Ok...in my MacGyver action figure posts I mentioned someone wants me to make Murdoc now, and I'm taking him up on the challenge.
So, background...obviously if (in my messed up crazy MacGyver meets GI Joe universe...) Mac joins up with Joe, then Murdoc becomes COBRA's world class assasin. Cobra is GI Joe's arch enemy, a "ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world." I figure, sure, why not? In the end he left HIT behind in favor of tyranny, so why not world domination, right? lol. And since we know Murdoc never dies...
So, I've got 2 different action figures in mind to start with...but I can't decide which.
I've posted polls on the GI Joe forums to help me out, and since you guys are the experts I wanted your thoughts on which figure will make a better Murdoc.
Here's are some pics of Murdoc (well Michael Des Barres, at least) and also of the faces of the two figures. The one with the eye patch is Lt. Stone and the one below with the funky hair is Firefly.
I think Stone looks more the part. Firefly looks more "young punk" than "international assasin" to me. But Firefly's easier to find. Firefly also does not have an eyepatch...which neither does Murdoc. Stone has the eye patch AND a cybernetic arm. The arm can be disguised but the patch would be almost impossible to get rid of, BUT given Murdoc's history of being blown up, plunging off of cliffs, etc. I think I can come up with a reasonable backstory to explain the patch and arm. And it's my weird universe...so it could work.
So given all that and the fact that you are the (in my humble opinion) quintessential gathering of MacGyver fans... lol...what's your vote and why?

Well, I was kinda leaning toward Stone myself...but I kinda see some of Murdoc in Firefly, so..... if you have the time, you can always make two different versions of Murdoc! Perhaps a younger one before his face got all scarred up and an older more beat up, plastic surgerized one!

Wow! This is some great input guys! Keep it coming!
Just to answer some of what you said:
Stone: Yeah, I agree about the jaw being too boxy...but I can easily fix that. That's what a Dremel tool and an Xacto knife are for! The figure I used for Mac had a huge hawk nose and this really protruding chin...that took some work! lol.
Firefly: The goatee would definitely go. I can probably slick back Firefly's hair some, but it would take some creative tooling.
Nymphy...yeah, these are the closest figs there are. None of the rest come close.

I'm liking Firefly for this. He's got that whole 'diabolic eyebrow' going for him.
On the waffle... you could do over both figures... since Murdoc is a master of disguise, it only makes sense that he'd need two faces.
Can you find a dress and pantyhose in Firefly's size?
LOL...Well, let's see...Bratz dolls are about that size... lol.
I can actually do the eyebrows just right on either figure. As they are on both, they're just all wrong because they're too skinny and too arched. So no matter what, the guy would get a brow job, just like Mac did...lol.
OK...here's another thing to throw into the mix...obviously you can't tell from just a head shot, but Stone also comes already equipped with "hideaway" weapons, like a knife in his boot and guns with chest holsters that can be easily hidden with a coat. Of course, if I can find the right stuff, I can do similar things possibly with Firefly.

But what I'm wondering is, why would Murdoc join Cobra? I didn't think Murdoc was in to world domination, just wanting Mac DEAD. But hey, what do I know?

And here was I thinking buying all these wonderful Stargate-actionfigures was cool but making some for yourself is so much cooler! I love especially all the equipment you made for Mac.
I also once mad figures myself, it was a long time ago - I wanted to have some people of my favourite books and I did these with Plasticine/playdough (that's at least what my dictionary says, hope that's right). You could burn it so that they got hard, and then I painted them.
I even made a little Michael for my K.I.T.T. and he was articulated everywhere. Never got around to making him clothes, though, so the poor guy is naked for 15 years now

Oh yeah! I love Knight Rider! I used to have the talking KITT toy car that came with a great Michael Knight action figure! I still remember getting that for Christmas in the late 1980s! I wish I still had it!
Theres also a whole industry built around people making their own replicas.. you can buy the dash-boards, red scanner lights and turn your trans-am into a Kitt.
If anyones interested heres some pictures from the national Knight Rider replica builders convention "The Knight Nationals"

Kewl... Which KITT though?
They used about 20 of them to make the show.

Man, I can't find the paper that had it in now...I assumed it might have been the original (or one of) because the article said something about it being restored to it's original condition from the show's debut and it had a publicity shot of the car with David Hasselhoff from early 80s...forget the year. Should be able to find something about it on web somewhere.

Hehe...haven't forgotten about this...but I've been crazy busy! Not only with life, but with action figures...
I've made 4 customs now, finished one commission, and now have 3 more proposed commissions... Who'da thunk it? lol.
Anyway, in my random playing with GI Joe's I might have found another figure I could use for Murdoc. I updated the picture in this post so you can see all 3 choices and Murdoc and help me out some more. This new choice is HiTech, and he's not one of my favorite molds, but I was lookin at his face this morning and then I put another figure's trenchcoat on him, and it just kind of clicked. It's hard to tell in the pic, but he's got that half pleasant/half evil smile on his face too. Face is a little thin, but I can fill it out if needed. Whaddaya think?

Pls show us some pics Amy of what you've got already!! I am sooo curious!
Talking about KITT... A friend of mine was watching MTV Cribs the other day when I dropped in. There was this dude from 'N*Sync. he -apparantly- has one of the 6 (?) original KITT's used for the Knight Rider.

OK guys! I made my decision! Finally. I was really surprised that the majority in 2 of the places I posted this was for Firefly. Another place it was for Stone. Hitech didn't get much time, but I picked anyway.
I finally actually got ahold of a Stone figure...and I just couldn't pass that up. It is sooooooo close. I got the eyepatch off and an eye sculpted and when the sanding dust settles and the putty fumes go away, I'll post a pic or two.
Thanks so much for your input...even if I didn't go with the majority! lol...I'd probably still be in limbo if I hadn't asked for help!

OK...you can ignore the poll...
I think I pulled it off! Taking off the eyepatch was easy, but getting that side of the face to match the other was kinda hard. Then doing an eye socket and filling in an eye so it kinda matched the other. That was REALLY hard. You're actually seeing the second attempt. Also, discovered he had this huge bump at the top of his nose, so I had to shave that down.
So am I close????

Wow!!! Very good! Can you change the shape of the face as well? Seems like Murdoc's face is somewhat shorter and rounder. The figure's face is a little longer.
But VERY well done. Where can we buy them? Did you also create a Mac already?
You're right about the face shape! Yeah I can change the face a little bit, but I didn't wanna mess with it too much. Stone's face is a little long, but the shape is so close... I probably won't mess any more with it...the eye thing was nervewracking enough!

LOL...it's a one of a kind. I don't look to open up a factory any time soon! lol...but Murdoc will be my 6th custom figure, if you count the commission paint job I just finished! I've actually got a corner of my office for this stuff now...
Glad you like it Lothy! Just wait till he's done! I can't wait.
