Captain America- but I like most all the others too. (But you're right- there's way too many series and just too many issues to really keep up with everything- some of the bigger storylines I might read when the graphic novel comes out- and those I can usually get for free at the library. That's pretty much the best way to do it for me. )

Hi guys! Hehe...MacGyver and wabbit...you guys are such geeks...I love it! LOL
I think I'm slowly accepting that my life isn't going to be any less busy. Ever. But I finally found time to work on my 3.75 inch MacGyver figure! Still very much a work in progress. What you're looking at is the sculpting I've done to get the look I want (all the grayish stuff). I did some additional smoothing last night, but these pictures are before that. Gave hm a watch, too.
His shirt doesn't have it's collar yet. The mess on his right leg is where I had to removed and fill in from a holster. The green stuff all over his face is the plastic showing where I got rid of the beard. I had to give him new lips (lol) but this is before I got them right.
I finished the shirt collar, and also lengthened his hair. I thought about longer, but then it restricts his head movement. I'm kinda going for a season 2 or 3 feel anyway.
Whattaya think? I have to paint, but I need your help! I have no idea what color I want his button-down shirt to be. I'm thinking black or white for the T-shirt. The pants will most likely be a khaki of some sort. Gimme some ideas guys!!

If I were painting this exquisite figure that you've molded and modified, I'd probably go with the outfit he was wearing in 'The Gauntlet', khaki trous, lighter colored khaki button-down, with olive green undershirt. Brown footwear.
I would try to brown-down his hair, too, but that's just me... I love my Mac with that darker, natural looking hair from the first few seasons
This is looking Awesome!! I can't wait to see the finished product!
Everyone, sometimes, needs a camel.
Old troubleshooters never die... They just wait til the last moment and then rescue themselves!
Cos in season 3 he wore jeans and those shirts with the half collars a lot. So you could do black or blue jeans with red or blue polka-dot shirt, but you would have to redo the collar.
But the khaki outfit Loth suggested would work also.
I guess the thing to do would be to skim through some season 2-3 DVDs and see which combo hits you.

Well, I don't care that much about clothes so I'm probably not much help- but for what it's worth, I like MacGyver's look in "Partners" in the present day times. Like in this scene here- Or the green shirt and pants combo in "Kill Zone" But of course, I don't guess it would really matter what shirt he has on- since I'd want to see MacGyver with his classic bomber jacket on top of it. I'm sure it'll be good whatever you choose though- it's looking fine so far.

Loth...funny...that's pretty much exactly the combo I was thinking! Only I was afraid it wouldn't be very visually interesting.
And Rock...yeah, I'm not totally settled on the pants. I skimmed 3 season 3 eps yesterday and in one he had on khakis, one he had blue jeans, and another black jeans.
Funny, MacGyver...one of the eps I skimmed was Kill Zone.
I'm most likely gonna have the UrbanRev guy do Mac's brown bomber for this one, but it might be a while coming cuz I'll have to save up my pennies! If I'm right, even at this smaller scale, it'll have funcional pockets where I can stuff Mac's SAK (when I figure out how to make one) and anything else that tickles me.
