Okay, since so many dislikes the ending of the series and the whole Sam thing. I ask you how you would've done it.
If I was to be the writer of the last episode, I for starters would've written a two-parter and maybe involved Murdoc and Jack Dalton in it. Also Nikki Carpenter would've been in it. Of course not forgetting Pete. Them all involved in a big dark plot of Murdoc with MacGyver and Murdoc fighting it out in the end. Just like my stories.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.
MG I didn't mind Sam all that much. Mac was in such a Funk after Harry died. He was all was moping around with a cloud over his head, “I’m the last of my family, Poor me.” Sam was a nice wake up call.
I would have also had Sam get mad at Mac, not for not being there as he grew up Kate did a good job of making sure Sam knew it was her keep them apart. But for having no CLUE that Kate died. That would have me off to no end my own father doesn’t even know mom is dead.
Also I think I would have had Pete retire or cut back on his workload do to the Glaucoma, and had Mac come in and take over/ pick up the slack.
I honestly think an ending where the biggest villain is killed it sssooo over done. It’s almost boring now.

Well, I've already stated my gripes with this episode. I liked "The Stringer" okay really- my only thing is that I wish MacGyver had been married. It wouldn't have been that hard for the writers to make Mac married to Kate and then maybe have Kate go off on assignment and have Sam there, but she was killed by Chung and MacGyver still would never have known about his son or possibly even Kate's death. Everything else would have still fallen in the same way.
More so than the ending of the series, I'd rather look to what a movie reunion (feature length in theaters) could bring.

I would've liked to see all the recurring characters together somehow, too--Nikki, Pete, Jack Dalton, and Murdoc (maybe even some others like Penny)? It would've been a two-parter definitely, with a lot of action and suspense.
The other ending I like, and I think I actually like this one a little bit better, is the Passages idea--Mac fighting for his life, a big cliffhanger that makes it seem like he won't make it--and then, he lives to go on to other adventures (the movies). It just seems to flow better, because as I said before, if his son was suddenly going to be a part of his life, he probably should've been included in at least one of the movies, even if it was a small, walk-on part. That way, it would acknowledge his existence. Since they didn't do that, I didn't feel any continuity between the series finale and the movies. No, a Passages ending would've been much more acceptable, especially since after all that drama, we get a happy, positive ending for our hero (not that the ending of The Stringer is negative--I just don't prefer it).

Hmmm A big adventure, maybe a treasure hunt type. (with or without Jack) and while he's off on it, Pete's death. Keeping with the "not being there" theme of Mac's life and a good explanation why he would leave the Pheonix Foundation.

Mmmm... not for me. Too much like a reunion episode. Too campy for me.

Except they'd have to re-write the entire show and nature of the character.

Why is that so important to you for him having to be married? Come to the 21th century please.

A big adventure ok but not another treasure hunting adventure. That's like taking the easy way out. He's not Indiana Jones, you know. However Pete's death is something that would make sense for him leaving.

No married Mac for me either, it would bring along too much bagage and it wouldn't fit the character.
So women are bagage, eh?

I think a final Murdoc episode would've been the ideal ending for me. Murdoc, Jack, Pete and Mac.
Hmm, sounds like a great idea.
Well like I said the final Murdoc thing. Or either MacGyver on assignment while Pete's dying.

LOL, I'm not saying women are bagage, but if he had been married, he'd obviously divorced after and THAT brings along that bagage.
I like Mac as the single man he is. Not because he gives a lot of women to fantasize about, but the fact he's an "unattached adventurer". I think everybody wishes they were a bit like him.

No. When I get started on a fan fic they are too envolved and detailed and I really don't have the time to do one right.

Well, I agree to some extent--anytime you enter into a serious commitment like marriage, you also risk getting divorced. I watched my parents go through one, and it wasn't pretty. It was at that point that I thought, "No marriage for me." There's just too many details involved, and like Mac, I like to keep life a little less encumbered.

Marriages costs money, divorces costs money. Being attached to someone costs money.

This is exactly how I feel! Can't add anymore.
But MG, alot of people have drooling and crying babies so that when they themselves are drooling and crying in the nursing home, they will have somebody to look after them! Kidding!
I think the final episode should have centered around Pete resigning(or being fired) from the Foundation because of his eyesight and MacGyver helping him deal with it.
I think this would allow a lot of loose ends to by tied up (if written correctly)
They could have done some looking back on old adventures, some sorting out of stuff, working out whats gonna happen in the future, and ended with MacGyver and Pete heading off on a fishing trip together.. into the sunset.. best friends for ever.

A final Murdoc episode would be awesome, and at the end Sam about to shoot him, and Mac tells him not to, etc. And I would have been disappointed if Pete had been killed at the end. That would be, well, inhumane to a lot of the fans.

I'm with you on that one, MG! I don't want kids, and I'm not even sure if I want to get married. Like MC, I also watched my parents divorce, and it wasn't pretty to watch... it never is.
Hmm... let's see. I would have liked to see a two-part eppy for the ending, with Pete, Nikki, Jack, and Murdoc. Murdoc finally either gets caught or killed for real, Pete retires, and... what to do with Nikki and Jack? Have to give that one some more thought. I liked having Sam show up, but I sort of wish they'd introduced him a few eppys earlier. Maybe they could still have Mac and Sam take off at the end, for a little "catch-up" time, but then they could have at least brought Sam and Pete back for the movies.

I wonder if Nikki had replaced Pete in season 7, if the fresh dynamic between the characters might have kept the show going longer.
Obviously MacGyver would have had to come back to doing more phoenix work and interact with Nikki in the way he did with Pete in the mid-seasons episodes. Pete could have kept up the bit part appearances as Macs friend, but also in helping Nikki take over the top position.

I agree. They could've done it like that, yet still keep everything else the same. I mean hey, it's not like it would've hurt the plot any! I liked Sam and that the series ended with MacGyver having some REAL family, but I second this. After all, MacGyver said he'd heard rumors of her death (not exact words) but he still could've married before she'd gone on assignment and he wouldn't have known about Sam.
