Bluffing is also lying  Telling a lie is to tell something that is not true. How big a lie takes it to make it a lie? Even irony is a sort of lie

MacGyver was also lying in Twice Stung, Fire and Ice, Black Rhino and Jenny's Chance. So actually pretending you wanna do business with the bad guy, while you just want to capture them, is also lying. So actually MacGyver is a liar?

QUOTE
That kind of says it all, doesn't it?
This is yet another example of lies that must be told to acieve the goal

He didn't lie, he started using drugs to make it believable, so he wouldn't have to say that he was lying.

QUOTE
Oh, yeah. This sounds like an episode I want to see. Could turn out fun

It probably is.

I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver.

Yes.

I don't say MacGyver is perfect, nobody is. I wouldn't even say it is different with MacGyver. It is not. Lying is lying.

I like MacGyver because he doesn't do it so much - and he looks so dang handsome wub.gif wub.gif , better than Jack Bauer.

MacGyver does not take to violence, if he can prevent it. Bauer doesn't even consider other ways.

O’Neill: I don’t know what to do
Carter: You spent seven years on MacGyver, and you can’t figure this one out?
You used to be MacGyver, MacGadget, MacGimmick.
Now, you’re Mr. MacUseless.

Because there is no time for other ways. It's all about time in 24.

Yes, I know. The consecpt of the story is limited to 24 hours. Speed, speed and more speed. Everything, a lot of things, have to take place at the same time.

I don't like these stories.

We don't have time to do the right thing, so lets just do what we want and say its for the greater good.

sound familiar to anyone?

dry.gif

I recall MacGyver being in some tight spots where he had to think fast.. he still found non-lethal methods of achieving his goal.

Target MacGyver took place over about a 16 hour? time frame, and he was being chased by hitmen hell bent on killing him.

Easy Target became time dependent as MacGyver had to stop the EMP from being fired at the city

Theres bound to be other similar episodes too.

I can't enjoy a show which is basically glorifying and justifying the very behavior that we condemn, and go to war to stop, in other countries.

To answer the original question...

MacGyver is better because he used his brain to solve problems. He showed that theres always a solution to a problem which doesn't involve extreme violence.

Jack Bauer's a thug with a badge.

biggrin.gif I just can clearly imagine you saying that. But he doesn't have a badge he's a CTU agent not a cop.

Cops aren't the only ones who have badges

most federal agents have badges... FBI, CIA, DEA, CTU, NSA.. and any other agency which uses field agents I guess.

Obviously they don't always carry them.. like if they undercover, but they are issued with badges of identification

Time was not always available to MacGyver. He ALWAYS managed to get himself into tight spots and he had to find a way to escape in the nick of time. He CHOSE to THINK of a way out instead of SHOOT his way out.

That's why I LOVE MacGyver.

Well he's been working unofficially since the fourth season, so I'm not that surprised. But he maybe he had one in the first and third season.
