Wow. I voted "Beat to a bloody unconscious mess." MacGyver has always been very good at keeping his emotions in check but this time I think that he would have lost control of them after finding out that this man caused his good friend to be brutally murdered because of his race and nothing more. I don't think that MacGyver would have killed him. However, I could be wrong.

I also think he'd go pretty far and beat the man until he was insensible, but kill him? Uh...it could be possible, but not likely. I could see Jack O'Neill losing it completely and killing him maybe, but not MacGyver. Then again, maybe I just like to think the best of him.
I'm glad this subject was brought up, because I was thinking today about how many times we actually see a gun in MacGyver's hand (excluding the Pilot mistake). The only times he's handled a gun is when he either has amnesia or is nearly pushed to the limit emotionally, as in this episode and Lesson in Evil. Still, I don't think he'd ever go far enough to use one.
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer."
When you watch the look on his face as Ray calls to him and he realizes what he was about to do.. I think he would have beaten him until he ran out of energy, which may have been some time judging my how worked up he was.
So I don't know if he would have killed him.. but I think he was definitely beyond reasonable thought or control at that point.
And if we're being honest.. who wouldn't have liked to see just one relaly good punch landed on Larson?

That reminds me of the scene in "Lesson in Evil" "And this is for Murphy- POW!"
I could see a scene like that with Larsen- and MacGyver giving him a knockout blow. True, anyone could be susceptible to falling to temptation and I have to concede that MacGyver could have fallen into extreme violence with the man and possibly even up to murder- but I don't think he ever would have- with or without Ray there. MacGyver knows "thou shalt not kill" and I think ultimately, his conscience would remind him of that before he ever could go that far.

Wow...this is a tough question, but a really good one. I have to give it more thought, but my initial reaction is that he was really beyond himself and his principles at that point and he would have laid into Larson pretty heavily. But then I think, well, maybe after that first blow (or second...) something would snap and he'd realize what he was doing and was about to do and be horrified. Tough question.

I think if he really snapped and started to attack he might have done a little damage before he realised what he was doing. When you get really angry it’s difficult to think straight. I don’t think MacGyver would have continued on if he’d knocked him to the ground. If he was still fighting back and it was a full on trading blows type fight it might have gone on longer but once the guy was down MacGyver would be done with him. He’d have vented his anger but I doubt he’d beat him to a pulp and he wouldn’t have killed him intentionally. I'd like to think that would be as bad as it went but you do scary see stories in the news about how a fight turned in to one of the parties involved being killed. Fights through anger are risky things. People don’t know until its too late how far they could go when they lose control.

I agree with those who say he would have laid into Larson pretty good, but would have stopped short of doing serious damage. This is the one time we see Mac truly close to losing all self-control, which is why it's such a scary scene (to me, anyway).
I think maybe after hitting Larson a few times, Mac would have realized what he was doing, and would have stopped, horrified and disgusted with himself. But that would have brought up another set of possibilities... how would he have learned to live with himself? Hmmm.... fanfic, anyone??

I think that Mac would have whumped Larson but would have stopped short of intentionally killing the man. If he had used the gun to hit him, he might very well have accidentally killed him.
That was one of the things that made me afraid, the first time I saw the unedited version of this episode. What scared me more what the fact that I WANTED him to do some serious damage to that man... I have a real tolerance problem with bigots.
I doubt Mac would have lost much sleep if he had whaled on Larson, but if he had killed him, he would have never forgiven himself.

Hey Rocky: That was a good one. A real good one ! I mean, it really got me thinking. I put down that he would have beaten him to a bloody mess. But actually, it was a toss up between that and killed him. I mean, we are talking about someone that would bring out the evil in even the most peaceful of us. That being MacGyver . And the level of intensity that showed on his face , I thought he would have killed Larson . But I tried to imagine , since he had Larson's gun in his right hand , and Larson's collar in the other hand, he could have beaten him to a bloody mess , and then killed him . But since you asked only for one answer , I had to say beat him to a bloody mess . And thank God, Ray was there to stop MacGyver. It would not have been a pretty sight to see what MacGyver would have done, next . Sincerely, Katey Mackay

I think he would have stated out pounding him to a bloody pulp and killed him, not intentionally, but accidentally. The look of horror on MacGyver's face when he realizes what he is about to do, communicates just how far out of control he was. He had no control at that point. It took the intervention of Ray to get MacGyver to see what he was doing.

I agree with grrl, that could have been a possibility. Alot of times when people are so out of control, they may not intend to kill a person, but do anyway. I like to think Mac would have severely messed him up, but stopped just short of killing him. I'm with Loth, rascism and bigotry just disgusts me. This has got to be one of the heaviest episodes ever... did we already discuss this somewhere else?

Hey these polls were all mine. Not sure about this one however. But it's a nice way to fill the place up again. It's like rebuilding it.
Anyway, each time I see it, I'm sure if MacGyver wasn't stopped by Ray, he would've used the gun to slug Larson in his face, to avenge Booker's death. Maybe even continued kicking him around. But he surely wouldn't have killed him.
God, I think that would be such a cool avatar. You know the close-up shot they've taken from Mac's face when Ray calls for him and Mac looking behind him.

First he screams: "Noooo!!!!" Ray: "MacGyver!!!!" Than he looks over his shoulder and that's the shot I'm talking about.
The second one!! "Oh why? Why? Why?! Oh, no, no, no, no,!!"
