Heres an interesting little project for a raining day.

Using Google Earth type in some of the locations from our locations page to get detailed map and close up satellite imagery of the filming location and area. (you can zoom in and out and drag the maps and images around to see what you like)

Theres below 2 pictures are examples of the kinds of views you get with Google earth. If you haven't seen it or downloaded it yet (it's free from Google) it's a great tool and toy and great fun flying all over the world looking at things. it works best with high speed.. but is exceptable with dial up if you willing to wait for a couple of minutes for the images to load.

Yeah, google earth is fun. The detail and age of the images for the area I live in is disappointing (windows live local is a bit more up to date and more detailed for my area) but I know the area so don’t need to explore it from the air .
I just wonder how up to date it is in other areas.

Google earth is cool. We use it to "visit" my mom and dad on the east coast and see what's up with their place. Also use it to do a little virtual world travelling. Hey Rock, if I had your address, I could pay you a visit!

It's interesting that areas which have very high resolution images all seem to be places which could and probably are, of interest to the CIA. Probably makes sense since the images are acquired via the keyhole satellite system.

Its also interesting to note that a lot of the images I've looked at are quite old.. for example Washington DC shows the "new" war memorial (at the end of the reflection pond) as being under construction.. but I personally walked around the completed memorial about 2 years ago.. so I know thats an old photo.

Wasn't it also in the news that they still have the image from New Orleans BEFORE the hurricane?

A couple years ago when they first launched google earth I spent all day with people coming in to my office to and giving me street addresses etc of places they had lived as children.

A number of people actually grew up in other countries.. so they where interested to see what their home towns etc looked like, and being that the system was new.. the images at that stage where up to date.

I would assume the use of old images would have something to do with US national security.

And here I thought they were live images.........
