Is watching MacGyver like going home to you?

Is it like your favorite piece of really comfortable old clothing?

You just feel so relaxed and at ease. You know the characters as if they are your best friends, you know their surroundings as if you live there yourself.

No matter what else is going on in your life, you know you can go back to MacGyver, suspend reality for a while and be completely drawn in to his world.

Yes, yes!!! That's exactly how I feel!! If I've had a really bad day and I'm feeling down, I can pop in one of my MacGyver DVDs and ESCAPE!!! Inexpensive therapy for me!

People seemed so innocent back then. The technology boom was just starting back then, and people actually communicated - in person or over a land-line phone (no text messaging). I guess September 11, 2001 changed the worldview for alot of us. I used to think that if I tried real hard I could be like Mac forever - actually I still do - but it seems a bit odd to most people. But the world didn't stand still and Mac and his time got left behind. Sad. So when I need a refresher course on how to deal with the world, I retreat into my DVD's - my personal time machine... and take a breather from today and go back to those simplier times.

Well, usually I am home when I'm watching MacGyver, so I'd say yes.

But yeah- I know what you mean. I've just now been watching an episode or two from different MacGyver DVDs- and I can immediately fall right into it. It actually has been a while since I've been regularly watching MacGyver- so it is nice to have all the seasons on DVD to put in whenever I feel like it. And MacGyver is still my all time favorite TV show- it's so much better than the stuff on today. There are very few shows on current network television that I enjoy enough to really follow- so I stick with watching MacGyver and other classic TV on DVD and VHS.

I think about it a lot and look forward to watching it, especially on the weekends. I usually have at least one day where I do a MacGyver marathon, and yeah--I just get sucked in and forget about the real world for awhile. It's a great feeling.

YES! It's the universe I grew up and a reminder of gentler and happier times. Watching the show gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

Not sure I can completely pull of the whole "I reminisce of those days long past..." thing, since it was started before I was born...

That doesn't really matter. It started in 1985 and I was born in 1986. The first episode in Belgium was in 1990. While looking back I can feel like I'm 4 or 5 years again. Mainly because in 1990 the first commercial broadcasting studios were started back than in Belgium and everything was "American". Fashion was like in "Dallas" and "Dynasty". The 80's and 90's, they will never come back. Those were the days where in at least in Belgium there were no commercial breaks during series and only once per film.

That's exactly what it is and how I feel when watching. In my early teens 14-16, I watched nearly every single day of the year. Just to escape the horrific reality I lived in then and it was a big relief that I could count on Mac back than. Back than it was like it only costed two months or so for me to fully watch the series. Now with getting older I can be much longer without him. Main reasons, gotta spare my tapes and tv-set, little bit. Thank god for the dvd's.

That's what I liked as well, the beginning of technology. In all those early episodes you got of this big devices with lights flashing on and off in several directions. If you look at the Pilot, The Human Factor and Phoenix under Siege. I always wonder what's the purpose of these lights? Or of these screens with a green laser on that goes up and down.

Yeah, absolutely. This happens from time to time I guess. It's like they say times change. I mean the world was a lot different after World War II, than before it.

Hey, Gilligan's Island is a classic and I'll happily watch that over most anything on TV today.
And by the way, they do actually get off the island in the 1978 TV-movie "Rescue from Gilligan's Island"- I remember watching this a time or two as a kid. It was a fun movie.

Of course, I grew up watching Gilligan's Island, and yeah, I did wonder if they would ever get off the island. But what would be the point? Then the show would be over. It's much more fun watching Gilligan botch (unintentionally, of course) every attempt! Or seeing the Harlem Globetrotters come to visit!

(Along with the cool "new" shows of the 1980s, I also grew up with a lot of 1960s reruns- but they were all obviously "new" to me- and cool!)
But yeah- I literally grew up watching MacGyver as a child and that's still my all time favorite show.
And I can wax nostalgic about that!

They still use these lights in the backgrounds of "Stargate", and I still wonder what the purpose of these is

I also like when someone is starting some machine and has to click twenty flip switches. click-click-click-click... Would it not be easier, just to click one that starts the whole machine at once?

When I discovered that there was a man with the name MacGyver I already was sixteen so I can't say anything about feeling like a child again either.

All I do know is that at the end of each episode I sat grinning like mad at the couch and had at least for a few minutes the impression that the world is not as bad as we all like to think. As long as there are people like Mac.

Watching MacGyver definitly takes me back when I was around 10 years old and I would watch it with my dad. Thats what I love about my two favorite shows MacGyver and Knightrider, They take you back to a time when the world was so innocent, people would say hello to you while passing you on the street ect. I know that time is gone now but it does definitly give me a feeling of comfort when I watch every ep. I agree that it's nice to be able to pop in the dvd's whenever and escape to a place I like to call macgyverworld. Every character has their own personlality and after watching the show for so long it seems like if every actor on the screen is a part of a family that I belong in.

Watching MacGyver definitely takes me back to my younger days. I graduated from High school in '81 and was working my first "real" job when Mac aired. I thought it was a cool show because you have this great (and great looking) guy doing all these techno geek things and making science and cheistry totally cool. Since I was working in a technical field I could really relate. I quit that job and moved to Wisconsin to study environmental science in 1990, about the same time MacGyver was dealing more with social issues and less with save the world assigned missions. Again I found something I could strongly relate to.

Now watching MacGyver is a favorite past time. I usually curl up with an episode on Thursday nights, especially after my son goes to bed and when my husband is working night shift. Its a great way for me to relax and de-stress after a busy work week. I have been spending many weekends these last 3 months watching MacGyver late into the night while I weave chain.

For me MacGyver is as familiar as my favorite pair of well worn Levis.

Watching MacGyver is a favourite pastime of mine. It puts me into a more relaxed and happier frame of mind (although if anyone dares to call me while I'm watching it - they had better be ready for some snarls).

As I submerge my self into the world of MacGyver ... strangely enough I feel a sense of belonging.

Exactly!! It's like going back in time to a comfortable place where everything and everyone was where they should be. AND, I was so young!!
