I remember reading comments at various times in here about Pete and Nikki's apartments being the same.
So I decided to do a graphic comparison after watching both these episodes last night.
Its obvious that they've used the same set, but only because of the archways (and maybe wall color) apart from those two things, I think the apartments are sufficiently different to be distenctive.
Anyway below are screen shots of the 2 apartments for comparison.

They look architecturally similar, but have very different interior decorators. Pete's apartment looks like a bachelor pad, except for the healthy green fern on the coffee table. Unless..........its a plastic plant.
My husband had a plant in his apartment when I met him, the only time it got watered was when I went over there.

Those screenshots I assume would be from "Early Retirement" (for Pete's apartment) and "Blow Out" (for Nikki's apartment). And seeing as how I don't think either place was even seen more than once (but correct me if I'm wrong ), I'd say they're sufficiently different enough not to be confused for each other.
Who knows? Maybe Pete and Nikki live in the same apartment complex and so ALL the apartments look a little similar!

Definitely a the same set, and, at first, I couldn't see much difference. But the more I stare at the pics, the more differences I can find. The different door colours (white vs chocolate brown) do 'individualize' each apartment.
Good job with the screen caps!

What say you?
It's been bugging me since the first time I saw Blow Out and Early Retirement. With exception of the door and carpets it does look alike. I just figured they happened to live in the same building.

Maybe it's a Phoenix owned building, with discounts for employees? Or, since Pete is so high up in the organization, his place is a job perk?

No wonder Mac lives on a houseboat.
Those apartments aren't my cup of tea either, but they seem 'right' for high-level Phoenix employees who might have to entertain clients.

Well, I can see how MacGyver and Nikki probably wouldn't care to live in the same building But Pete and MacGyver are best friends! They probably wouldn't mind being in the same building. Though they seemed to have a bit of "The Odd Couple" chemistry going on in "Out in the Cold" (kinda ironic there's another episode named with an obvious tribute to the show- "The Odd Triple")

Well, actually, I meant who would want to live in the same building with all their co-workers?
Exactly why that idea isn't my cup of tea.

For everyone who thought Pete and Nikki lived in the same building... See below.
Okay... devil's advocate here... just because they took two different exterior shots, doesn't mean the apartment isn't the same, just redressed.
I second that.

But it would mean that the two apartments aren't in the same building.
Than I don't second that.

It's strange that they (location/Prop people/set decorators?) would use the same set or apartments for both Nikki and Pete - especially since the episodes in question - Blowout and Early Retirement are in the same story arc (Nikki) and follow each other closely. I suppose if one were to watch them as a group, it's easy to spot the similarities in the apartments. I did early on, but knowing about budgets and such, I didn't think anything of it, I figured, OK - they used the same set and re-dressed it.
I don't think that when the episodes were filmed, the directors and camerapeople and producers realized just how much attention the fans would be paying to details like this - 20 years down the road. But, it is fun to find stuff like this!
That which has been established will endure even with time and at a distance.
I can't tell you anything about what happens after the cameras go off, mostly because I'm usually unconscious by then.
