I wonder if the writers gave him the name Eddie Murdoc, just so it would feel more like a person to Michael Des Barres? I think they sometimes do that so that the actor portraying the character gets a since of humanity instead of just being a roll.
Eddie just sounds strange to me as a first name for Murdoc.

I quite like that Murdoc doesn't have a first name, keeps his mystery going better. Finding out what Zito's first name was, was a bit of a let-down too - makes him more human somehow, that he has an ordinary name... I might have picked something a bit more sinister!

I don't recall ever wondering about Murdoc's first name when the show was on. But thanks to last year's elections - specifically the Indiana senate race - his first name will always be Richard to me from now on.

I don't really like the idea of Murdoc having a first name. It draws away from the dark, mysterious feel of the character. And if he had a first name It would make him more human somehow, that he has an ordinary name. And that mysteriousness of the character would be gone.

I agree. When one is left wondering and imagining, it adds much more intrigue to Murdoc and his character. The, for lack of better wording, "magic" would leave the mystery of the characterand he would seem a bit less interesting - in my opinion.

Yeah, I like that we don't get to know a lot about him, like how he survived falling off the Widowmaker.
Oh my geese! What if he's a cyborg?! Or maybe he's a rebuild-able humpty dumpty.

You wouldn't happen to be an Indiana resident? If so, there are at least 3 of you here!

I'm from New Hampshire and I now live in Singapore. But I'm also a political junkie, and I follow elections in all 50 states. Last fall, the Indiana candidate I was referring to (he spells it Mourdock: Richard Mourdock) made a really stupid comment in a debate, concerning rape and pregnancy. When his flub made the news, I joked on Facebook that although the election was a few weeks away, I had just taken it upon myself to write Mourdock's concession speech, and it only had one word: "MACGYYYYVVVVEEEERRRRRRRR!"

What? When did we find that out?
I'm pretty sure it was Raymond, though I forget the episode. Might have been 'Lessons in Evil'
And how is the name presented? Do they say it, show it?.. what?
I'm amazed that no-one else has ever noticed this is it's correct - including myself.
Um... Written on his Psycho-notes before he escapes, if memory serves. Either that or it's mentioned in the courtroom when he's trying to get declared sane (though that might be a different episode!) I'll have to watch the episode again and let you know

I just watched both episodes and saw or heard no mention of his name so I'm interested to know where you saw it.
